In 1994/95, Australia included Aus A in the B&H World Series.

It was an awesome A side and them getting to the final proved that most of them could get in to the proper ODI team and remove the “not ready” arguments.

Very soon, the Aussies got rid of the oldies like David Boon, Stuart Law(not an oldie, but mediocre), Ian Healey, Mark Taylor etc

Some of the great defenders of the “not ready” brigade had to concede that the kids were ready to take over.

We have our own staunch “not ready” brigade in Pakistan. Let’s put the Shaheens in and see how they fare. Not only Pakistan, I think a lot of other teams should do this too.

Or is it too much of a risk for Sayacorps’ empire?

There should definitely be matches between Shaheens and our senior team as they will provide good practice. Likewise touring sides can and should play them in warm up games, though warm up games seem few and far between in cricket now. I wouldn't add them to 'international' tri series though as that kind of defeats the point of the tri series. Wonder why Aus only did it once and didn't do it again?

You can just do a Shaheen vs national team 3 or 5 match t20 series right after psl to get some better idea before finalizing squad.

It's more important for Shaheens to play regular series against the 'A' teams of countries like Australia, England, South Africa. They can't play international series because they are not an international team. The matches they play are accorded List A, T20 and FC status.

Completely agree with this.

They can have an exhibition match or two for different charitable causes between Shaheens and Pak regulars but what they need to consistently do is play A teams of Aus, Eng, RSA, & Kiwis. This year they had the opportunity and they played two of the most useless tournaments/tours ever in both Aus and England.

give the shaheens about 6 FC games, and 15 white ball games a year, preferably with more away games, and the player development will improve

back in the days of the Aussie series international players were skint. They'd play anyone if it meant a bit more appearance money and a longer tour.

Nowadays, with cramped schedules and bigger money in the game, no international team would agree to this concept in LOI

we should certainly try for Shaheen matches in test tours as warmups if the opposition is up for it. A lot of players managed to bang down the doors of selectors by performing in these types of matches.

Yeah I'm not sure what is to be gained by the Shaheens playing the academy teams of BBL franchises. In England aswell they were playing a series against a Counties Select XI team made up entirely of junior cricketers. I don't know which muppet in the PCB negotiated this deal, particularly the one for the Top End T20 series, but he is clearly a very stupid individual, who doesn't understand cricket very well.

Either way, we need to give these emerging players more exposure. Eg dead rubbers.

What the heck did we gain in the recent dead rubber vs SL? As much as I’m a fan of Fakhar, there was no need for him to play that game. Then Babar and Rizwan hogging most of the innings with their usual tuk tuk.

These are the games you try some of your emerging players. We need to get smart by playing our B/C teams in bilaterals. If other teams can do it, why can’t we?

I would like to even see something where Pakistan selects the shaheen squad only for a touring team, to give them proper exposure, the results show not be given to much importance, but how the players developed and performed should be looked at it, I think if they do this from time to time, can really go a long way for player development.

Very true - either that or have a good mix with at least 5-7 emerging players. Nothing wrong with it, but alas the regulars missing matches may affect their beloved ICC ranking points

not to forget but the chance to stat pad as well, ideally 5 to 7 emerging players would be ideal for certain series

I think India has something similar where they have India A/B/C playing each other

Pakistan can have that kind of tri series in their domestic calendar

Some of these lads need to be inducted into the side.

No need for Babar, Rizwan, Shaheen, Fakhar, Naseem etc to play Zimbabwe.

Let these boys get some games under their belt.
