Sarfaraz Ahmed's performance watch after international comeback in 2022

Absurd dismissal!

A T20 shot when you're behind the RR. Ultimately at a deficit

Pathetic way to get out after being well set at 50.

All he wanted was a personal milestone.

Calm down man. I know it hurts.

Do you now see why I have always maintained, “Rizwan fans are not Pakistan fans”. You are validating my claim

Wow.

First match in almost five years, comeback and nerves, he delivers two pretty decent knocks.

And all you can find are negativities.

We’ve got no one better right now, specially in Test format.

A bit of a loose Test performance by Sarfaraz so far if I’m honest

Props for batting well considering Rizwan was dropped due to poor batting form

But I still feel Sarfaraz just didn’t have the time or mental preparation to transit from Domestic cricket playing conditions into Test match cricket.

-Very lethargic with his keeping
-Fitness lacking, hobbling after every dive
-completely unaware/not picking up faint edges behind the stumps

Also, I would put this down to a clear lack of intensity by himself because he is very much restrained in his attitude and natural aggression. The guy just needs to be himself if you actually want him to keep properly

I really don’t understand the hate for Sarfraz. Every mistake, every yawn, every bit of chirping winds people up. Why?

The guy has come back after 3 years where he showed no bitterness or arrogance at being the drinks boy. He’s come back and taught a lesson to the specialist batsmen how to bat, yes he’s made mistakes, so has every Pakistan player in this match.

Our brilliant skipper “best across all formats zzzz” can’t even play the googly.

Our English speaking saviour can barely hit double figures.

Our bowlers can’t take wickets

Yet it’s all Sarfraz’ fault.

The severe criticism can only be down to personal or some other type of hatred.

I agree, he has been subdued. He needs to be that snarling keeper that he was. But if he did that and was successful you’ll still have his critics complaining “oh he’s done well but I can’t stand his jahil vocals and the way he treats his players” etc etc.

If Sarfaraz is being a savage to his bowlers, he knows himself that he can’t let them down if they produce the opportunities for him behind the stumps at least. He would look like and absolute fool if he drops a catch or misses a stumping after continuously pushing a bowler in order to set intensity levels

Number of runs we conceded due to the drops outweigh the runs he scored. Please consider all facets of performance and not just the ones that suit your agenda

Keeper dropping catches and missing stumping are mistakes that are scrutinized way more than any other. That’s just how the game works - you should know that. They are not comparable to a batsman not scoring runs or bowlers not taking wickets - taking catches and making stumpings from the WK are a default. Can’t brush them under the carpet.

If you’re a team that are relying on a keeper taking a crucial catch or stumping to get a result, then I’m sorry you’re not good enough.

You’re bowlers should be good enough to create more chances. We’ve always had butter finger keepers.

Should the keeper be criticised for his mistakes - of course he should. But the amount vitriol here is very biased. I very much doubt the same standards would not be applied if Rizwan or any other keeper made the same mistakes.

Rizwan made a lot of blunders in the Asia Cup and T20 WC - that was nicely brushed under the carpet.

Sarfaraz has played really well & deserves at least two more series. End of story.

Not a great keeping but will give him benefit of doubt as he is playing after 3 years . Let’s see in next game . But scoring two quality innings deserve credit . Massive pressure but he delivered .

Exactly

Pakistan knew what they were getting with his keeping. They needed a keeper who can bat and Sarfaraz clearly can bat.

What a fighter..always admired him for his street fighting style..and he showed it again this test..would be great if we could get more out of him in the few tests we get..

Like Rizzy too and would be interesting if we could have him as a batter with sarfi too..hopefully we can groom a third wicketkeeper now too..

Absolutely, his detractors are ready to pounce on the slightest mistake. Dude breaks wind during the game, the hawks will be all over him.

Yeah, he's never been a mental midget like the rest.

This is bad news for Pakistan as Sarfaraz has booked his spot for the next 2 series

I don’t care how well he bats if his keeping mistakes end up more costly. Nevertheless Rizwan needed the wake up call, and at his age Sarfraz is a very temporary replacement.

The Williamson mistake was just one of those things. Some errors in cricket are costly, some are less so. Every good cricketer has dropped a few clangers over the years. Sarfaraz had a pretty good Test with the bat.

Did you see his keeping? The runs mean zilch when you are a poor keeper.

These days you need a batsman who can keep. Sarfaraz has played a couple of good innings, it wokld be hard to drop him especially in Karachi which is his backyard. Long term Rizwan is still the better option, still has a higher batting avg and is fitter.

Wonderful comeback.

In the second innings when everyone was pitty pattying and scratching around, he came and gave some impetus to the innings to get us to a lead. Without his innings we would have probably lost by an innings

First match after years. Mistakes can happen.

After very vital two innings that helped immensely in saving this match, he deserves at least 3 Test series.

Even without that, anyone making a comeback deserves some chances.

