What's new

Shoaib Malik : The most naturally gifted Pakistani batsman of recent times?

I already have an Imran Farhat Vol.2 support thread.

lol

But then, i also have support threads for Ishant Sharma & Dhawan and supported Jadeja when he hadn't come off age.

I think you need to start an Ishant Sharma support thread, seems like he needs it more.

I think you need to start an Ishant Sharma support thread, seems like he needs it more.

I think he is just fine for tests and ODIs where pitches are supportive. T20s and ODI lat pitches arent for him.

Umar Akmal is 10x more naturally gifted batsman we had. Malik wasn't as talented as Umar Akmal. Even Kamran was more talented. Malik made the best out of whatever talent he had though. Only if Umar Akmal and Kami worked as hard as Malik they would have been better players than their stats show.

Also a proven leader!

Stallions kicking it in the domestic T20 as always. Its no coincidence, its the Shobby effect.

Request to mods.

Since he was run out tonight, please don't allow hateful trolls to post BS on his support page. Thanks in advance.

He was looking good but unfortunately got run out. It shows that 3 or 4 is more his position in limited overs cricket. He is not suited for the end overs.

I hope haroon rashid gives him 3more int games to perform with bat. If he doesn't only than drop him.

malik is my hero, started playing cricket by watching him

In T-20, all overs are end overs. If he were up the order, with 170 to chase, he could have derailed it all.

You need people who can pierce the field or hit over the top. He was good once, granted, but so was Sobers. Both can't make their teams.

shoaib malik should be made pakistan t-20 captain , the way he won sialcoat the title he would do same for pakistan.

If Umar,Harris,Maqsood and shoaib's all of them should bat at 3 or 4....then who will bat at 5,6 or 7.

That is exactly why we should play the right players for the right positions. People like Hammad, Maqsood, Bilal Asif are needed at those positions. Simple, no?

Better not play Malik if he is going to bat at 6/7. You need dynamic players at these positions. Malik is an accumulator who has kept the balance in batting for several teams this way.

Knock Knock!

Haters!

Where are you? :) Finally Shobby turning it on in his majestic style. Easily the most good looking Pakistan batsman since Yousuf.

Good to see my favorite young cricket from the early and mid 2000s doing so well

Sadly, many have posted enough poor posts that they can't man up and acknowledge their countryman today.

This is what happens when you give a player a fair chance at their best batting position. Yet people only blamed Malik for not doing well in the death overs which never has been his best position.

Showing his class after the discriminatory team management demotes him from his earned #3 slot.

At the moment he easily makes the team ahead of Hafeez. In fact i think Sohaib Maqsood replacing Shafiq and some other guy (i don't know who) replacing Hafeez would make this a pretty decent line up.

Azhar Ali
Sarfraz
Hariz
S Malik
xyz
Maqsood
H Azam

Should be the order. Sami Aslam could come in and Sarfraz moves down... That looks a decent mix of stabilizers and aggressors.

Also i caught the last 10 overs.. Shoaib Malik seems to be enjoying his cricket, looks very confortable with Haris and he seemed to be smiling all the time

Because he is urban unlike 90% of Pakistani cricketers.

Malik and Haris have great chemistry. This combination can do wonders for our middle-order going forward.

LOL, i am not sure what that meant. But do you think Malik has another 3-4 years in the tank?
Might get to 8000 runs and 200 wickets, which isn't bad at all.
The question though is, does he have it in him to a) be consistent over 3-4 years and b) Make an impact on a world cup?

That is the feeling i got too Mamoon. Somehow they looked absolutely relaxed out there. Something that has not happened with Pakistan batsman in a long long time. Even against Zimbabwe or the likes. (No disrespect to them)

These two seem to have the game to play the accumulators/stabilizers. With a strong 2 aggresive batsmen to come after these, PLUS Azhar and Sarfraz, this might make Pakistan a top 5 side again.

Unlike most of the other Pakistani cricketers, Malik is current and up to date. He knows the importance of fitness, exercise, diet etc. and is a proper athlete. The fact that he got married to a tennis star has also helped him. He definitely has 4-5 years left in the tank.

The best thing about their partnership is the strike rotation. They have played together for years at domestic level and it has helped them. Perhaps they need to be played at consecutive positions.

Yes. Haris at 3 and Malik at 4 should be it. Haris shouldn't be floated around.

Plus, i am not sure if the Pakistan supporters are realizing how much better it is for them with Afridi gone. Was taking up a crucial spot with zero performances.

Malik is doing well to cement a place in the side. Glad, he is slowly proving me wrong; hopefully be can prove this quality against top sides with more consistency. He is showing more authority now. Could be a valuable asset.

He's a true role model for young asian cricketers. Has fought many challenges to get to the top, and is blessed in every facet of the game, whether it's batting, bowling, fielding, you name it. The fact that he has batted from all positions from #1 to #11 shows how much of a team player he is, putting the team in front of his own interests, a real team man. Will go down as an Asian ATG.

