Shoaib Malik: First Pakistan No. 5 ever to have a century in an ODI chase

And Dhoni does not have a single century outside Asia. Even Malik has done it at #5 now.

He is the second highest run-getter for Pakistan when batting at 5 or 6 behind Inzi.

Don Bradman :malik whenever playing against Zimbabwe, West Indies, Ireland or Kenya.

A total failure against the top sides or whenever the going gets tough.

These are the kind of players our people cheer now, clearly we're the minnow mentality country now. Below Bangladesh.

It shocks me how you can defend professor then bash Malik. Doesn't matter if professor plays pace better when he too has failed against quality pace and in tournaments. Plus he has feasted on minnows more than an recent pak player, why do you think he is so against playing down the order?

Both Malik and Professor have feasted on weak opposition and minnows.

On potential you'd back Hafeez to score more against opposition with good bowling attacks, especially those bowling at above 137kph.

There's very little separating the two, I don't think Hafeez is far better, just slightly.

Both need to be booted out. It's the Malik brigade who portrays him as our batting savior and the premier bat that we have.

We will remain minnows forever as long as Malik and Hafeez are cheered by the fans and the board.

How can you talk of potential when it comes to players who have been around for close to 20 years ?

You can only go based on performance in recent years and that shows that both are minnow bathers but that Malik has been doing more, at a quicker rate. Even against England, his 77 was crucial in our won win there chasing 300. Professor to played a good knock in Australia, but at a slower rate and after being dropped.

Both overall are incredibly similar, but there is very little difference. Plus I am majorly put off but that disgrace Professor did in the 1st ODI. Whatever Malik's numerous faults, he has not been selfish since his comebacl

He's won us matches in Eng and Aus. Harsh to say he's only feasted on minnows.

Not saying he's world class or anything but he definitely deserves a place in the team on merit..

Looks like he gets hate even when he performs. What was he supposed to do instead? Get out for ZERO?

As I've said a dozen times, bring the World XI to asia with the top notch players and he'll bash them like minnows, everyone has his her weaknesses and he isn't good on the bouncy tracks outside asia that sit!

Hafeez at the other end was phenomenal in the T-20 WC against the top teams and way better against Australia and England? Just in your dreams bro!

You should know by now that Pakistani fans will never be pleased. :yshah1

Indian fans are even harder to please. Even when Sachin was dominating the world back in the 90's till around 2002, and then from 2007 till 2011, Indian fans always had something to complain. The most ungrateful fans in the world are Indian fans.

I agree, however....while Kamran averages a beastly 22 against all sides minus minnows.

Shoaib Malik is a Pakistan ATG in LOIs.

He wishes.

Its expected given we've invested in Malik for 18 years. If only some of our youngsters had 18 years to prove their worth.

Let's see how Malik fares against TOP teams in the Champions Trophy, where he failed dismally in 2013.
Even Hafeez looks a semi-competent bat against our punching bags like West Indies, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.

Yes Malik performed in Cardiff v England but that was a dead rubber - where was he when the series was live ? Where was Malik in the Australia series ? He did his usual of doing just barely enough to keep his place, flattering to deceive, scoring one 40 at the MCG and failed in the rest.

I'll give him credit for maintaining his fitness and attitude. But if Hafeez and Malik are our "senior pros" in this team then god help us given their history of failure in pressure situations.

Malik was in Melbourne and winning the ODI match (not so called dead rubber).
He avg 68 in that series.
But Cricket is a team sport.

So Malik played 4 ODIs in Australia and performed in 1.

I'd expect better than 1 in 4 success from one of the senior pros who's been playing for 18 years.

I wonder who was playing as our number 5 in ODIs for the longest time in the past decade :13:

A vital part to our odi side.

Good fielder
A useful off spinner
Good fitness levels
Good at rotating strike and knows how and when to accelerate.

Haters can keep on hating. He merits a place in the team.

Anyone against Malik's inclusion at the moment is fried and does not support Pakistan, rather his favourites.

Malik is here to stay until the 2019 WC, after which he should (and probably will) hang his boots after being a very decent servant of the nation.

Well done, Shobby.

Malik has been a beast since his comeback. I was really against him making a comeback during his time out of the team, as he was really bad after 2009/2010. He has proven me completely wrong though. He has been a beast! Respect.

Sorry but Malik has to stay. He was decent against Australia with scores of 42* 39 47 10* and now he's performing again.

He's performed well since 2015 to be fair to him, and yes I don't see him doing so well against the best attacks in the world but we lack anyone better in his position. He can anchor the innings well and rotate the strike often, he has found form in the last 2 years.

All we can do is hope he'll do better at the 2017 CT, and seeing as he had decent (not the best but decent) numbers against Australia away and did perform at Cardiff, surely he can't do worse. His attitude and effort to keep high levels of fitness show promise though, hopefully he can go the extra mile.

It seems you are having some serious issues with Malik.

Ameen!

He has had a great career by most standards but I feel like he has underachieved a bit given his talent. His widerness years from 2009-15 dragged him down but atleast he has come by strongly towards the twilight end of his career.

At this point - he is still our best ODI batsman after Babar and understands the modern game like no one else in Pakistan. On top of that is an excellent leader and captain.

miandadrules - would you have anything to add to this thread?

31	31	10	1221	112	58.14	1206	101.24	2	8	0

The numbers don't lie. Malik has been impressive and done well against all teams he has faced. Whether he is gonna step it up at big stages like Champions Trophy and World Cup remains to be seen but so far he is doing pretty well.

Those who bash him scoring against minnows alone, let him play couple of series against better teams. He's def. capable to score against them too.

malik , hafeez , shahzad , Akmal , all these should be out of side . You need to get fresh blood in and try and build a side for future instead of being happy with performance against lower tier teams.

He might be only player to score century in every positions. Grooming the future means nothing if Pakistan is not playing in WC. Pakistan needs to win to qualify. Grooming should not compromise the priority of winning.
