Tomorrow is the last day of the Pakistan camp.

The national squad will practice from 8 pm to 11 pm tomorrow.
All the best to PAK new look and young team. Even if they loose some matches, it would be better to continue them so that they can gain experience and learn to manage the stress and pressure, which is different from playing domestic and PSL games. Don't think that we are lecturing as if we are the number 1 team, but this is the way that a new team has to be built. Give them confidence, nurture them and see the results. Once again all the best.

Shahid Afridi, while addressing the media during an event here, highlighted the lack of experience in the squad:

“I had suggested after the Chairman Trophy that some players, whether it be Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, or anyone else, should be rested. Your top domestic performers should be given opportunities, but these should be players who have consistently played domestic cricket for 4-5 years. I wasn’t talking about players who have only 10 or 11 first-class matches under their belt. Now, players with only 10 or 11 first-class games are being sent to difficult conditions like New Zealand. Team selection should be done based on the tour, the conditions, and the opposition. For instance, where we needed four spinners, we played only one or two, and where one or two spinners were sufficient, we sent four. This highlights the significant role of the selection committee, and I have consistently emphasized the importance of strengthening the bench. In situations where Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, or Mohammad Rizwan aren’t available, there shouldn’t be a problem; your bench should have capable players ready to represent Pakistan.”

“The other day I came across a clip where Mohammad Yousaf was teaching a player that an off-stump ball should be played on the offside and a middle-stump ball should also be played straight. It seemed as though this was an under-14 team, not the Pakistan team. The Pakistan team is a place for performance, not for learning and teaching. These things should happen earlier.”

“Players in other systems emerge with proper development, but we don’t have any such structure. A player who has been playing domestic and first-class cricket for five or six years—where is he? They are given 2-3 chances and then sidelined. On the other hand, we keep bringing in new talent after new talent without ensuring it is capable.”

“Usman Khan and Mohammad Hasnain were selected in the Champions Trophy but where they should have been included, their names weren’t even on the team list. Usman Khan has been sitting on the bench for ages, so first, he should get a chance before others like Hassan Nawaz or Abdul Samad. Give a chance to those who truly deserve to play.”

“Go out there with positive intent; singles and doubles also count. Avoid dot balls, rotate the strike, and hit boundaries—it’s all part of positive intent. Everyone tries to be a Shahid Afridi, but the point is that you need to approach things properly and respect good bowling. Not every pitch produces 200 runs.”

“Not just a permanent head coach; but we also require a chairman who stays in his seat and holds things steady. Babar Azam was given four years of captaincy—a good and fair chance. On the other hand, Mohammad Rizwan was removed as T20 captain after barely six months, even though he won ODIs and matches in New Zealand. How can anyone take on responsibility when they don’t know how long they will hold their position? It becomes impossible to execute a plan under such uncertainty.”
