What's new

Should Pakistan accept Indian aid for the flooding victims?

wow Zardari and Co actually do the right thing. I'm shocked.

lets now hope that it actually goes to the victims and not to MR.10%.

What a co-incidence (as usual)...the American John Kerry visits and suddenly they decide to accept now?
Same old story...nothing to do with the Ghaddari Government doing the 'right thing' my man

Well, this is good news.

I wonder what made them accept it? They seemed quite unwilling at the start for reasons only known to them.

You are probably right, Mohsin.

John Kerry's visit most certainly could have played a role. Plus, the phone call from Manmohan Singh.

I am glad Pakistan accepted the aid finally. Though I believe India was not really pro-active and took a long time to offer the aid. So it was hesitation from both sides ... India was reluctant to offer and Pakistan was reluctant to accept.

Anyways, all is well that ends well. Lets hope, the aid is used effeciently and helps save many lives in this crisis.

The hesitancy is expected; the nature of the relationship between both is such.

I am glad Pakistan accepted the aid. I am glad India offered it, as well.

Looks like India is waiting for Pakistan acknowledgment and applause rather than a genuine desire to help. There are various ways India could donate without waiting for Pakistan's approval if it was genuine moved by the crisis, like donating to the Red Cross or the UN (like many Western countries do when crises hit their adversaries like Iran). Stop playing games India as usual!

Absolutely disagreed with you.
Such an act should be publicized. The world, the Pakistanis should know India helped ! That'll make some of the people realise how good things can be with us and we're not always enemies
And we dont seek any brownie points there, its just an act of goodwill.
You're being too thankless, thats the reason why these things are made public. Keep your attitude please
Accept it it not, we're willing to help being good neighbors.

So India offering 4 peanuts now ......
==> $ 5m == 1 peanut
==> $ 20m == 4 peanut .... :D

I am glad India offerred additional 20m. Honestly 5m really felt like half-hearted help and more like a formality.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone sitting behind his keyboard from the comfort of home in "the west" still posts "We don't need it! We shouldn't have accepted it !!".
And my reply is "Calm down ! It's not for you. "

What logic from our esteemed posters!

India should swallow its anger over the Bombay attacks and keep sports separate from politics they said but Pakistan cannot accept Indian aid because of 'other' reasons and many here are supporting this.
1/5 of the country is under water, our natural friends arent helping, get any help from anywhere and keep politics out, separate from aid relief.

Shame on our Indian Govt,

if the pakistani govt is reluctant to accept the Aid... Why offering more to them than why not spend on your own people who are suffering in Leh and other areas ...

Because India-Pak are "politically" enemies. We don't mind if we have to bomb each other's cities if we are at war. But during such crisis it is India's duty to help the people in trouble - irrespective of nationality.

I am sure as long as there is a democratic Govt. in Pakistan and if the crisis had hit India, Pakistan would have extended a helping hand too.

As far as Indians suffering in Leh, these two are separate topics and hence exclusive.

As far as Leh is concern ..our PM already given a statement that each n every family will get newly build house in 4 or 6 months ..n rescue work is in full swing....

82pc Pakistanis back global aid, 57pc reject Indian help

KARACHI: Most Pakistanis favour getting international aid for flood victims, however, they reject it when it comes to India.

In a Gallup Pakistan survey carried out from Sept 1-16, 2022, 1,000 participants were interviewed. Of them, 82 percent of them welcomed international aid with 47 percent backing the idea of getting Indian aid while 57 were opposed to it.

Interestingly, a total of 57 percent expressed resolve to help flood victims through donations while 43 percent of them to donate. Surprisingly, 18 percent of them opposed getting international aid for flood victims.
