Shoaib Malik captaincy - Performance Watch

Very true.

Even his team mates looked calmer today, more smiles, more relaxed and there was a sense of everyone knowing what they were doing without being shouted at.

have you heard any inside rumblings? from your sources?

Sound familiar?

2016 Manchester T20?

Captaining in one-off match is easy. You dont have pressure. You feel happy that you were the second in line. You are there to prove a point. Players like the refreshing change and respond. Hafeez also did excellent in one-off match against Aus but when he was the actual captain for a tournament he was embarrassing.

I have always liked Malik the captain since his stint with Sialkot Stallions going way back to 2006-2007. He groomed players like Haris Sohail under him. But if things dont get right Malik is not the right man. He resigned from captaincy of Karachi Kings on slightest of pressure and issues where he should have shown guts. He even deliberately lost a doemstic match when he was not happy with the umpires. Thats a sign of great weakness. You dont give up like that.

Anyways for a makeshift captain its ok to have him.

He lost the match deliberately so another punjab team can make it into playoffs...

He said he was unhappy with umpires thats why he lost the match deliberately.

Though he has a history of doing politics even in National team. So yeah cant rule out that.

Still losing the match deliberately like that was embrassing even if he had genuine concerns. You dont give up even if you were wronged.

To be in the team, you have to be able to justify through performance before you are even considered for captaincy. Both Sarfaraz and Malik fail that test.

it’s a no brainier..the guy is one of the most respected top level pros around with a wealth of experience ,hopefully he can take over on permanent basis 🤞🏽

Sarfaraz was obviously an upgrade over Azhar but we should have realized his lack tactics and shouting can only work in long term due to individual performances. Winning like that regularly as a team would always have been a difficult task.

Take a look at the best captains in the history of cricket Clive Loyd, Imran, Ponting, Dhoni etc. Were they shouting at their players every second ball. Even the teenagers are not spared by Sarfaraz.

Good captaincy to bring on Shaheen on to get a breakthrough

Yeah, good to continue with him, when saifi would have removed him. Or may have asked him to change his length to save runs

You knock Safi but he’s got a great record of defending decentish totals

Malik’s captaincy has been very good as he’s looking for wickets and kept the slip in. The bowlers have been off color so far not his fault

Bowlers not bowling to the field set for them.

Not much a skipper can do.

Guys what happened Malik was supposed to be our saviour from the evil Sarfaraz.

Check now.

Way too late....

Ridiculous to bring Shadab in before Imad or even Hafeez...

Steyn wasn’t economical either in the first 20 overs of Pakistan’s innings so I don’t buy that argument about bowlers not bowling to the field...

It was always a pace off of the ball wicket.

bringing himself to bowl is a totally saving himself move. Not sure about his position in ODIs so lets try my luck with bowling .. huh.. trolling pak cricket for 20 years and still doing.

Malik’s decision to open bowling was a disaster and just jet started the game. Not good captaincy and again bowling has been very poor to say the least

I just find it incredible that he opened the bowling today..
It came from nowhere and disrupted our usual pattern of bowling...

His captaincy was poor in the last ODI too... bowling Shadab ahead of Imad etc etc...

Malik isn't captaincy material for a Pakistani team, he'd be a good captain for England lol where there is alot more clarity on discipline and team roles and the captain can be more aloof and less in your face. Pakistani players need an aggressive captain who kicks them up the backside when they make mistakes, otherwise complacency sets in.

I also get the feeling that Malik is just doing this job out of courtesy to pcb, his hearts not really in, seems disinterested, however that isn't an excuse for not even bothering to set attacking fields.

Lol :)))
After one game all started to praise him players playing with smiles

Malik's 2019 captaincy tenure has killed two myths:

1) He was a great captain in the making between 2007-09 until he was removed.

2) He should be appointed captain at the 2019 World Cup.

He shouldn't be in the team let alone as a Captain.

His interview summed it up it's not about winning the series but testing the bench strength even if that were true you can't say that.

Gosh how can such experienced cricketer utter such garbage
Total loser comment .

Hilarious posts in this thread. I really had a good laugh lol.

In their hate of Sarfraz, posters were too quick to praise Malik after just one match.

Shoaib Malik after losing 2 matches:
"It's not about winning the series"

This is even funnier than the posts in this thread lmao

I mean if Sarfraz's competition is Malik, its not hard to come out on top.

Malik looks like he has been forced the captaincy because they wanted to rest Sarfraz and wanted an experienced campaigner.

He doesn't look at all cut for it.

He said around 2 years ago that he has no desire to lead any team any more but PSL teams and PCB don't seem to have gotten the memo.

Malik literally is the definition of a 'stand in' captain. If the performances go to the dogs, he'll say I'm just a stand in or we're trying out bench strength, that's why we've been so poor. The guy, even in the match he won as captain against South Africa, looked totally disinterested.

I also think that bench strength comment he made yesterday was what the management dictated to him to say if the opportunity arose, doesn't seem like something Malik would voluntarily say based on his past interviews.

pretty pathetic captaincy in the 3rd ODI. totally passive, letting the spinners go on and on, from over 15 to 35 (and beyond)
