Should Mohammad Amir play the World Cup?

He is a garbage player. Should never play for Pakistan again in Tests or ODIs.

And don't give me that nonsense about "him being Pakistan's best bowler in SA tests". NO. he was bowling slow and unimpressive, but just picked up some tailender wickets in an unimpressive fashion - it was not impact bowling.

As for ODIs, completely useless, he can't take wickets at all.
 
He's been really mediocre this PSL. I'd rather have someone like Abbas with the new ball.
 
He does not deserve to be selected on current form but will be selected based on past performances.
 
There is no way he won't go.

People will give the much used and abused arguement of the Champions Trophy final 2017.

No chance at all of that happening. Zero.

They'd probably compromise on Junaid Khan, to let Amir play...
 
He can play the container role well in the middle but his spot should not be guaranteed. If he performs poorly in the first two games then he should be replaced with someone else.

Wahab absolutely doesn't belong in that list - and yes Amir is definitely better than Wahab.

But your overall question about Amir in WC in valid. Hassan and Shaheen and top 2 pacers, and Faheem takes the 3rd spot with the little all-round abilities he brings. I think Abbas, Husnain, Shinwari and Amir are going to be battling it out for the last 2 spots.

Unless Husnain or Abbas do something really dramatic in the Aus / Eng series, or if there is an injury to someone else, I see Hassan, Shaheen, Faheem, Amir and Shinwari at WC
 
He should, but the notion that he is a big match/tournament player is a myth that will eventually be debunked.

He is an okay bowler who can be brilliant on his day, that is all.
 
He should he's good enough to be in the team. His performances are undermined because they aren't as good as people expect and ppl expect too much. He's a top 5 pacer in the country for sure
 
Yeah he should unless he has a horrible ODI series vs Aus/Eng.

I would play Amir, Hasan, Shaheen and Imad every WC game and Shadab/Faheem depending on the match.
 
what matters is performance in clutch games.
2009 T20 - amir first over wicket maiden.
2016 T20 against india defending 83 - 3 wickets to save us from a huge embarassment.
2016, 2018 Test matches in England where he got key wickets at key times.

Most importantly, 2017 CT - final as well as Sri Lanka game.


We need the experience, his batting and bowling in WC

Good enough to warm the bench. Hasan and Shaheen are a lock, third seamer will probably be Junaid, or maybe even Hasnain, depending on how they perform against Australia.
 
Should be in the squad but his place in the starting XI should not be guaranteed.

What makes you think your opinion is in any way superior to mine? I don’t think Amir deserves his place on current form; his performances have been worrying most experts for well over a year; his pace is down and he’s lost the ability to swing the ball. And yes, he’s been outshone in the Mickey Mouse league by his peers.
 
Quite surprised this thread was started and the question was asked. Obviously he should be in squad, Him Hasan Ali and Shaheen are our 3 best fast bowlers. Dont have short memories and discount the guy on PSL performance, it wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either...by a long shot. I am hoping he will regain his top form in England pitches
 
He will play.

Proven experience in the finals (multiple times). They'll never leave him out and rightly so.
 
I would be extremely glad if he doesn’t. He’s capable of bringing absolutely carnage in first spell.

If Pakistan flop and he is not around, the coach's position and chief selector's job will be under huge threat.

True, Amir’s biggest problem has been lack of hunger. Who knows the big WC stage might bring back the best in him.
 
Be should be in the WC squad for sure. Being a starter depends on how he does against the Aussies later in the month. I have always said that he is incredibly overrated.

We will be playing about a dozen ODIs ahead of the WC. Even if he failed more than 50% of the time, he WILL get selected and why not? He has been our goto guy and not playing him will put selectors in a bigger conundrum. Even if Hasnain or Rauf or both get selected in the WC squad, electing to go with them over Amir in a pressure game, say against Ind, will be a huge risk. His resume' in top class cricket is great. NOT happening!
 
We have 4 better pacers than him at the moment so his place in the final xi shouldn't be guaranteed at all. Heck even Fahim is a better and a faster bowler than him now days
 
Aamir is an average bowler who has the ability to occasionally (like once a year) bowl some unplayable wicket taking deliveries that deceive you into thinking he’s a great bowler.

Mohammed Sami was similar in that he was also an average bowler overall with occasional glimpses of greatness but then in between he gave such immaculate displays of B-grade bowling (where B stands for Baqwaas) that it would make you forget any special wicket taking delivery he ever bowled.
 
In squad yes but in playing X1 on rotation basis.

I will start with Hasan, Shaheen, Hasnain and Faheem.

I have seen that if Amir is dropped for some matches than when he comes back he bowls better.

The difference being Sami could lose you matches with his erratic bowling, while Amir still has some purpose as a workhorse.

However, it's evident Hasan and Shaheen are better than Amir at this stage.

If you are playing 4 seamers it means pitch is assisting pacers and spinner is there to support. Imad us much better with his economy on most occasions and top of that he is reliable batsman than Shadab and Faheem at the moment. Faheem and Shadab should be rotated according to the conditions.
 
In form and in rythm Amir can win you a match especially in conditions like England.

Also considering how inexperienced our bowling attack and team as a whole is except the obvious seniors we need someone as experienced as Amir in bowling department.

Yes his last year in ODIs has been terrible but as I have said time and time again the ups and downs are part of every athlete’s career but you dont drop your key players just before an event like the world cup.

Unless he does terribly in Aus series he will surely be going in the WC because of what he can do.
 
He should be treated at par with the likes of Rahat Ali, Mohd Irfan, Sohail Khan, Usman Shinwari, Wahab Riaz i.e. dropped after not delivering for 2-3 games rather than given unlimited chances. Have to be fair to the other bowlers.

The role of a strike bowler is to consistently get wickets, not bowl like Zulfiqar Babar
 
I think if you pull out his ODI bowling stats since his comeback and especially since the CT Final in 2017, you will find the answer to this thread. Sadly people live on myths and illusions rather than facts

Amir is the most inpactfull PAK bowler of the last 10 years and that includes a 5 year ban....
 
Amir will not only fly to England he will be one of the first names on the team sheet for every single match barring injury or severe drop in form. Karlo jo karna hai.




Thank God our team management isn't comprised of PP'ers otherwise every match would have 7-8 new debutants.
 
It's one thing to perform in the PSL and another to do it in an ICC tournament final. Lots of players fold under the pressure.

Amir doesn't.

Forget rising up to the occassion, many bowlers (especially younger players) fail to sustain what they're good at as soon as the trophy is in sight.

This alone makes him an easy pick.

Yes definitely, even at his down fall he is the best bowler in Pakistan.
