West Indies superstar Dwayne Bravo has confirmed he will retire at the end of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

In August, captain Kieron Pollard announced Bravo had played his final T20I in the Caribbean.

Following his side's loss to Sri Lanka on Thursday, Bravo confirmed he would be hanging up his boots on the ICC's post-match Facebook Live show.

“I think the time has come," Bravo said. "I’ve had a very good career. To represent the West Indies for 18 years, had some ups and downs, but as I look back at it I’m very grateful to represent the region and the Caribbean people for so long.

"To win three ICC trophies, two with my captain (Daren Sammy) on the left here.

“One thing I am proud about is that the era of cricketers we had we were able to make a name for ourselves on the global stage."

A two-time T20 World Cup winner, Bravo has played 90 T20Is for the Caribbean outfit, taking 78 wickets and scoring more than 1000 runs.

The seam-bowling all-rounder made his international debut in 2004, going on to play 293 matches.

He will round out his career with a 294th match on Saturday when the West Indies finish their T20 World Cup campaign against Australia.

A T20 trend-setter throughout his career, Bravo has been one of the format's finest exponents of the slower ball and excelled at the death with both bat and ball.

In 2012, he was the man to take the winning catch when West Indies won the T20 World Cup for the first time and he was there again when they took out the tournament in 2016.

About time. Fine T20 ALR player. Probably not done as well as a t20I batsman than how he did in franchise leagues.

He has been a great servant to West Indies cricket. But, he is definitely past his expiry date.

A few other oldies should retire also.

Massive underachiever....he had potential to do much better in Test cricket

He is a 2-time World Cup winner (2012 and 2016) and 1-time CT winner (2004).

He should've played more games for West Indies.

Best of luck to him. I think he will feel some regret that he could have achieved more in the game but I think he will be able to get a couple of years more out of the Indian Pensioners League.

Sad to see him leave this way but his time is up - let some youngsters take his position

Gayle is a great all format cricketer and will walk away with pride I hope. Bravo, Pollard etc have won much in T20is (2x WC) so can be proud. Let a new generation come through. Go into retirement gracefully you Lions! ♥️

Right time to go. A very good t20 player. Big underachiever in ODIs and Tests especially in terms of batting.

Shouldve retired a while back from WI cricket
Just another one from WI who put personal success over whats best for WI cricket

Will always remember him not just for the 2-time championship he won but for the iconic "DJ BRAVO ... CHAMPION" song and dance

Finally WI cricket has a chance to flourish now that non serious and non committed cricketers like Bravo & Gayle are gone for good.

Its boils my blood when I see their giggling faces after every damn shameful defeat..

When they contributed to win two world cups did it boil your blood? That is a statement of an ungrateful person.:))):))

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has lauded Dwayne Bravo on his outstanding international career, during which time he helped win three ICC world titles as a member of the West Indies Men’s Team.

The star all-rounder, and former West Indies captain, announced his retirement from international cricket on Thursday. He indicated that the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be his last time in the West Indies jersey and he has officially confirmed this with CWI. Bravo made his international debut in April, 2004 against England in and ODI Guyana. His Test debut came in July 2004 against England at Lords. He also featured prominently in three world title triumphs – 2004 ICC Champions Trophy in England; 2012 ICC T20 World Cup in Sri Lanka and ICC T20 World Cup in India.

In addition to his world titles, his team role has evolved from the youthful dynamism and all round contribution with bat and ball to becoming one of the world’s leading white ball death bowlers and a valuable mentor for the next generation of West Indies players. Bravo has played 91 T20 Internationals, taking 78 wickets and scored 1,255 runs. He has also played 40 Tests and scored 2,200 runs – with three centuries and took 86 wickets. In 164 One-Day International appearances he made 2,968 runs and took 199 wickets.

In tribute to Dwayne Bravo, CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “On behalf of all West Indies cricket fans, I salute Dwayne on completing his illustrious international career. He performed admirably in all three formats and added value to all levels of West Indies cricket. He was a trailblazer in T20 cricket and set the standard for how the newest format of the game should be played. Dwayne’s talent, commitment, and dynamism thrilled fans of all ages and he was a star attraction for a generation of young cricket lovers. He excelled and demonstrated his immense prowess with both bat and ball and created a legacy of top-quality performances. He will always be a true West Indian champion and we thank you for that.”

Just imagine if Javed Miandad and Imran Khan were representing Pakistan in the 1999 WC. That would have ruined half of their legacies.

Thats what these two did. Just because you won a WC, it doesnt mean that you have the license to bring shame, sorry.

He used to be a fine cricketer around 2010, and a passenger from there on.
One of the most over-rated players and an unsurprisingly poor come back to the windies team.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has congratulated former West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo for an impressive career that saw him stand out across formats and taste great success in ICC tournaments over the years.

The 38-year-old all-rounder announced his international retirement after the team’s last Super 12 fixture against Australia in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Bravo played in two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, three ICC Champions Trophy tournaments and seven ICC Men’s T20 World Cups. He was part of the sides that won the Champions Trophy in 2004 and the T20 World Cups in 2012 and 2016.

ICC Acting Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said: “Dwayne has been an outstanding cricketer of his generation, who has been popular with fans the world over. He was successful in all formats and is part of an elite club of two-time World champions.

“His versatility and the experience of playing the world over have helped him gain immense understanding of the game and I hope he will be able to find ways to stay involved in cricket. On behalf of the ICC, I wish him all the best for the future.”

Bravo finishes with 2,200 runs and 86 wickets in 40 Test matches, 2,968 runs and 199 wickets in ODIs, and tallies 1,245 runs and 78 wickets in T20Is going into his final match.

Westindies players because of their fun nature and flair approach may not be taken seriously as cricket brains by some fans but Bravo seems to be an excellent coach. There is a reason he still has been kept around by CSK as coach. Pollard is another guy in demand for his coaching. Sammy also is a good coach. Gayle maybe an exception or in this case for that type though :gayle

Lets not forget, when Naseem was at his lowest where he fell out of favor with the PCB in 2021, Cricket fans and had suffered from Waqar's coaching where his pace was low and getting smashed around, it was his CPL stint under Bravo's captaincy where he got his confidence, self belief back and he came back to Pakistani Domestic Cricket and International Cricket as a much more confident, improved bowler. In a social media post, Naseem highlighted Bravo's captaincy and mentorship and credited him for his success.

That bluff against Muztafizur was awesome, the captain, bowler had placed a fielder for a bouncer and Naveen charged in and bowled at the stumps. Bravo was taught Afghani bowlers skill and game awareness.

The Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL) congratulates Dwayne Bravo on his fantastic performances with the tournament since its inception since 2013. The Trinidadian all-rounder has announced that this year’s CPL will be his last home event in a format that he has dominated.

Bravo has been part of five championship winning squads at the CPL claiming the title in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021 making him the most successful player in the tournament’s history. He is also the league’s leading wicket taker having claimed 128 victims across his illustrious CPL career.

Bravo’s last season will be with his home franchise, Trinbago Knight Riders, with whom he has won four titles. The first match of his final tournament will be on 31 August against the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, a team he led to their maiden CPL title in 2021.

Pete Russell, CEO of the CPL, said: “We are so grateful that Dwayne has been a part of our tournament since its inception in 2013 and his contribution to making the league what it is today is immeasurable. The CPL has become known around the world as the Biggest Party in Sport and Dwayne’s enthusiasm and amazing personality has done as much as anyone to bring that to life. We are certain that ‘Sir Champion’ will continue to play a massive role in T20 cricket going forward and we wish him all the best in the next chapter.”
