KOTA: A case of sedition and defamation against former diplomat-turned-politician Mani Shankar Aiyar was filed in the court of additional chief judicial magistrate (ACJM) in Kota on Thursday. The court has fixed the case’s hearing on February 20.
BJP’s Kota district OBC wing head Ashok Chaudhary filed the case under IPC Sections 124 (A), 500 and 504 against Aiyar for expressing love and praise for Pakistan and insulting India at the 9th Karachi Literature Festival.

Chaudhary was in the limelight for his recent letter to BJP president Amit Shah to demand replacement of chief minister Vasundhara Raje and party state president Ashok Parnami blaming the duo for BJP’s humiliating defeat in the bypolls.

In the case against Aiyar, Chaudhary has claimed that at a function in Pakistan’s Karachi the suspended Congress leader said he loved Pakistan and the Pakistanis loved him back but in India he received same quantum of hatred. Chaudhary further claimed that Aiyar insulted India by saying that the country was not interested in resolving issues with Pakistan through dialogue.

The statements in favour of Pakistan have deeply hurt my patriotism and passionate sentiments for my country,” Chaudhary said in the petition to the court. The petitioner added that Aiyar’s statements have come at a time when Pakistan supported terrorists were carrying out attacks on Indian Army and Indian leaders were making best efforts to expose Pakistan for supporting terrorism

Saying I love Pakistan is a crime in India?

Being beghairat is not a crime, but such people don't deserve any respect. I feel like puking when I read comments on Pakistani videos starting with "I am indian but.." only to get likes from Pakistanis.

It is not a crime but it won't get you many fans, given the history between the two countries.

I doubt the Pakistani public will be any more tolerant if a senior Pakistani politician visits to India and professes his love for the country publicly.

Mani Shankar is an imperialist, arrogant nutcase, whom no one gives a damn for. Even his own party has expelled him.

Once he was snubbed by Jayalalitha. She had donated an elephant to a temple and he said "She has donated an elephant to the temple. I will donate her".:)

She then said"If he has guts let him make the statement again". Mani Shankar didnt reply to that.

You will certainly be seen as a 'traitor' by everyone. No point in me lying, you will be abused and humiliated, might even be beaten up by a few. An Indian doesn't have the liberty to love both his motherland and Pakistan at the same time. But at the same time you have the liberty to like and publicly appreciate famous Pakistani people/celebrities. A lot of Pakistani cricketers from the past has had quite a big fan following among us in the past. But you can't be supporting the Pakistan cricket team though, that's a taboo. Mohammad Ali Jinnah is someone who has fascinated a lot of Indian people including me and my father. He is seen by a lot of us as a great personality and a very meritorious man.

So much for being the world's largest democracy ehh!? Typical Indian hypocrisy when they claim wanting peace with the neighbour but can't tolerate it's politician saying anything positive about them. Never mind Mani, any debate on Muslim's in India always ends up in bashing our Quaid Jinnah!!

Being a democracy does not mean there can be no taboo in the country. I don't think it's fair to blame the people for it either, it's just the way things work here. It has always been like that here and it's simply impossible for anyone to change it. You'll have to live in India to truly realize what I mean to say. Not even the NRI's will be able to realize it.

People must be praised for it. I don't respect Pakistanis who come and say I love India. being an enemy is fine, but being beghairat is not. Traitors like mani shankar deserve the ridicule they get.

I'll be honest and admit here, I have no warm feelings towards Pakistan, but at the same time I do not wish ill upon them. It's not like I want them to progress leaps and bounds, neither do I want them to suffer. I certainly don't wish for the ill of average Pakistani people, they have done no harm to me or my loved ones. I have no love for them, but it would be inappropiate for anyone to say I hate them. I seriously don't.

Of course we're arch rival in sports, and that's one area I'll never wish well upon them. I have never and will never enjoy watching them win cricket matches, even against opponents other than India. I'll always want them to lose. But then again I'm not someone who would wish their cricketers to be involved in scandals, and for the game of cricket to suffer. I'm all for the return of international cricket in Pakistan, provided adequate security is provided. Nor would I wish things to go wrong if some foreign team visits them in the future. That's not who I am. No point in lying or being a hypocrite.

Difficult to praise anything Pakistani in India these days. Nut jobs such as Chaudhary everywhere.

Doesn’t matter Mani Shankar is a big leader he can even get away with murder FIR’s like these against such huge leaders are just publicity gimmicks..

Mani Shankar a big leader? Since when?

No one cares for him.

If he gets pulled up for sedition or whatever, he is going to face the music.

He’s a national level congress leader not some local party worker.. The courts case will go on, investigation will go on but ultimately nothing will happen..

Big leader doesn’t always have to mean Modi or Sonia Gandhi level..

Congress is busy distancing themselves from him.

He is suspended from the Congress party last december for calling Modi a "neech aadmi". He is not that big leader anymore.

Mani Shankar lost all his credibility and whatever little respect he had ever since he lost his Myladhuturai LS seat in 2009. This was when there was a Congress wave in the country.

Then there was the Hansraj College incident, followed by the 'Modi Chaiwala' incident, and now this.

He has been the National Clown and unofficial persona non grata for quite sometime now.

I’m always skeptical about political leaders being put behind bars for crimes they commit.. Until he is sent to jail till then I will believe he will get away..

At the end of the day every political party has dirt on each other, and no political party goes full fledged against others in regards to corruption and other matters..

Let’s see what happens in this case I have very little hope but hopefully I am proven wrong.
