"Selection policy should be performance-based & not about a ‘like & dislike’ culture" : Kamran Akmal

The guy gets way too much hate.

He wants to play domestic cricket, and people slag him off.

If a player refuses to play domestic cricket, they get slagged off.

There’s no winning with our toxic fan base.

The problem is the entitlement he has. He's been unfit forever, and in his absence, the team has put an improbable run together to amazingly get into the QEA final. However, when he gets fit, he 'expects' to walk into the team based on what? Seniority?

And when the coach decides that that's not happening, his first port of call is to go cry to the senior PCB management. He's clearly still used to that old culture where if you disrespect the chain of command and just go to your connections, it'll work for you.

When rightfully, both Wasim Khan and Nadeem Khan correctly stay out of the matter, he then completely throws his toys out of the pram and goes and crys to the media. That's a terrible attitude and an incredible level of entitlement. That's why he gets the hate.

The correct attitude would have been to be in the nets and get ready for the Pakistan Cup. However, he's now decided to go cry to the media and in effect damage his relationship with the coach, who by all accounts is doing a good job in selecting a team based on merit.

The Akmals unfortunately are an example of how not to behave professionally. I personally try not to hate on anybody, but have zero tolerance for arrogance

Yeah, I do agree with what you’re saying.

Adnan Akmal seems to be the only mature one in the family.

Very well said ....

LAHORE: Former Test wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal on Saturday expressed his dejection over the response he received from his team Central Punjab’s coach and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final.

Talking to media here, the 38-year-old Kamran claimed that despite having recovered from injury, Central Punjab coach Shahid Anwar did not recall him for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, which was currently in progress Karachi.

The veteran wicket-keeper/batsman suffered a shoulder injury in November 2020 and was subsequently dropped from CP team. He featured in his last Quaid-e-Azam Trophy match from Nov 6-9 against Balochistan at Karachi.

However Kamran, who represented Pakistan in 53 Tests, 157 ODIs and 58 Twenty20 Internationals, said he had recovered from the injury and was fully fit to play for Central Punjab in the Quaid Trophy final but lamented that the team’s coach did not give him due recognition.

“Being the senior most player of the team I deserve [due] respect from my coach to recall me for the final, as I am fit,” a dejected-looking Kamran said.

“I conveyed my grievances to PCB chief executive Wasim Khan and director National High-Performance Centre Nadeem Khan a couple of days ago. However, I have not received any response [from them] so far.

“Look, I left my cricket assignments abroad just for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. Now when I receive this sort of attitude from my coach it certainly causes dejection,” Kamran, who last represented Pakistan in 2017 in an ODI against West Indies at Providence, regretted.

To a question on whether if he would be ready to play for Central Punjab in the Pakistan Cup One-day starting in Karachi from Jan 8, Kamran said he had not thought about it yet.

“I have informed the PCB high-ups about the attitude of the coach. Firstly, let’s see what the PCB does to my complaint,” Kamran said.

Does this he ever stop moaning, retire and play some T20 cricket and get a nest egg together because your career will soon be over.

Unfair. He is still one of the best openers in Domestic.

Isn't he picked for the second eleven team as well? I remember Salman Butt getting picked in the second eleven last year.

He should have been dumped for good after that Sydney test. Yet 10 years on he’s still trying to get back into the national team. Umar and Kamran are a burden to Pakistani cricket.

Hafeez better leave after the world cup. what's wrong with these players trying to play past their peak years? atleast with hafeez he is still productive but Akmal is a lost cause I could probably keep better than him tbh.

Kamran Akmal withdraws from PSL 7 after being demoted to Gold category from Platinum:

On his YT channel:

“Please release me because I don’t deserve to play in this category"

“The lower categories are better suited for youngsters. I don’t want their [Peshawar Zalmi] sympathy just because I have played for them in the past six seasons.”

“As far as the category is concerned, I was not happy when it was initially announced. I was very surprised to see my category demotion from Platinum to Gold despite my good track record"

“I have loved playing for Peshawar Zalmi. They have great management and bunch of players"

I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw a keeper drop a catch that came straight to them.

I really do wonder what goes through his head when he drops these easy catches.

In his defence …
No nothing.

