Shoaib Malik vs Extreme pace - Is he getting better with age?

Hm?

It was absolute torture when he was batting today. Dodging deliveries and playing his only 2 shots against the pacers: leg side flick OR a cut to the 3rd man.

Now the torture is over, he got out.

The bottom two are extreme pace? Malik is and alwys has been poor against pace. He can’t play it. Let’s not even talk about his record against pace in England. Heck as I type this the extreme pacer has gotten him. Sooner we get rid of Hafeez and malik and build a side for the years to come the better.

The top 2 arent. And he was run out today.

These are slow pitches.

The real test against pace is in places like South Africa against guys like Steyn and Rabada bowling 145kph plus. Then we will see what these guys are made of.

Why wait, we already know what Shoaib Malik is made of against genuine pace. To be precise he is a sitting duck against any decent pace bowler. He should be dumped now so that we can plan for 2019 World Cup.

Today’s innings was nothing new Shoaib goes missing more often than not against countries with decent pacers I can’t think of half decent match winning innings he’s ever played against the likes of England South Africa Australia or Nz

Pace or spin against the best teams Malik has never been a match winner never will be expect him to go missing.

Always thought he is pretty average against quality pace bowling.especially against bowlers who test him with bouncers at 85-90 mph.it often irritates me when I see Indian playing eleven with more than one spinner against Pakistan with Malik in the middle order as he is superb against spinners.

I think we have > 15-year-careers of both malik and hafeez to know what’s gonna happen there

And that time is here - seems to be doing ok.

Struggling as usual, how come it's OK?

Thee only thing he's been able to do vs pace here is cut Olivier to the 3rd man.

The ONLY shot he can play against pace..

Whats your definition of struggling? Has he been dropped, hit on the helmet, dived for cover?

Struggling to time the ball, or do any sort of accelerated scoring placement.

And there you go.. out.

He was out due to his own mistake and not due to fear etc which you seem to imply.

His inability is costing us.

In situations like these when pacers bowl the last few overs, and we have a shot at winning, him being a dud, so clueless against pace bowling is extremely worrying.

Can't even put bat on ball, let alone hit pace bowling for boundaries/sixes.

A single or double just won't do the job.

This simply cannot work. So poor.

Malik is ageing like Dhoni, unfortunately neither of them could hit against good fast bowlers. Dhoni being a smarter player, finds ways to score runs but Malik just can't.

Dhoni at one stage could actually score and hit boundaries off the pacers.

Malik never was able to do it.

Dhoni used to be a beast against fast bowling.i don't know what people are on about. In terms of Malik he can nudge the ball on the leg side or dab it to third man of pacers that's all.

A liability in the team, hope we discard him before the WC else we're doomed

It appears to me that Shoaib Malik would perform just a liitle below requirement, no matter what the requirement. For instance, if required run rate is 13, he will score ten. If required run rate is 16, he will score 13. In the end the team would be short by seven runs.

So just enough to keep his place in the side?

Malik played it to a tee yesterday, he got nothing from Imad faheem and Asif and Hasan. They hit one boundary each. All that was needed was to be judicious on which ball to hit and they were not. Had they been, we would have needed 10 or 12 off the last over n it is a different game

Big test for Shoaib Malik vs pace today - lets see.

Didn't watch the game how did he look Markhor Mamoon is he in good touch, middling it ?

Looked the best player out there by a long way, even with his limited range of shots. Uses his cricketing brain to find angles, and is brave enough to hit the ball hard when needed.

He isn't getting better against good pace. But after his 20 years of experience, he is expected to use that in his game. He predicts the bowler. Mostly when he is looking to go big. He knows his strength and weaknesses.

But can be worked out. England did bowled him where he wanted them to

Played really well. The "he averages 13 in England" crowd were quite shocked by his display. A very tame dismissal though, could have taken the total over 350.

Quite a headache for Arthur and Sarfaraz now. Malik, Hafeez, Haris and Asif have all performed.

I'm still not convinced by Asif, he looked nervous before getting out, but we will have to include him in the team simpl because no one else can hit the ball hard.

That's good news because he has not looked to be in his best form and I feared his purple patch from 2015 was over, if he can take confidence from this and build on it hopefully he does well in the WC

He is the type of guy who will make you nervous while you watch him bat but it's a gamble and the type of cricket he plays is so important right now especially on these pitches
