Several people have been stabbed in the Finnish city of Turku.

Police said on Twitter the suspected attacker was shot in the leg and arrested.

Finnish broadcaster YLE reported that several people were lying on the ground in the centre of the city.

A local tabloid, Ilta-Sanomat, reported that one man and five women were injured.

It claimed that a woman with a pushchair had been attacked by a man with a large knife.

Finnish police recommend people avoid the area.

They said that security at Helsinki airport and train stations was being reinforced.

If this is yet another terrorist atrocity, then it really is time for the West - especially the US, UK and France - to end all wars in the Arab/Muslim world, to impose severe sanctions upon Saudi Arabia, the root of all extremist ideologies and to cease selling billions worth of armaments to it, and other oil-rich Arab dictatorships.

I understand Finnish police are not treating this as a terrorist attack. But, have to wait and see what follows..

This guy was an asylum seeker from Morocco. Finland gave this man shelter and he repaid them by murdering two innocent people. It's also another example of others using the crisis in Syria for their own benefit. Morocco may not be the nicest place in the world but it's not a warzone like Syria or Iraq and there aren't any natural disasters or famines taking place there. So why should a young healthy man from Morocco be given asylum in Europe in the first place?

Police in Finland say a knifeman who killed two people in the south-western city of Turku on Friday appeared to choose women as targets.

They are treating the attack as a terrorist incident.

The suspect, arrested after being shot by police, is an 18-year-old Moroccan. Four other Moroccans have been held.

The two women stabbed to death were both Finnish. Eight people were also injured, among them a Briton, a Swede and an Italian.

The ages of the casualties ranged from 15 to 67, police said, but gave no more details.

PM Juha Sipila told a press conference that Finland had experienced a terror attack for the first time.

'Asylum process'

Police said in a statement: "The act had been investigated as murder, but during the night we received additional information which indicates that the criminal offences are now terrorist killings."

They said the identity of the 18-year-old Moroccan was known, but they have not released it.

At a later press briefing, they said the suspect had arrived in Finland in 2016 and had "been part of the asylum process".

Why would a young 18 year old go on rampage against a peaceful country like Finland who were nice enough to provide him refuge and a better life?

What do you suggest Finland does in this case, considering that it isn't part of any wars or an arms supplier to Arab nations?

Beautiful city from what I hear, has quiet a few peaceful Iraqi settlers there, sad this will create a different impression.

Finland is not involved in these wars so your logic is a failed one.

If only these idiotic Arab terrorists cared for things such as logic and causation.

Most asylum seekers come from extreme conservative backgrounds. Seeing women wearing western clothing, sometimes revealing (which is common in Western world) is something they cannot comprehend. Combine that with poor life and abuse at home.. the result is not good. Many become super religious after entering a foreign country.

i doubt women's clothing has much to do with motivations for such attacks

While Finland is not part of NATO, it works with NATO and made a contribution to the Afghanistan mission.

Maybe he was originally headed for Syria to live in the caliphate, then diverted to Finland after the collapse of said caliphate? One of the predicted blowbacks from dismantling ISIS was that some of them would now head to Europe for revenge of sorts. I am assuming this guy was an ISIS supporter from the manner of his attack.

Please educate yourselves. Finland sells weapons to Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries, and is involved, militarily, in the Middle East.

Finland beefs up arms exports to Middle East

Over the last 18 months, Finland’s Ministry of Defence has awarded domestic companies 50 permits to sell weapons to countries in the Middle East. Finland is currently supplying arms to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, for example, both of which have recently bombed civilian targets in Yemen.

Finland participates in Nato operations in places like Afghanistan:

This new security environment, and the centrality of the Baltic Sea region, opens a new chapter in the two Nordic countries’ partnership with NATO. Previously, the partnership focused almost exclusively on bolstering Sweden and Finland’s ability to participate in NATO’s out-of-area operations, in Afghanistan and elsewhere, an effort that stretches back all the way to when NATO took over responsibility for keeping the peace in Bosnia in the mid-1990s. During this period Finland and Sweden emerged as perhaps NATO’s most eager partners, and their consistent participation was recognized with both countries joining NATO’s enhanced opportunities partnership (alongside Australia, Jordan, and Georgia) in 2014. But NATO’s expeditionary era ended with the onset of the Ukraine crisis and the turbulence and violence spreading across North Africa and the Middle East. This has also had implications for Swedish and Finnish defense policy, and their continued relationship with NATO as partners.
