Shadab has had the all-clear from the medics in England and will be fit for the World Cup.

He is expected to be back playing cricket in a couple of weeks.
 
Huge boost to Pakistan. While I do not wish for any Pak player to fail, I do want Yasir to be replaced with Shadab regardless of the former's performance vs England. Maybe Shaddy can be brought mid series vs England?

I guess we are too early to judge a player, he averages 27 (47 wickets in 34 matches) with bowl with economy of under 5 and averages 29 with bat (Same as highly rated Pandya though with lower SR) with 3 50s to his name. Along with that he is a gun fielder and dont forget he is just 20 years old still learning his craft.
 
Thank God, his return means removal of 2 useless players from the lineup(Faheem and Yasir), which increases our chances significantly.
 
Am I the only one who finds it strange how mediocre players who have hardly done anything at the top level can be injured and miss out on key practice matches but on return to full fitness they can walk straight into the World Cup squad? I never had a problem with a half fit Imran Khan or unfit Javed Miandad in 92 because they were legends and their presence on the field alone counted for something - but nowadays anyone from Shadab to Imad can be unfit and then return almost like they are irreplaceable ... yeah right as if no one else can’t contribute their quota of 20 runs and 2 wickets, so called ‘all rounders’..

It goes up to 37 against the top 5 teams and his batting is useless in limited overs look at his strike rate bits and pieces cricketer.
Hard to see anything other than phainty on flatter English wickets for Shadab only thing is Yasir is worse the obsession with leg spinners has to stop bowlers whether they are SLAO Off spinners Leg Spinners or other should be picked on merit.

Shadab has a big task ahead.

We will need the pre-fame Shadab of 2017 if we atleast want to get to semis.

And inshaAllah he won’t disappoint.
 
This is only 'good' news because the alternative (according to the selectors) is Yasir Shah
 
Thank god. You may not rate him, but you do know deep down inside that he is 5 times better than Yasir in all facets of the game.
 
lol to those doubting shadab khan, remember, his contribution in CT final...very important catch under pressure after paindoo azhar ali dropped kohli the ball before, and then yuvraj singh's wicket - and the strong decision to review the lbw. At 18 years old, showing that kind of confidence in a pressure match is very rare.

say what you want about his skills, but pakistan needs these types of players who have character and are willing to take the fight to the opposition.

no more of malik and hafeez anymore PLEASE.

Forget about his recent performance, I'm happy he is recovering and hopefully will perform well both with bat and ball in the WC. He quite capable of that.

Bad news!!!! Yasir should be in the World Cup squad after taking 20 wickets in UAE series giving away only 70 runs in 5 matches with 2 hat tricks.
He also scored 3 50s, took 10 catches and saved at least 50 runs and let us win the ODI series against Australia by 5-0.

Doctor after examining said that he is fully fit and will be available for the WC19.

Is it good for Pakistan?

Why waste a spot right now with Yasir when Shadab always a first choice.

Use this series for amir hasnain and faheem.

Yes, good to hear that,

But, I don;t think he was sick and recovered from any illness, he was just found to carry some virus in his blood on screening test , probably required by ICC before a big event for players from some countries where some virus illness is endemic. He was tested/checked up at probably ICC designated facility in UK and got all clear and free to play.

It wasnt just him but whole team struggled against top 5 teams. Two of his 50s came against NZ in NZ, yes SR is a problem which I mentioned in my initial post. If he is so easy to hit why isnt he taken to cleaners on flat surfaces in T20s where he is ranked no 2 as a bowler.

Things our fans need to understand is that players need to be developed and Shadab hasnt played much cricket even at domestic level.

If we have even produced Amla or ABD after their first 10-20 games in tests our fans would have already given their verdict that they are mefiocre. Amla averaged in 20s in tests in his first 10-15 tests while ABD wasnt achieving much either. Same goes with number of spinners and pacers who developed over time.
 
Good news. I would want him in the playing XI. I still think are are wasting 2 spots with Imad and Faheem who literally do not add anything to the team.
 
Why can't he play the last 2-3 ODI's against Eng?

