Sharjeel found himself in PSL, then T20i, odis and now even got a go in tests

All this has happened in a year.

Sharjeel averages 41+ in Odis, since his comeback with 133+ str. Rate(xompare this with Shezi, 33 avg with 75 str Rate) in 13 Odis, out of which 10 are in ENG/AUS

And he has played just one match against a minnow.

And most importantly,he is improving day b day, from a hack to a hitter.

His gamble has paid off.

He needs another partner, and Shahzaib suits the best.

He's a great all round game compared to Sharjeel

He's improved his fitness.

If he can impress the selectors in the coming PSL, and get selected for WI TOUR.

then Pakistan can have a destructive opening pair, with left-right combo

Sharjeel and Shahzaib

And top order would be

Sharjeel
Shahzaib
Babar
Haris

Hope Shahzaib does well in the PSL, and impresses Mickey and Inzi
 
Sharjeel is superior however shahzaib should be in the ODI and T20 teams as well either as opener or lower middle order batsman
 
There's no question of VS. And why? Both need to play. They shouldn't be competing with each other.

Sharjeel has more talent though.

Sharjeel has proven himself over the last year in the international arena and I would say has exceeded expectations. Scored good runs and has maintained a high SR. Shahzaib so far hasn't done anything of note in internationals but def needs a chance given his hitting credentials and the needs of modern day cricket. His domestic performances suggest he should get the nod at least in shorter formats.
 
He's had a good domestic t20 tournament and a stand out List A innings which isn't enough of a sample, and he's been found out at international level before. But that doesn't mean he can't hasn't improved his game for the top level now.

In times like these we're desperate for a power-hitter anywhere in the eleven, we only have Sharjeel (Khalid in t20's) so Shahzaib should be fast-tracked nonetheless. I personally have always wanted him in the team because he's the only player in who's career I've had a beneficial role, even though a small part.
 
Shahzaib has to be in the squad .

He would surely get benefitted.

And IF he learns, the team would be benefitted

confidence is because of Haris
Shahzaib still has to prove himself in internationals. Fitness is the biggest issue if he had worked on it and had improved his attitude towards throwing his bat to the ball, waiting for the right ball then he has the ability we are looking for.
 
I think there is no issue in taking that chance with shahzaib by start playing him ONLy in 20/20 for now and see how he progress through and then to ODI. I agree PSL will be important for Shahzaib. But one thing we need to remember that Sharjeel was more consistent on domestic level compare to Shahzaib. Shahzaib needs to do that as well. BUt if her performs well in PSL there is no harm in trying him for WI 20/20 squad.

Sharjeel averaged 51.96 in List A before being selected.
 
Looking at his record on cricinfo he has considerably done well in shorer format of the game.He is really player to watch out in upcoming season of PSL . Hope he delivers his best.

Bro we cannot wait for Shahzaib to average 50 in LA. He wont. And he's already in his mid twenties, the possible use we can get of him is right now. Get him into the team for CT '17 so that at least we can reach the Quarter finals. Honestly, even a 35-40 would be more than enough with Sharjeel going crazy on the other end. That would set the platform for Babar and Azam to build the innings and Imad and Sarfi (don't really rate him as a finisher tho) to finish it off.

Sharjeel is top class, ideal LOI bat. Potentially excellent in Tests too.

Shahzaib is also decent.

Sharjeel gets the most runs for your team and NEVER plays selfishly. If that is your definition of hacks, I pray Pakistan cricket has more and more and more and more hacks and never see the light of technique (Asad Shafiq)
 
Both can't run, can't field, can't bat for more than 10-15 overs at a stretch.

Sharjeel struggled in England didnt do so well against WI though selectors and mgmt persisted with him and gave him a test debut too but now has improved by a bigger margin in AUS.. he has scored 170 runs in 4 matches followed by another fifty tomorrow he is off from a wonderful series as a batsman and opener..

Shahzaib should use the PSL as platform for his int'l cap.. if he does well then surely he will be going to WI..

I think PP'ers are confusing power hitters and proper batsman like Warner with hacks like Shazaib.

Go on select him, you lot will be calling for his head in no time.

You're probably one of those guys who called Sharjeel a hack, too.

Anyways, it doesn't matter even if he fails in the start. Sharjeel failed a LOT of times.

I'm glad we stuck with him. Should persist with Shahzaib even if he fails for 5-10 games.

Also had 5 fifties in 9 games in the domestic T20 cup.
 
I don't mind how hack he is. We are not selecting him for tests. If he can swing the bat and can prevent it from tilting while playing a shot and could still maintain his grip, he is an upgrade over Malik, Hafeez, Azhar and Rizwan.

If Sharjeel plays at least 10 overs (60 balls) then Pakistan will win that match. The last match he plays at least 10 overs (60 balls), he scored 152 runs in 86 balls.
 
he looks fitter and at his best he relies on timing as much as brute strength. I see no reason why he shouldn't be given a go, no one else competes with him when it comes to another aggressive partner for sharjeel.

He is prone to more slogs then sharjeel but that doesn't mean he cant be effective.

Yeah, agreed. Lol at preventing the bat from tilting. This actually IS a problem with Pak bats, or those who try to be "aggressive" and have no clue of hitting against intl class bowlers. :)))

He will be an upgrade to Khalid Latif in T20s. In ODIs, Umar akmal should open with Sharjeel.

No way. Umar Akmal doesn't deserve to be in the team after his abysmal series in Aus but you could let that go. What you cannot let go, however, is his fitness. Absolutely pathetic.
 
Pakistan need to gamble at the moment and it can pay off in the shape of shahzaib hasan. If sharjeel and Shahzaib stay at the crease together of 10-12 overs we will already have score we get in 25 overs usually. We should play him against west indies.