Glad to see Sarfaraz back! 10/10 for his batting efforts in the first test. Just play him as a batsman only going forward.

Apparently the only Pak player to practice today as per media reports

A huge favour he is doing to us all. Something he should have been doing ahead of the call for the first test.

How do you know he was not, nothing replaces playing the actual international matches to be in top shape?

All wicket videos are in the threads of the bowlers or in Match Thread

Terrible performance today. Didn’t hear 2 nicks, one off a spinner, in an empty ground.

This, coupled with untidy keeping and dropped catches, can end up costing the team far more than his batting can help.

He shouldn’t be behind the stumps.

This inability to hear nicks is a real problem. He’s missed plenty in two tests alone, on pitches where taking wickets is near impossible without hard of hearing keepers. I agree that regardless of runs scored, if he can’t hear clear nicks etc, he is a liability which we cannot afford.

PCB should pay for Sarfaraz to get some hearing aids so he can start to hear these nicks.

Good catch by Sarfaraz (Rana Khush hua!)

Beautiful ball by Naseem btw

Ok, he didn't hear a couple of nicks - not ideal, but it happens.

Had a good tidy day behind the stumps with an excellent catch off naseem of Williamson of all people.

He better be careful, he might pass wind and that will be another excuse for this critics.

Tidy catch that.

Should boost his confidence behind the stumps.

Seems to be getting back into the flow of things. Smart stumping by Sarfraz.

Excellent stumping.

Rizwan now needs to be kept away from Tests, until Sarfraz starts failing again.

Solid batting from Sarfaraz - now needs to help Saud take us to safety

This is what we’ve been missing - I remember even in the Misbah dour days, when everyone was tuk tuking their life away, sarfraz would come in and get the board ticking and give the innings some impetus.

Sarfaraz in Asia is a top batsman. Outside Asia he can be a weakness with the bat . But atm Pak can't be choosers.

Solid knock by Sarfaraz.....he should be the first choice keeper in Asia for now.

Outside Asia Pakistan may have to look at others, if Sarfaraz fails.

Nice array of shots from Sarf

Could have got a ton in all 3 innings tbf

Let me ask the most objective main eventer on PP the latest on Sir Fraz Rana - How is your GOAT doing in this Test with his keeping ?

Or do they need to drop Shan, bring in Ris, give him the gloves and let Sir Fraz play as a specialist batter

Sir Fraz when in good knick is like gold dust down the order especially in asia, you need a keeper who can score briskly but unfortunately age is not on his side and his keeping ability lacks consistency

PCB at its best for destroying players career, Sarfraz left them egg faced

I’ve said this a few times here,

Sarfaraz’s keeping isn’t ideal, but he was brought in to replace Rizwan who seems out of his depth at this level with the bat. Rizwan’s poor form and inability to understand game situations with the bat were critical to Pakistan’s 3-0 embarrassment at home. Sarfaraz’s form with the bat and his ability to actually play all around the wicket has been an undeniable huge improvement to Pakistan’s batting in general

Let’s just say Ramiz wasn’t sacked, and the new regime didn’t step in with team selection, and Babar continued to back his bestie Rizwan as the keeper/bat just like he has been doing with Shan….I can almost guarantee you that even on these roads Rizwan would have continued to struggle with the bat and handed the momentum to NZ to take the lower order wickets. Just like Shan is unable to find a way out of his slump.

When you ask the question of whether both (Riz-Sarf) should play whilst Shan is dropped, I will continue to maintain that Kamran Ghulam is the batsman who should be preferred over both Rizwan and Sarfaraz the one batsman who isn’t keeping wickets. Why play either Sarfaraz or Rizwan as a batsman purely? You already have Salman Agha filling in the 35-40 batting average specialist batsman slot. Why drop Asad Shafique in the first place if that’s the path you wanted to take? Pakistan will always feel like they are a proper batsman short if both Rizwan and Sarfaraz play with one of them as the specialist batsman

So I think it is the bullet we must bite with Sarfaraz’s keeping because let’s be honest, he is the far superior Batsman to Rizwan.

Rizwan’s best shot now is to maybe target Abdullah Shafique’s spot which will soon be under scrutiny considering the guy has hit a brick wall recently with his progression. That too will also be unfair to many of those domestic openers who have been putting in the hard work against the new ball.

Decent but not good enough. Needed more from him in this match

He has been the difference maker. If he wasn't in the XI, Pakistan would have lost at least 1 of these 2 matches.

PCB at its best for destroying players career, Sarfraz left them egg faced

Sarfraz being a captain destroyed his own career. He looks more free and relaxed when he is not the captain.

Sarfraz's batting average is 42.70 when he is not captaining and as a captain he averages 25.81

3 years pointlessly wasted of this guy

Also about 3 dozen dropped catches, 2 dozen missed stumpings & 6 yawns were also avoided during this period. Sodhi can also bat competently on these roads.

Well, why couldn’t Rizwan?
