Sarfraz the man behind the madness that is the Pakistani team.

Up until a week ago, he was the most hated man in pakistan which the infamous yawning photo becoming a meme all over.

I’ve been following the career of sarfraz since the time that he was the u19 captain leading us to that famous win against India due to the magical spell from Anwar ali. He is a leader by nature but one that is not as vocal or defying as the famous PM Imran Khan who led us to the glory of the 1992 World Cup win.

Sarfraz received a lot of backlash after that India team at Old Trafford but he isn’t really to blame. When the board and so called legends all over are criticizing sarfraz for being so vocal, yelling at players even though that’s been the formula which has worked, he is bound to get under pressure. The infamous “abey kalay” episode didn’t help matters as well.

As you all may have noticed, the shouting from behind the stumps, the yelling to the outfielders, the constant advice to the young bowlers had stopped and it was leading our team to nowhere. Against India, there was no excitement when a wicket was taken, no yelling at the bowlers from behind the stumps, no chit chat with seniors and that was the reason behind this loss.

Right after that match sarfraz was the target of many and one incident where the hatred for sarfraz went overboard was on the Friday before the SA match where a stupid fan name called sarfraz while he was with his son. Sarfraz surprisingly handled it really well and had it been any other person, that fan would’ve gotten a punch in their face.

This incident definitely shook sarfraz and I’m sure he did a lot of soul searching and this was visible in the next match against SA where sarfraz was back to his normal ways and being vocal behind the stumps. He Became the father figure for babar, imam and shadab. This reflected in the 3 wickets by shadab in the middle overs which was missing during the 12 game losing streak.

Onwards to the NZ game, the catch by Sarfraz diving to his right full stretch to get Ross Taylor exhibited that the confidence in Sarfraz as captain and the leader of this young pakistan team is back. He made brave decisions, keep the field placings aggressive, gambled with shaheen for a 7 over spell which he would not have done earlier in the tournament and in the end all these decisions resulted in the comprehensive win against the undefeated New Zealand team.

The scene where sarfraz is asking the crowd to cheer for babar during the walk back after winning showed what this 32 year man is to this team. He may not be Imran Khan but he is someone whose leadership skills has gotten these boys to perform out of their skins and gotten them on the cusp of qualifying for the semi finals of the World Cup, a prospect which looked dead after the defeat against India.

It’s a request that back this captain of yours, he is the best captain that we have had since Imran. He gets respect from these players, I’m an eye witness to this. Our media blows everything out of proportion and when we win all is well but one loss and all hell breaks loose.

The man has won an u19 World Cup, champions trophy, psl finalist 3 times, psl champion 2019, and these championships were no fluke. It was the leadership of sarfraz which got the teams through the final hurdle.

Let’s all back him up please!

Sarfaraz has frailties and no one is perfect. He's done a good job with the team but to praise him to hide his problems would also be wrong.

criticism should come after the world cup, not during, their are fans who get worked up and react based on this forum.