LOL! The last match he lasted 17 overs and still Pakistan lost the match.

The match before that he lasted 16 overs yet they lost.

So what are you trying to imply?
 
Every time I've followed the domestic T20 tournaments, these two have been by far the most consistent and best openers.

I would love to see them bat together and they would form a destructive duo.

Have them both.

I would open the bowling with Ashwin, to apply brakes

Even Ashwin is getting carted all over the ground nowadays

Sharjeel is improving but still has to go further. He had potential to get to 40 average , with 100 strike rate . That would be good for Pakistan
 
It's high time Shahzaib is selected to pair with Sharjeel. The latter's game will become even better with Shahzaib batting with him because he'll also take the pressure off Sharjeel.

I had asked for persistence with Sharjeel and it's starting to pay dividends. It's important now that he continues to improve his fitness levels and builds on this excellent performance against the Aussies. This particular series should give him a world of confidence that he can play against any attack and that the longer he bats, the bigger he will score. He has started to show the willingness to bat for long as well.

Shahzaib should be on that plane to the Caribbean regardless of how he performs in PSL as he's the only other destructive opener in domestic LOIs. Should be selected for both ODIs & T20s.

As it has been stated, avgs. 44 with a SR of 130 in 14 matches since his return to ODI team. If he starts to convert 50s into big 100s, he'll become a legit star for us.
 
Can't wait to see Shazaib in the PSL. Have a feeling if he has a good tournament he'll tour the West Indies. The good thing is Arthur will see him action and get a chance to work with him.
 
On a side note, is Shahzaib a good fielder? Who can he be compared to in the current Pakistani side?

Sharjeel is lazy and a bad catcher. Haris Sohail if fit and still able, is another lazy fielder. Our fast bowlers, Amir/Junaid/Hasan Ali/Rahat Ali/Irfan/Sohail Khan are all pathetic fielders. I hope and pray that the next batch of batsmen we pick are good fielders.
 
This tournament he's been really consistent.

All I can say is FTP is really good for him

3 against WI @ WI
Min 3 in CT against IND, SRL, RSA @ ENG
5 against SRL @ UAE
Min 6 at the Independence cup against SRL, IND, RSA @ SRL.

So his tough times are over.

He can feast on these SRL and WI trundles.

Against Us(India), I am not sure.

If he's on song, he would feast on our bowlers as well.

I am really concerned about Pandya bowling to Sharjeel.
 
Ppl like Shahzeb are good for leagues but not fit enough at international level
 
Shahzaib can be devastating when the balls stops swinging and also can kill spinners for fun, can be tried at no5 instead of Malik.
 
Shazaib is def not the answer to LOI ....
given more n more teams , esp the asian teams, bring spinners very early on, we need a player who is good with spin
and the best chemistry tht we have for Sharjeel is ...... Khalid Latif... he is fit, strong, aggressive and excellent player of spin... give them both the LOI top order... with babar and sohail... will be gr8 followed by sarfraz

Shahzaib has been inconsistent he failed yesterday which was disappointing I thought he would get a lot of runs following his innings in the SF. He needs to have a good PSL and he should 100% be in the t20 squad and a good psl maybe he can be in ODIs

Sharjeel is s batsman. Shazaib belongs in the league of Awais Zia- two of the worst batsmen I have ever seen.
 
i feel karachi have been very harsh on shahzaib as he didnt look too bad in his short stay at the crease in the psl. If Gayle got so many chances why not shahzaib? i want karachi to lose for not playing shahzaib..Even jaya was preferred to him...awful decision...
 
I agree with you they have not only been harsh to him, but Shahzaib is such an excellent player of T20 that majority of the games where he has scored runs the team always ends up winning the match.

A player that has so much calibre and class was not played again in today's match!

Why do Karachi keep playing the same old players again even though they have struggled in this tournament badly. Doesn't it make sense to give other players like shahzaib a chance to perform,
yet again this is all the politics of Karachi kings team behind closed doors :-)
 
The 4 forgein players rule has really bitten Shazaib.

Babar and Malik didnt merit being dropped

All the bowler bar Amir did well. Their only foreign bowler was rylan mclaren

Its very disappointing, i hope though that he still gets selected, hopefully someone in the pcb has looked at his overall all record plus his recent list a performances

After sharjeel, Shazaib is the only opener in Pakistan who has a good average and strikes at above 100 in List A
 
Totally agree with you, they need to look at Shahzaibs domestic statistics and give him at least a fair go in the t20's.

What was this 4 foreign player rule which is kind of harsh on our Pakistani players they don't even get a chance to even play a game!

Would have been ideal opening partners in Champions Trophy.


Before 2011 WC we lost two World Class pacers and now we Lost two best available openers.


Shahzaib 2.0 was much fitter and much improved stroke maker. Shahzaib is one of the rare right hand batsman who could hit a six over cover and extra cover against 137+ deliveries. Has all the shots all round the round. Lately he had started taking singles aswell and playef with maturity and far better temperament.


On the other hand Sharjeel has understood his short comings and had started to take singles of deliveries which were not in his zone while being brutal against deliveries which were in his zone. His consistency had improved and he had very decent last 2 Odi series.



Huge Set back.
 
Do you guys remember when I use to have nick name for Sharjeel Khan and the way he batted, it was Sharjeel "Bad Intentions" Khan; he took that too far didn't he.....:/
 
Could have been a good opening pair. But they sold themselves for a few dollars.
 
Nasir, for not getting chances to play, spoiled three openers, all of them who were hitters.

Already, Pakistan is suffering from the lack of hard hitting openers, since a decade. And they lost Four hard hitting openers, just in a flash