The guy hasn't played cricket since march and we will field in the WC straight away?

I still do not understand what exactly Shadab was sent to England for ? What test or medicine he could not get here in Pakistan and what kind of expert he was went to see in UK which is not available at Lahore/Islamabad.

How many of us truly believe Shadab has or will fully recover? Sounds like we are desperate to play him and so is he.. don’t think he is going to be 100%

you will be surprised to know how incompetent our local doctors are especially beyond their areas of competency. Medicine is super specialised field and in Pakistan we still are long way to go

This is over generalization. If he needed any surgery, you could say that but not for hepatitis. Some of the best physician this field are in Pakistan.

Standard of health care in UK is not at par with some other developed countries, certainly far lower than USA.
 
According to a source close to the team, he will join the squad before the World Cup warm-up matches.
 
He will give Pakistan better balance. He and Imad can play at number 7 and 8 , and Pakistan can play three specialist seam bowlers.

He still has 2 warm-up games to play, besides we don't have other options.

Even a quarter cooked Shadab is million times better than Yasir Shah.

I always feel it's batsmen who need game time more than bowlers. He'll be fine inshallah. We just need him back.
 
We need him ,Hafeez and Abid if we want to do well in the WC

Need to drop Yasir,Nephew and Mickey's favorite/Faheem with immediate effect.. Haris can take the no 3 spot and can perform much better

Not leg spinners mate, confidence and rhythm are extremely important, I can't emphasise this enough, only a leg spinners union will understand this but their unpredictability and erratic ways at times can also hammer this point home. Having said that, the warm up games should help in shaking off a bit of rust.
 
Pakistan’s young leg-spin all-rounder Shadab Khan has been declared fit to play in the ICC World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board has announced.

“The latest blood tests carried out show zero viral load in his blood,” the PCB said in a press release late Tuesday night.

Shadab was named in Pakistan’s 15-member World Cup squad but couldn’t fly with the team to England after tests revealed traces of hepatitis C in his blood stream. (Complete coverage of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019)

The PCB sent him to Manchester to consult with Dr Patrick Kennedy, who had given the leg-spinner two week’s medication and rehab course, which Shadab went through at the National Cricket Academy.

The PCB said Shadab would leave for England on May 16 and will consult Dr Kennedy the next day.

The board said Shadab’s appearances in the World Cup warm-up matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh on May 24 and 26 were subject to his fitness and team management’s decision.

Shadab said he was delighted to have cleared the medical tests and be declared fit for the World Cup.

“It has been difficult to stay away from international cricket and watch Pakistan play. As a professional cricketer, you want to be part of the team’s success. Having played in the 2017 Champions Trophy I understand the glamour, flavour and importance of global events,” Shadab said.

“I am looking forward to competing in the World Cup and help Pakistan achieve success,” he added.

Pakistan’s young leg-spinner, Shadab Khan is optimistic about team’s performance in England and believes that once the bowlers get in groove, they will start winning games.

Khan was addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi for the first time since he was diagnosed with Hepatitis C Virus in his blood ahead of the England tour. He shared that he was supported by his family, friends, teammates and the region. However, he was extremely frustrated when he learned about the virus and did not want to talk about it with anyone.

Shadab Khan has recovered from the virus and he is all set to represent Pakistan in the mega cricketing event, which is scheduled to be played in England and Wales from May 30th to July 14th.

The 20-year-old feels that Pakistan’s batting line is doing extremely well, but they are struggling because their bowlers are not striking in the middle-overs.

“We are playing competitive cricket at the moment, players are in good form, our bowlers have not been able to give their best performances so far, but whenever they will click, we will start winning matches,” he said.

Khan said that Pakistan are missing out on their three to four key players at the moment including Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and himself, which is causing trouble for the team. Moreover, he feels players will get in a better rhythm till the World Cup starts.

The young leggie is determined to adjust in English playing conditions as soon as possible, moreover he believes it will not be a tough ask for him as he is touring with the team there for the past three years.

According to Khan, Pakistan will have to take wickets to control the run flow, cricket has become so fast that teams struggle to defend even big totals like 350.

