Should Pakistan be embarrassed by the 2020/21 tour of New Zealand in light of Bangladesh's Test win?

Pakistan played 2 test matches in New Zealand last year and lost both heavily. There were some individual stand out performances from Fawad, Rizwan etc. However as a team Pakistan were found wanting. Now Bangladesh have shown that New Zealand can be beaten on home soil and moreover Bangladesh were the last team expected to defeat NZ in a test match in NZ.

Why were Bangladesh able to pull off what Pakistan couldn't since 2011?

Nothing to be embarrassed about.

New Zealand are a tough team at home. I think only Australia and India can win a series there currently.

Not sure Pan were favourites on tour but, What’s more shocking is that the team widely regarded as the best of their era etc and what not failed to beat a team which was destroyed by BD, I would favour BD over Inds right now.

India lost the WTC though, they choke under pressure, also don’t forget 152-0 may have caused some psychological damage

You are right. But, I think India are much better in Test than in LOI.

Ind-NZ in Test can go either way.

i think the question should be should NZ be embarrassed first defeat in 10 years to a team thats not AUS/INDIA

Why? Cricket is not a circular logic even though fans use it at times.

Pakistan should judge itself based on the sustained performance of 4-5 years. Not by one test win or loss. Here it is even more extreme, a single test has no involvement of Pakistan. Why will Pakistan feel embarrassed? Does not make any sense.

I was waiting for these threads. Luckily we handled Bangladesh quite well a month ago in two tests. So the posters that usually love these x beat y so they are better than z (pak) threads are mostly giving it a rest for now.

No Pak shouldn't be embarrassed.
Give some credit to BD folks they played great.

The Pakistani pace attack featuring Shaheen, Hassan Ali would have done much better there. Naseem was struggling with rhythm, confidence after Waqar tinkered with his run up. Abbas was playing purely on reputation and had gotten on a bit. We lost primarily because of our insipit batting. Don't forget that even a full strength India lost 2-0 to NZ as well.

Don't forget Pakistan has won in NZ in 1993, 1994, 1995, 2011. It is not something new for us

Misbah and Waqar should be embarrassed at applying for these jobs

Lol. Pakistan whites hashed Bangladesh a month ago.
Pak should take pride in own results and not be embarrased about others achievements. What a weird thread.

No, they should not. Pakistan just had embarrassed us on our home soil by comprehensively beating us. No compare please. These kind of comparing just will embarrass us as Pakistan is quiet superior to us as a test playing nation

Excellent win for Bangladesh but please Pakistan finished in in a couple of days recently.

Bangladesh played well and deserve the praise. However people are getting carried away. This is only the only victory by BD against a decent team.Their previous four overseas victories were against Sri Lanka,Zimbabwe and West Indies so BD has a long way to go.When BD starts beating other higher ranked teams(away from home)then it will be fair to regard it a good team.

Interestingly Pakistan has played 33 Tests in NZ and won 10, lost 9 and drawn 14.

However the last time Pakistan won a Test in NZ was January 2011.

Pak normally perform well when touring NZ. We will do them at home with plenty to spare. We owe them and England that for them pulling out of the Pak tour last year like cowards. I am glad that Bangladesh put NZ in their place too.

That was not the only embarrassment we had due to coach Misbah until he was shown the door.

The only thing embarrassing is few Pakistan fans viewing Pakistan's success/failures only in comparison to India/Bangladesh. As if, if you do better than these 2 all is okay if not all hell breaks loose.

Move on from this mentality.

There's also matches where a lot of things go right for you and you win a match you shouldn't be winning. That's sport, it happens.

For Pakistan, they need to establish a core bowling attack that is consistent. Sometimes Abbas is back and playing, sometimes he is not. Sometimes it's Imran Khan or players like Musa playing when they have no business of playing. All the top teams have a consistent bowling attack and how they're going to attack and get the opposition out. Pakistan in recent times, particuarly that Australia & NZ tours were horrific with scrubs playing. PCB couldn't convince Wahab & Amir to join those tours and Hasan was injured at the time so it was just a poor attack selected.

Lately, the bowlers picked & used have been more consistent with Shaheen/Hasan/Faheem being a mainstay part of the attack and depending on conditions, it's Abbas being picked or two spinners if it favours those conditions. It's also a pretty inexperienced bowling attack still but it should make for a experienced and a much better attack next time they visit NZ/Australia.

Pakistan also need to make sure they arrive in SENA tours with enough time to get used to the conditions and having a couple of practice matches.

"If X could do it and you could not, shame on you"

Man you guys sound like typical Asian Parents.

People need to realize this is an anomaly. Not the first time a strong team has over confidentally under estimated a weak team. NZ will come back hard in the next game

Abbas is finished. Pakistan needs to move on from him. His economical look good do nothing bowling exerted pressure on the other pacers to strive for wickets due to which they leaked runs

No, a year is a long time in pro sports. Pakistan and NZ aren't the same team from a year ago.

No, of course not.

This was a special game.

We should all give credit to Bangladesh for an excellent Test match performance in all of the cricketing aspects.

I have two words for you.
Harris
Sohail.
how on earth did that mental midget make the squad, let alone the first XI.

We also had our keeper standing up to Mohammad Abbas bowling gentle unthreatening slow medium dibbly dobblers, with Naseem Shah bowling filth and releasing the pressure, with Yasir Shah being toothless as usual.

Team Selection is as usual horrible,
we continue to see this. we select 2 frontline bowlers for home games, we only have two decent test fast bowlers in Hasan ALi and Shaheen, should we go overseas were we need 3 or even 4 frontline fast bowlers, we will be stuck playing rookies and debutants. its embarrasing.

played only 4 test matches in NZ in that period. In 10 years.

We used to regularly beat NZ at their home. That stopped once Misbah took over.
