What's new

Shoaib Akhtar's comments on TV are regrettable

I think posters should ease up a little on axl100mph a little. His relative young and obviously followed cricket during Akhtar's era and will understandably have an affinity for him and be sympathetic to his views.

That said even though I don't thonk Ahktar is a malicious he is a spoilt child who never grew up and was never disciplined. He acts like a spoilt child even as he enters middle-age.

This much is evident from reading his book, where he paints himself as an eternal victim, never once acknowledging his many flaws. Like a spoilt child he will seek to draw attention to himself even if it is in an undignified manner.

I can see why fans sympathise with him because he constantly makes righteous statement in attempt his great character and noble attentions. However, it soon becomes clear that it is dolt rhetoric and that his actions never tally with it.

I also initially thought he was misunderstood too but realised he was just a spoilt brat who never grew up.

Shoaib maybe right on but even if he is, doesn't make sense to keep dishing out such things in front of Indian media (which I think is more disgusting than Pakistani one), after every 2-3 months.

If he has an opinion about earlier captains and players of Pakistan, doesn't mean that he keep throwing up that wherever he goes. Wasim has been working in India before Shoaib, and I am sure he must have his views, but he don't speak about them.

He definitely and desperately needs a filter in his mouth.

"Pakistani team awein hi hai serious nahi lena chahiye"

The Pakistan team isn't serious

"Saray Pakistani captain paindu thay"

All the Pakistan captains were paindu (I think that means villagers or something)

"Pakistan ke match ka faisla ground mein nai dressing room me hota tha"

Pakistan's match doesn't happen in faisla ground but in the dressing room

"Hahaha nai harsha Pakistan mein sab apne liye khelte hain, hum kabi ek team ho ke nai khele thay"

Hahaha no harsha, in Pakistan everyone plays for themselves. We never play together as a team

"Itne fixers thay team mein kya batau ab ap ko"

There were many fixers were in the team

"Mein sochta hun agar mein 92 mein khela hota to Shoaib Akhtar kya cheez hoti"

I think if I had played in 92 then Shoaib Akhtar would have been something else.

Thank you :boycott

I think as a long retired player, Shoaib has earned the right to speak his mind. Perception is reality and if he felt like this during his career, even if it was entirely in his imagination, it would have been 'real' for him.

3 months old interview. Did the OP just return from mars?

shoaib, moyo & afridi with these instincts you peoples never get any coaching contracts from any team no matter how much skillful you are, even professional peoples dnt want to see you near their team's dressing room. Your mouth is only capable to get the contracts of masala channels for some cheap $$$ but dnt even think that from this mouth bursting you can get a respectable work to serve this beautiful game. This is very shameful that peoples of your caliber are doing these things for bread & butter.

SHOAIB AKHTER IN AN INTERVIEW WITH HARSHA BOGLAY ON STAR SPORTS:
"Pakistani team awein hi hai serious nahi lena chahiye"
"Saray Pakistani captain paindu thay"
"Pakistan ke match ka faisla ground mein nai dressing room me hota tha"
"Hahaha nai harsha Pakistan mein sab apne liye khelte hain, hum kabi ek team ho ke nai khele thay"
"Itne fixers thay team mein kya batau ab ap ko"
"Mein sochta hun agar mein 92 mein khela hota to Shoaib Akhtar kya cheez hoti"

Very very poor stuff from akhtar . Utter disgrace . Rather pathetic . I was a huge fan of his bowling . I think country comes before for any player . Cheapest comments ever from akhtar.

I think most Pakistani player ex and current have no idea how to face media.IMO its in bad taste but i thought there was already a thread on it.

Well, looks like he is guilty of exposing drawing room talk on national television.

I am sure off the camera these guys speak like these in the same words in personal settings, Shoaib never learned what to say in front of TV and what to say behind the cameras.

So in your world if someone tells lies once, it means they will always lie? His comments about Sachin/Darvid were attention seeking lies however what he said here is pretty much universally known truth.

I mean are you going to deny that Pakistan has problems with fixing, infighting and selfish players? Arthur just pointed that out.

strange response, when it comes to sachin and dravid you chose to believe it's a lie but when it comes to Pakistan you say he's speaking the truth. Maybe you can agree and say what he's said here is an over exaggeration of the truth, just like sachin and dravid being scared was.

I knew Shoaib was a fool the first time I met him in the early 90s. Everything subsequently over the years has confirmed my opinion.
No point even paying attention to him. Sadly broadcasters always willing to give him a voice.

I hold him singly responsible for what happened with Sarfaraz.Someone should tell Akhtar what was he doing in 2003 WC when Sachin smashed him all over.Just for some views and to please his Indian audience he stoops so low.Only brags about his speed etc when he himself had disciplinary issues and terrible attitude.