Would be the first name down for the team sheet of any XI, yet his countrymen don't give him the respect he deserves. He's the true dark knight, Pakistanis don't deserve him, but they need him.

Summarized beautifully.

Shobby has been out and been discriminated for too long but never made poor statements in media. Attitude has been top notch,

He has been in great form in domestic cricket including CPL and BBL so it is no surprise to see him do so well in international cricket now. Even in test cricket he should come in to the team as soon as either Younis or Misbah retire.

We all seem to have a soft spot for Malik, can't quite pin point why.

Once he was our best bat after Inzi in ODI's. Obviously people will wonder why he cant do it again after doing awesomely well in domestic and thus be willing to give him a last go.

Shobby showing his touch of class once again. Smooth operator :raja

In this game maybe yes, because he is the best against spin bowling and Bangalis have like 5 or 6 spinners bowling in parts. But in general Malik is a smart customer who knows how to build an innings unlike many of our young batsmen who get starts and then throw it away.

Our people do not realise that these are the best we have got. It's either Malik or the likes of Saad Nasim. Take your pick.

Told you so.

Flawless batting by Shobby in the crucial overs. This is why I value him. Its all about being in the zone for him, once he is comfortable out there he is a free flowing batsman.

Also one of the rare good looking Pakistani batsmen. Most of your lot has ugly playing style. Butt, Shobby, Yoni the only batters who look class.

I'm lost for words.

Did you say he scored a 50?

Not many have done that.

He now has a sensational average in Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.

No.

But I am currently watching an innings that might be worth shouting about. Put things in to perspective.

Well watch it before making disparaging remarks. Only two Pakistani batsmen actually looked like batsmen out there today, Shoiab and Rizwan were comfortably the best out there today against some disciplined and tight SL bowling.

Why don't you concern yourself with what you post and I'll do like wise. We've established on numerous occasions that I don't care much for your opinion or what you may define as disparaging.

I'm not going to hold a player who has played for 15 years to the same standard to players who have yet to even establish themselves.

You are right. We should drop Shoaib and draft in the SL opener into our team instead.

No we should keep a player who averages 3 in New Zealand and 8 in England.

We should regard Malik's innings as being against a world class bowling attack on a minefield.

We should totally forget that he failed to kick on after getting a start and left the task to a batsman in his debut year.

You didn't watch the game, and are assuming his innings was poor because the SL opener tonked our pace attack all over the ground. Got it.

Where have I said the innings was poor?

To say that this innings silences his critics is absurd but that doesn't mean it was poor. However, rational thought has never been your strong suit.

Yes, of course deriding a Pakistan player on the basis that a Sri Lankan player has smashed our bowling is much more rational. Do yourself a favour and wait until Malik flops at least before making such idiotic statements.

:)) +1
miandadrules embarassing himself as usual. Fan boy of a retired player :))

Can't argue with your judgement. Your an expert in the field.

It's spelt embarrassing.

Give one example of my fan boyism.

Hahahahahhaha. Trying to act all clever by correcting my spelling mistakes by making one yourself. It is you're :) :))

And your username.

Don't concern yourself with my favours.

Obviously, you seem to have a little difficulty following a chain within a thread. Your bosom buddy mentioned me in his post and suggested that this innings had silenced his critics. Which it obviously didn't.

Then I mentioned an innings being played on the same surface against a superior attack which would have gone some way in addressing the criticisms levelled at Malik.

As for your passive-aggressive tone, don't concern your little brain with my "idiotic" statements as we both know that I don't hold your opinion in very high-regard, and your feeble effort at wit a little nauseating.

Do you have a reference from a reputable dictionary on the spelling of it?

What about my username?

I don't give a crap about what you think of my opinion, just pointing out that using an opposition player as a yardstick to bash on a player who has played a good innings is not really of much use to us since we can't draft the Sri Lankan batsmen into our side. Unfortunately we have to work with what we've got. Don't take everything to heart, I don't know who you are neither do I give a crap. It's about the cricket.

Once again you are having trouble following a logical train of thought.

1. I never disparaged the innings. I disparaged the notion that this innings had silenced his critics. Can you appreciate the difference?

2. Then I pointed out an innings that could go a long way in silencing the naysayers.

If you can't see things in the context of the thread, we will be going around in circles.

I'm not taking things to heart. I'm just clearing up any ambiguity that I care very little for your "ambush" posting style.

I'm sorry but miandadrules is owning people here. Malik played well and contrary to what trolls think i want him to do well because he is representing my team; but the reaction of a 51 on here from some is like he has scored 151.

Good innings but please have some perspective. Too many humble pie fans on here who just "want to be right" as opposed to taking things for what they are.

sorry but he did score 150. You need to stop hating the legend. Great innings. Pity you missed another one miandadrules. Im starting to doubt your Malik fan credentials.
