Shaheen Afridi's energy as captain is what the Pakistan team needs

He has turned around the fortunes of the worst performing PSL Franchise in 2 seasons as captain. The Franchise was the most underperforming, riddiculed in the first 6 seasons but he has created such a strong camaraderie in his group of players. The team is very well liked by the fans and they have sold out all their 3 games in Qadhaffi Stadium in this PSL.

You can see his energy in the field and how he keeps the team together, the confidence he gives to the bowlers and his willingness to lead by example. He even gambled by coming up the order no matter how riddiculous it looked but it should a guy who wants to lead by example.

Apparently Shaheen off the field has taken complete ownership of the Franchise i.e. T-Shirts, outfits, song, marketing of the franchise.

We need a leader who wears the teams results on his sleeve unlike the selfish stat padding i dont care whether we win or lose Babar Azam. Pakistan desperately needs a captain who can provide the energy of Virat Kohli to the team in the field. Enough of the incompetent clueless devoid of energy captains like Babar Azam, Azhar Ali and co.

I thought he would struggle and would be very reliant on other players around him. I also thought he would panic and lose his cool, but he's been very impressive and not panicked at important moments.

I think any young captain needs to strong coaching staff to support him, for the team to progress. The type of coaching staff that can lift as well as challenge, when necessary.

Shaheen has that, under the Aquib regime at LQ. He also does confer a lot with Wiese.

If Pakistan have the appropriate coaching staff to back him, I think him becoming national team captain isn’t the worst idea.

There's a lot wrong with KK and don't think either Babar or Imad are/were in control. Last year they had Peter Moores as the head coach. Anyone who's followed Wasim Akram in last 10 years would know how much he loves Peter Moores. Even asked PCB to approach him for the Pak's head coach position in the past(2011,2016)

PZ has a much better support staff but their squad selection has been very weak in last 2-3 seasons. Babar isn't as tactically gifted as he is as a batter. Usman Qadir is very much his pick in PZ squad this year. Think PZ are just happy with having Babar in the franchise atm.

Aqib made his fair share of blunders before getting one right in Shaheen. Fakhar, Hafeez, Sohail Akhtar etc. The development of Shaheen and Haris has been admirable though.

Well that's how it should be captain should have a say.as a captain Babar has played Haseebullah,Saim,Haseebullah All in the top 5.

The whole Lahore Qalandar team on field looks so energetic. Every player looks very excited to be on field and it seems that he is enjoying the action. It is almost intimidating as an opposition. No wonder they are doing so well.

shaheen carries himself well, and the psl is helping him to develop his leadership style. has to be in running for the LOI captaincy.

He is certainly producing good results at Lahore, he really leads from the front and plays with his heart on his sleeve. I'm sure it's motivating when your captain is steaming in first over with high intensity, bowling out of his skin and consistently giving his sides winning starts.

Perhaps he can start off with the T20I captaincy when this is done

No surprise at all. Persona wise, you can see who will be a good leader after you’ve watched them play the game for a year or more. Which was apparent with Shaheen.

Then it becomes about proving their mettle in terms of strategy once they get the role in domestics or internationals for the next 1-2 years. And so far it’s been promising.

Next captain easily if Babar does not improve.

Just energy is not enough , he still need to concentrate on his bowling , there is still room for improvement . Not ready to lead national team, not yet . Not sure why he promoted himself ahead of Raza in batting , he is a tailender .

I liked the bowling changes as well yesterday. Bowled out Rashid Khan early so that he can pick wickets in a low scorer. Gave one over to Raza because other slower bowlers were doing well. Allowed last five for pacers

However, given his public endorsement of Babar's captaincy on Twitter and criticism of Amir comments during PSL, I don't think he'll take it of offered by PCB.

He should be the captain for all 3 formats. I think he is the best candidate currently.

It won't work at the International stage if the PCB rush it.

I think Shaheen has the potential to go down as Pakistan's best bowler after Wasim and here's hoping he can play a 15+ year career. He will likely get the captaincy at some stage, but way too early to do it now as it will backfire into oblivion.

PCB should do the right thing, and make Rizwan the captain for T20Is and ODIs. And give him 10 games as skipper before the world cup to get the side gel along.

Babar is a very average captain, I believe even his biggest fan would agree with that.

The issue comes when he is criticized for being not good enough, when he is head and shoulders above any player in Pakistan. People saying this kind of stuff don’t have a leg to stand on and their opinions should never be taken seriously.

Shaheen is the only candidate to replace Babar right now anyway. No one else has a fixed spot in all three formats on the basis of performance.

Exactly the bowling line up he currently has is better than most international teams bowling line up.
