Superb innings, what a player this guy is. 147 in the first innings and a 100* here and he can take WI to a priceless victory. Would be brilliant if they can pull it off considering the amount of criticism they received after the first Test.

That is why you persist with batsmen who show promise even if they fail in their first few innings. :babar

How did no one else make twin FC hundreds in this ground in over a hundred years. Crazy!

Because for about 70-80 off those 100 years the pitch would crumble up and get destroyed by third fourth day since it wasn't covered and it rains in the UK nearly everyday.

I know but no one has scored twin hundreds there in test matches and domestic first class matches combined in that ground. On top of that they've covered the pitches for the last 30 or so years so it's crazy that no one has done even in the last 30 years.

Well there aren't many mediocre bowling attacks around like the English one :))

Both innings were incredible , one of the best batting performances over two innings ever!

I hope he keeps his feet on the ground as this lad can become a Windies great.

Love that cut shot, a lot of Richie Richardson in that stroke. Swivelling on to the back foot and then flailing the bat at the ball in such a forcefully extravagant manner. In the course of a single test match, he's become my favourite batsman. Perhaps I desperately want to latch on to this slight ray of light in West Indies cricket.

Hope has set himself the bar high. Pressure will be on him to score more consistently now. Let's see how he copes with the pressure.

For WI's sake hopefully he will step up more from now on.

Was thinking the same, when I heard this first , I though it got to be a mistake, no one-----ever, unbelievable.

It just didn't happen.

Normally, a sunny Headingley is one of the best batting tracks in UK, in fact world. Bradman has 2 triple there, and AUS chased 400+ on Day 5 as well (again Bradman 180+*). Some of the best ever FC batsmen were Yorkshire man - Sutcliffe, Hutton, Boycott, Leyland are Test greats; while Jack Brown, John Tunnicliffe, David Denton scored lots of FC runs there. On top of that, JB Hobbs has scored several 2nd innings hundred (FC) there, but none twice in a match. Normally, Headingley is a true surface, very good for batting with lots of carry & even bounce, hence it has produced highest No. of English greats with bat, ball (both pace & spin) or WK. And, it's not over 100 years - FC cricket started in Yorkshire almost 200 years ago.

LONDON, United (CMC) — West Indies batting star Shai Hope has been named by prestigious Wisden as one of its five Cricketers-of-the-Year.

The 24-year-old Barbadian was joined by England Women's World Cup-winning trio of Heather Knight, Anya Shrubsole and Nat Sciver, along with Essex fast bowler Jamie Porter.

Hope enjoyed a breakthrough year in international cricket last year, scoring centuries in both innings of the second Test against England as West Indies famously beat the hosts by five wickets after chasing down 322 on the final day at Leeds.

“Shai Hope produced one of the individual performances of the year,” said Almanack editor Lawrence Booth.

“After West Indies had been thrashed in the first Test at Edgbaston, Hope made 147 and 118 not out to inspire them to a famous win in the second at Headingley.

“He was the first player in 534 first-class matches to score two hundreds in a game there, instantly making him the West Indian wicket all opposition attacks craved most.”

He was also the first player in 127 years of first class cricket at Headingley to achieve the feat.

Until that Test, the right-handed Hope had made one half-century in 21 innings and was averaging just 18 overall.

He finished the series with 375 runs at an average of 75 and has subsequently lifted his career average to 33 from 17 Tests.

Hope is the first West Indies player since Marlon Samuels in 2013 to be named to the honour roll.

Meanwhile, India captain Virat Kohli was named Wisden's Leading Cricketer-in-the-World, his compatriot Mithali Raj, the Leading Women's Cricketer-in-the-World, with exciting Pakistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan adjudged Leading Twenty20 Cricketer-in-the-World.

Shai Hope scored a magnificent 109* runs off 83 balls to get his 16th hundred to win the game against England.

He is one of the most consistent batter after Kohli and Babar.