“You have to take wickets with the new ball and strike in the middle overs as well, if you don’t do that, you can concede even 150 runs in the last ten overs,” he said.

Shadab Khan declared fit for World Cup


Lahore, 14 May 2019:

Shadab Khan has been declared fit for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 after his latest test results reflected zero viral load in his blood, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced today.


The leg-spinner will now leave for London on Thursday, 16 May, where he will consult Dr Patrick Kennedy on Friday, 17 May, before joining the team in Bristol on Monday, 20 May.

However, Shadab’s appearances in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 warm-up matches, scheduled for 24 and 26 May against Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectively, are subject to his fitness and the team management’s decision.

Shadab Khan said: “I am delighted to know that the blood tests are negative and I can now return to competitive cricket. I was always very confident that I would fully recover from the viral infection and will be available for the World Cup.

“Having played and won the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, I understand the importance, flavour and glamour of global events and what success in such events mean to the players and the public. I am looking forward to featuring in the World Cup and will leave no stone unturned in helping Pakistan put up a strong show.

“It has been difficult to stay away from international cricket and watch Pakistan play outstandingly – both in Cardiff and Southampton. As a professional cricketer, you want to be part of such games. In both the matches, Pakistan have shown their capability and ability, and I am sure with some fine tuning, we will be ready to take on the world.”

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur said: “It is fabulous news and on behalf of the Pakistan cricket team, I look forward to welcoming Shadab back in the squad. Shadab is one of the finest of his generation and is an influential figure in the team. His presence in the dressing room and on the field of play keeps the side geared up and motivated.

“Shadab’s inclusion also balances what is a young but extremely talented squad. I understand it will take Shadab some time to be back at his brilliant best as he has not played cricket for a few weeks, but our first game is on 31 May and he has got two weeks to regain complete form and fitness.

“He is a brave lad and the way he has fought back to regain fitness is a testament to his attitude and approach, which gives us the encouragement that he will be hopefully available for selection for our World Cup opener.”

PCB Managing Director Wasim Khan said: “The PCB also had a duty of care towards Shadab and that’s precisely why we went for the best specialist in England. So, from that perspective, we are all very happy that he has received a clean chit and can resume normal cricket activities.

“Shadab is also one of the players who is respected immensely by all the participating sides as he is a quality bowler, fielder and batsman. I am sure his availability will give tremendous confidence and boost to the morale and spirit of the Pakistan cricket team ahead of the pinnacle 50-over competition.”

Shadab was named in the original 15-player ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 squad on 18 April. However, he was withdrawn from the series against England after blood tests revealed a virus that required treatment and rest for, at least, four weeks. On 26 April, the PCB had set-up Shadab’s appointment with Dr Kennedy, a world-renowned gastroenterologist and hepatologist with specialisation in liver diseases in elite sportsmen, who had put him on medication and advised two weeks of complete rest.

He will have 2 warm up games to prepare and then we need him to fire in the world Cup. He is essential if we are to succeed in the tournament.
 
Pakistan legspinner Shadab Khan believes his only challenge ahead of the World Cup will be to find rhythm as he is mentally prepared for what lies ahead. The leggie missed out on the tour to Ireland and England, which was expected to serve as preparation for Pakistan for the upcoming World Cup, due to a virus found in his blood during a routine medical checkup. He has recovered from that and is expected to be a part of the side for the mega tournament.

"I was always very much hopeful because the viral found in my blood was at its initial stage," said Shadab. "With two weeks of medicine, it's clear out of my blood. Now I am heading towards World Cup. Since we are going there regularly from last 3 years and it isn't really difficult to acclimatise with the condition. All I have to do is get in my rhythm otherwise you are mentally prepared for the challenge.

"I have already played in a competitive tournament - champions trophy - which we won. Even though we lost few games, I know how to adapt myself in a big tournament."

Shadab was initially picked in Pakistan's provisional 15-member squad. But after doubts over his health, the threat of him missing the World Cup loomed large. Speaking about the situation, the legspinner said, "When you suddenly get to know that you have viral in your blood so naturally I got frustrated but my teammates and friends have been very supportive.

