Shikhar Dhawan announces retirement from all cricket [Update at Post#154]

Probably the most underrated indian player ever 🥲 He always scored runs against formidable opponents at home and away. Never shown attitude or surrounded with controversies..
His knocks vs RSA in 2015 world cup, vs Australia in 2019 wc, 200+ vs RSA A are some of the greatest ever i seen.

Shikhar Dhawan slammed the fastest ton of all-time on Test debut

He's not really underrated. It's just India has high standards for ATG's.

Dhawan is obviously not sehwag, Sachin, Hitman or kohli, but he is >>>>> the likes of Gill, rahul etc etc.

That pathetic celebration and occasional horrendous catching apart , dude was as clutch as they came. Terrific ICC tournament player.

Shikhar Dhawan Joins Legends League Cricket Following International Retirement

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan on Monday joined the Legends League Cricket (LLC) following his retirement from international cricket. Having announced his retirement on Saturday, the 38-year-old southpaw can now compete in T20 leagues outside the IPL. "My body is still conditioned for the demands of the game, and while I'm at ease with my decision, cricket is an inseparable part of who I am, it will never go out of me. I am eager to regroup with my cricketing friends and continue to entertain my fans as we create new memories together," said Dhawan in a statement.

Dhawan represented India in 34 Tests, 167 ODIs and 68 T20s, aggregating 12,286 international runs.

The Legends League Cricket will be staged in September.

'He's Different, Still of International Quality': ILT20 CEO Interested in Having Shikhar Dhawan for Season 3

ILT20 CEO David White is looking to make the third edition of the tournament bigger and better than the previous ones. Apart from working on getting more people at the venues and offering better experiences to the people watching the games on screens, White is also determined to have class players onboard to make the ILT20 season 3 a massive hit.

Speaking with the Times of India, White said he is interested to have former India opener Shikhar Dhawan onboard. The latter recently announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket and will feature in the upcoming edition of the Legends League Cricket (LLC).

White said the ILT20 is interested in having Dhawan playing in the UAE and currently, they are navigating a way to get it done.

“Yep. I think that there’s been some inquiries in that direction. But that’s only happened in the last 24 hours. So I haven’t got anything to report on that, but there’s certainly interest,” White was quoted as saying by the leading Indian daily.

“But we’ve no idea of whether he’s going to carry on playing cricket of that standard or not, but as soon as we heard the news, we were making some enquiries, but we’ve had no more information so far. We are just trying to investigate whether he has retired fully from cricket or not. I’m not going to hide that there is an interest, of course,” he added.

White clarified that the ILT20 isn’t going to be a league of retired players ever and it focuses on having players of international class. But speaking of Dhawan, the tournament CEO said the former India batter is still of ‘international quality’.

“I think we’ve got to make it clear that this is an international style of tournament of a high profile. Shikhar Dhawan is different, he is still of international quality. We don’t want it to be a legends tournament. This is a high-standard international team, with nine international players, all of current IPL or international class, the majority of them or promising young players coming through. So, it’s not a retirement tournament at all,” White said.

“This is a high-level tournament. In fact, after the first two seasons of our league, some people who have played with us have been taken into the IPL later. Two really interesting examples are Jake Fraser McGurk, who played last year, and went on to IPL and the latest one is Jamie Smith. He made a Test hundred (against Sri Lanka) just the other day

“He played in it (ILT20) last year as well. So whilst we want current internationals or IPL players, it also is an opportunity for aspirant players to come through promising players to make their name. So, it’s a great opportunity. Some young UAE players have really stepped up and played well. It’s a great opportunity for the established and promising players. I really want to stress that this is a high-quality tournament of current international and IPL players,” he added.

Would be a Pakistani ATG just Indian batting standards are next level.
But tbf bro, Name an opening batter better then him excluding the obvious?

Rohit is superior, Sehwag is better and Sachin is better sure.

Who else? Ig sunny gaviskar but we're not going all the way back to the 60's and 70's?

Dhawan for starters was way better then Ghambir, he was the only opener who wasn't a chocker and was a top performer in occ tournaments. Avg of 44, sr of 91 and 17 100's which is significantly more then ghambir despite both of these 2 playing the same no of matches?

Ghambir just has the 2011 vibes going for him.

Afterwards Gill, Jaiswal etc have not replaced dhawan at all. Gill was overhyped but his form plummeted into oblivion after dengue. Even got dropped for 2024.

Then Rahul was a failure at opening, had to get pushed to no 5.

I won't forget Dhawan's fastest test century on debut and his gum form for ct 2013 and 2015 wc. He's the reason why India won ct 2013 in the first place.(Till the finals atleast)

At their peaks that ODI top order of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli was formidable. Had a good tournament record as mentioned.

Lots of retirements recently. Hope he goes well.

He was awesome during the peak of his career but then just went into world of oblivion. Had a great career.

In a recent interview, former India opener Shikhar Dhawan admitted that he did not have the inspiration to play domestic cricket:

"I didn't want to play domestic cricket, which I started playing at the age of 18 or 19, and I didn't have that inspiration from inside to play that (form of) cricket,"

“If I look back, the last two years of my cricketing career, I wasn't playing much of international cricket and I was playing IPL to IPL, so I wasn't playing much of cricket (overall). I thought that, 'alright, I've played enough, and I need to give it a break because I'm not playing that much cricket, so you lose the touch as well,"

"I thought that continuing IPL and just coming up with two, three months of hard work won't be enough for me to go and play,”

Shikhar Dhawan said while talking to the official broadcaster of the Nepal Premier League in India:

“I’m excited to take part in the inaugural edition of the Nepal Premier League and turn up for the Karnali Yaks. Everyone has seen the passion that exists for the game in the country and this league will further help the game grow in the country."

“With top players from around the world coming to Nepal, the young players will learn a lot from their experience. I can’t wait for the first match and the action to get underway!"

Dhawan Rohit Kohli all had peak together and that was one heck of a top order. It was them or nothing for india but most often it was them taking them home comfortably.. hence amir's 2017 spell was great. Because if anyone could chase that total it was this top order

going to be one of the biggest league after IPL lol

Shikhar Dhawan, while talking to the local media:

“I started playing at a young age for a club, practiced for a year, and got to play a tournament after a year. For a year I used to perform various chores, like rolling the pitch, bringing tea for the coaches, and enduring long hours under the sun, all in the hopes of getting just 10 minutes to bat at the end of the day."

“I am standing at that juncture in my life where I can only see the past memories. My dream was always to play for India and it came true and for that I’m grateful to a lot of people. My family, my coaches Tarak Sinha and Madan Sharma, under whom I learnt to play cricket. Also my team, the people I played with for years. I got another family in them. I got fame and fortune and the love of everyone."

“But it’s important to turn the page to move forward in life and that’s why I am announcing my retirement from international and domestic cricket."