No reputable cricket broadcaster wants to give Shoaib any sort of commentary or punditry gig so Bechara Shoaib is left with Geo or PTV where his fellow uneducated mates Yusuf and Abdur Razzaq reside.

Due to Shoaib's warped ego he feels he deserves better and is frustrated so he must make outrageous comments in order to remain relevant.

He can't even go to India anymore so dancing and clubbing with his one or two Bollywood mates is out of the question and he can't give his punditry on Indian channels either.

Now some bright spark has told Shoaib to make a YouTube channel and get hits. Granted he is getting hits but it's not without sheer bravado filled outrageous content. He knew the Sonali Bendre video would get hits.

He was badly exposed by an Indian reporter when he asked Shoaib why did he say Pakistan should bowl first against India but then did a U turn and said Paistan should have batted first.

So basically Shoaib is a very frustrated man after his cricket career ended.

He is what Pakistan media is. Rubbish but gets the TRP.

He doesn’t stop praising himself

I miss the days when daleri, jaanbaazi and badmashi was a regular sight in Pakistan cricket team lead by the fiercest fast bowler of all time.

So now we are going to criticise a legend like Akhtar for someone like Sarfraz?

Let me reiterate what Shoaib stated for good measure because I agree with him

"Pakistani team awein hi hai serious nahi lena chahiye"
"Saray Pakistani captain paindu thay"
"Pakistan ke match ka faisla ground mein nai dressing room me hota tha"
"Pakistan mein sab apne liye khelte hain, hum kabi ek team ho ke nai khele thay"
"Itne fixers thay team mein kya batau ab ap ko"

Massive respect to you Shoaib Akhtar

I am not a Sarfaraz fan but seriously when did Shoaib Akhtar become a legend, he was a good bowler who could be lethal on his day but no where near to be called a legend. The way he talks on Tv, he is the one who actually seems like a paindu..

The only reason Shoaib was able to bowl at 100mph (by the way Waqar Younis already hit 100 mph in the early 90s according to those that faced him) was because of his hyper extended elbow.

This is of course not his fault and Shoaib can't be blamed for this but this elbow enabled him to chuck his deliveries at a high pace. So he should consider himself lucky to have had a career.

And NO he wasn't a legend. The same fans that made Afridi a 'legend" did the same for Shoaib.

The true legends of Pakistan cricket are Imran, Miandad and Waqar.

PSA:
Everything Shoaib Akhtar is doing about establishing his brand. He will get some obvious things right, the rest is about self promotion

Might not be a ATG but definitely a Pakistan cricket legend. How is this something that is even up for debate? :)))

Even bumrah has a hyperextended elbow.

His patriotic/heroic mask is completely see though, always has been.. Im a massive fan of the Shoaib the bowler, but the fact is, he is and will remain a classic narcissist. Everything he does is self serving and egotistical.

Akhtar is a legend and Sarfaraz isn’t?

How many ICC titles does Shoaib have and how many does Sarfataz have?

Yes these days Malik and Shahid Afridi are legends of the game too... so that term is used to very frequently and profusely these days.

The term legend is not just cricketing skills these days, there are off the pitch antics, advertisements, celebrity power and reputation within the cricketing fraternity.

Afridi surpasses shoaib in all of those boxes...

The standards of Afridi and Shoaib's stardom can be judged by the fact that before the 2011 world cup, Afridi seemed to be appear in 4-5 advertisements featuring our team, while Akhtar was a side act in a Jazba song by Ali zafar where Afridi played the main act and Shoaib appeared for a 2 second clip at the end.

Sad Shoaib is being targeted for being factual i.e. Sarfaraz is Fat and unfit

That was the only clip I saw of Akhtar, and his retirement announcement didn't seem to gather that many reactions either.... I was kinda sad when Shoaib retired to such anonymity as a bowler it was sad to see him after the heights he soared to initially in his career.

Afridi is the only Pakistani Cricketer who is still receiving commercials in advertisements after retirement. He is without a doubt the most commercially successful Pakistani Cricketer we have ever had

So thats your criteria to determine who is a cricket legend? I guess in your opinion someone like Kallis, who never won anythng with his team is also not a legend, but Sarfraz is. Right?
aliasad1998 pass that book i recommended to you for understanding cricket to mr slog next

This guy is obsessed with Shoaib Malik and telling others to understand cricket. Mustn’t be taken seriously

Yea he captained Pakistan to two word titles

Akhtar sat out of world cups due to fake injuries to hide his drug abuse in 2007

Is the book called “the Hare Krishna’s guide to cricket”?

By this logic Amir is a bigger Legend than Waqar given his performance in the 2009 T-20 WC final and CT 2017 Final.

You can tell Shoaib been having a hard time making a living after cricket that’s why he uses click bait titles for his YouTube channel and is worried how many views he gets.