Worst player in our history. Worst thing to happen to Pakistan cricket, more than spot fixing.

Worst keeper in Pakistan history.

He’s probably one of our best T20i openers ever.

Just the worst keeper? Let’s ignore his terrible keeping.

Name a batsman who had a worse record despite being given consistent chances in the longer formats. T20s have not been around long enough but he’s certainly not one of the best.

The worst keeper to exist on this planet earth.

Maybe not T20i’s, but he was pretty consistent in the PSL for some seasons, with 3 centuries.

Probably the best player to play the cut shot for Pakistan.

If this guy is playing Veterans cup why on earth are psl franchises wasting a slot to groom a young talent. The standard hes showing is shameful

Former Pakistan Cricketer Kamran Akmal Recalls Heated Exchange With Gautam Gambhir

Former Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal called former India opener Gautam Gambhir a "good person" and also explained that the pair dont share any rivalry.

Known for being vocal during his playing career, Kamran Akmal opened up on his heated exchange with Gautam Gambhir during Pakistan's 2010 Asia Cup clash against India. The 40-year-old explained that the duo don't share any form of rivalry and the altercation was due to a "misunderstanding". The former wicketkeeper-batter also went on to add that the former India opener is "is a good person and a good cricketer too".

Speaking on Legends League Cricket's (LLC) Instagram handle, Akmal was asked with whom did he share a bigger rivalry; Gambhir or Harbhajan Singh.

"I don't think I have any rivalry with both of them. It happened due to misunderstanding. It happened. I had a misunderstanding with Gautam in Asia Cup. He is a good person and a good cricketer too. We have played together with A team. So, there is no rivalry. Seriously, there is nothing", he said.

India had gone on to win the match by three wickets. Gambhir also top-scored for his side with a knock of 83 runs. India eventually won the trophy, defeating Sri Lanka in the final by 81 runs.

Kamran Akmal also stated that he doesn't have any rivalry with pacer Ishant Sharma either.

"Even with Ishant Sharma, I don't have any rivalry. Whatever happened in Bengaluru", he added.

The incident with Ishant occurred during a T20 match in Bengaluru during the 2012-13 season.

Akmal represented Pakistan in 53 Tests and 157 ODIs, registering 2,648 and 3,236 runs respectively. He also played in 58 T20Is, scoring 987 runs.

Former Pakistani wicket-keeper batter, Kamran Akmal has criticized the team’s recent performance against Australia in the home series and has said that the visitors defeated Pakistan with a weak team.

While criticizing Pakistan’s defensive approach throughout the series, the former right-handed batter said that the goals you set for yourself only help if you win the match and score 100s in different formats.

“When you play to keep protecting yourself, whether it’s Babar or anyone else, I don’t think it will help. You won’t be among the greats, and your cricket won’t go up,” he added.

Australia recently played a full series in Pakistan after 24 years where the hosts won the ODI series by 2-1 while the visitors claimed the Test series by 1-0 along with the one-off T20 match last week.

Kamran Akmal further said that it was fear and playing selfishly that forced Pakistan to lose the Test leg of the series while they played even worse in the T20 match.

Akmal had also criticized Pakistan when they lost the Test series and said that the team was afraid of defeat and they need to change their defensive attitude if they want to succeed against the high-flying Australian team.

It is pertinent to mention that Babar-led Pakistan was appreciated in the cricket fraternity for their magnificent performance. Pakistan’s batters made several national and international records and defeated Australia in an ODI series after two decades.

Although I agree with this, perhaps for KA an exception can be made…

Can someone plz ban this match fixer clown from speaking.

"Selection policy should be performance-based & not about a ‘like & dislike’ culture" - I am a non-believer of this statement. Performance alone should not warrant you a place on the national team.

I rather play an avg player vs a cheater/troublemaker/rule-breaker, etc.
Why? Because later down the pipeline, if that certain player becomes popular, more youngsters will most likely portray the same behavior which in return could be more troublesome for the team. Not to mention, if that player's team mates sees that X player is getting away with it, why should they not join in?

Speaking to the media, Kamran Akmal :

"Pakistan's squad for the T20 World Cup should not be selected based on friendship. The team should be selected on merit and based on the conditions of Australia"