"I had a strong belief that whatever happens, happens for a reason and for good. I was tensed up on the first day but then I told my friends that whatever happened it is done and if anything good happens it will happen. So I asked them to avoid talking to me about it."

In Shadab's absence, Yasir Shah got a chance to make a case for himself. However, after a disappointing performance in the second ODI, he was dropped for the third game. Without their full-strength bowling attack in play, they lost both their matches despite scoring over 350 runs in each game. However, Shadab chose not to delve too deep into Pakistan's concerns but added that taking wickets would be crucial for them if they have to win matches in England in the upcoming World Cup.

"Nowadays you have to take wickets because cricket became very fast and even 350 isn't a par score," he said. "Yes, we have been struggling with the ball in middle over but the way batting is performing its a good sign. No doubt we lost the games but we put a good fight and played competitive cricket which gives a lot of boost to the team. Pakistan anyway still hold an ability to win the following games.

"Our team has 100 percent skills to do well in the World Cup. They are struggling (but) so are other teams in many ways. They are playing good cricket overall. Bowlers are not doing well, they are actually not in the rhythm required but once they start clicking we will start winning the games. When you missing out your four key players, it becomes increasingly tough. But there is a difference between pressure for a (normal bilateral) series and a World Cup. So I am optimistic about our chances there and we will try to win the World Cup."

In the modern age of uber-talented batsmen relentlessly unfurling scoops, sweeps and slogs to pepper boundaries, there is one rare art that still proves a bowling attack’s great equaliser in one-day international cricket.

A quality leg-spinner is, and always will be, worth their weight in gold, the craftsman who can bamboozle and stem the tide that increasingly dictates the flow of an international limited-overs encounter. Their ability to operate at multiple stages of an innings, easing the burden on seamers tasked with facing ever-more-skilled batsmen armed only with two new balls that don’t often reach the point of reverse swing, is as critical as it is desperately sought.

In previous eras, wrist-spin was the scarcest of skills, that mysterious knack bestowed upon only the gifted few. Come this summer, however, it will be showcased like never before, with 12 operating at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and only two teams – Bangladesh and West Indies – not unleashing a frontline option.

Of those, one of the most exciting is Pakistan’s 20-year-old Shadab Khan, a bundle of tricks and treats who boasts 47 wickets across 34 games at a tick over 29. But just why are he and contemporaries such as England’s Adil Rashid – who has taken more wickets than any bowler since the previous World Cup – so difficult to face?

“Because wrist-spinners spin every way,” Shadab tells the ICC. “If there is spin there it’s very difficult to play if you bowl in good areas, and it’s very difficult to play on any surface. That’s why it’s important. With a leg-spinner, yes you may score runs, but he is a wicket-taker. You’re always looking for wickets so that’s why we’re always in the game.”

With run rates above six an over now almost a formality in most encounters, the task of bowling groups has evolved, from control to conquer. The weight of runs may be impossible to stop, but chipping in with wickets can at least manage the damage.

“It’s a very important role,” says Shadab. “With batting [friendly] tracks the par score will be 300 so, if you take wickets in the middle overs, you have a good chance to win games. On these batting surfaces we have to take wickets, otherwise they’ll score 350-plus, so if you take the wickets you can contain them under 300. To contain them under 300 is very good.”

Such is the depth of tweakers in the tournament that there could even be some internal competition among the likes of Shadab and Rashid. For Pakistan’s star, however, merely being on the field is a relief, having missed the five-match one-day international series against England through illness. After coming through 10 overs in the warm-up game versus Afghanistan, he feels fresh and ready to fire. “I feel better,” he says. “I’m in very good rhythm. I practised one or two days and bowled very well yesterday so I’m good.”

“In the England series,” he adds, “every game we were close. In the crunch situation we didn’t win but we played very good cricket, competitive cricket. Our batting is in good form, our bowling hasn’t performed so far but, if you take one or two wickets, then they can slip up.”

Tasked with delivering those scalps will be their young twirler, the leg-spinning X-factor capable of altering the course of bat-dominated occasions.
