Should Pakistan engage Gary Palmer to coach Amad Butt, Faheem Ashraf, etc.?

We have seen that Gary Palmer is a superb technical coach who has turned Dom Sibley and Shan Masood from mediocre batsmen into genuine international class batsmen whose defences are secure enough to bat for hours. Before that he helped Ian Bell and Alastair Cook. His CV is highly impressive.

We saw on Day 2 of the First Test v England that having Shadab Khan able to compile a Hundred Partnership with Shan Masood turned a score which was headed for 225 all out into 326 all out.

But the tail is still far too long. Pakistan clearly also needs a fast bowler who can bat at Number 8 and score runs.

We have seen that Amad Butt and Faheem Ashraf have made negligible progress as batsmen. Here are two men whose batting is currently so poor that they could only get into the team as specialist bowlers - which is also beyond them. But if they could reliably average 25-30 as a batsman, that equation could change decisively.

It's great that Shan Masood is smart enough, committed enough and wealthy enough to have employed Gary Palmer privately. But why can't Pakistan do the same thing for Amad Butt and Faheem Ashraf? Because if they can improve their batting significantly, Pakistan could go from being a team with a comedy tail to being a really powerful unit.

Depends if the player themselve want to learn.

Shan masood took the initiative. Plus, remember what happened when pakistan hired that Woodhill guy or watever his name was. Every quater of media was bashing him saying what are his credentials etc. I think this was before champions trophy of 2013.

I think pcb should give the option, where they fund the tripto the guys academy for the playerswho sign up to it. But no need to give media exposure

Faheem has a lot of batting talent. There are two flaws with him; a weak defence and an inability to understand his own game as well as game sense to work out higher percentage ways to score runs. In other words he doesn’t have batting intelligence. This can be improved with a knowledgable batting coach.

Faheem does have some natural talent with the bat. You could see it when he timed some of his shots over the fence in the few innings he has played. However he doesn't have the self awareness / work ethic to improve. Forget Shan, if you compare him to someone like Shadab, you can see the difference. They both arguably had similar skill at the beginning. Shadab was weak at hitting big shots and Faheem was weak at his defence/ building an innings. By the PSL it was clear Shadab had worked immensely on his power hitting, and overall had improved his all round batting. Faheem seems to have regressed and not worked on his game as required.

Amad Butt or Faheem Ashraf are not frontline bowler , they can be supporting seamers at best. You need proper bowlers to win Test Matches. They need to be played as bowling all rounder , maybe.

He has given alot to Pakistan cricket and deserves the time to work through his issues. Isn't surprising to me that so many Pakistani fans are saying he should be ousted from the team completely. That's just how they are and always will be. Thankfully, though the PCB seem willing to give him a certain amount of time to improve and Misbah surely also has belief in him. I just hope he gets out of this hole he is stuck in mentally

Don't think Wasim Khan wants to invest money on foreign coaches. He may select Jalaluddin/Aquib for 1-3 weeks condition camp. But the chances are not even 5%.

Azhar will not go anywhere anytime soon under Misbah and Waqar.Hopefully by 2023 Imran may replace all talk Waim Khan with someone skilled to qualify for CEO who can get rid of Misbah-Waqar and their buddies like Azhar, Shafiq, Sohail and Imran Khan, Hafeez, Malik, Wahab....
