Should Pakistan Super League team squads be reset for the next season?

I remember after that in the 4th season of IPL, The squads were reset and teams were allowed to retain only 4 players. I think PSL should do that for next season as well as its unfair on some teams that some teams have a lot of good players and others have none. I think for next season, teams should be allowed to retain maximum 3 players and all the released players should be sent into draft so PSL could become interesting once again.

Which teams have lots of good players and which teams have none? Only one I could think of is Lahore, and that's because their management is retardedd, not because of any PSL rules.

8 retentions is too much. Lahore retain 8 flops every time. 5 or 6 retentions would be great

Don't think that will work in PSL rn. Many teams like Multan are beginning to find their grove while others are building their teams for the long-term. Better to let things take their course naturally. I'm sure the league will only improve in quality and other standards in coming seasons. But patience is needed.

Only team that really needs a factory reset anyway is Lahore.

Not on a regular basis but once in 5 years. There are still players moving around like Tanvir and even Babar used to be in Islamabad United in the first season until they let him go.

LQ with current management would have still messed it up even if everything was reset. LQ once traded Umar Akmal and Sunil Narine for Hassan Khan and Rahat Ali if I am not wrong. Chris Gayle for Sohail Tanvir, now got Shinwari in diamond and gave away their round pick or something. They once had Jason Roy(2017) (In as well as Dwayne Bravo (In 2016).

In 2017 they had batting lineup of Fakhar, Roy, Mcculam, Umer Akmal. Whatever they do they still end up messing the combination somehow thanks to their management.

Quetta has too strong bowling lineup. Among the 3 best young Pakistani bowlers, Quetta has 2. Look unfair to others.

Of the 5 drafts, LQ has first picks probably 80% (5 X 20 =100, I guess they were among top two picks for all of these 100) - still their squad is in shambles. This is not only because of poor picks individually, but also picking players without keeping in mind on any combination. And, they allowed wrong players to leave or stay - when Misbah got rid of Babar , LQ should have pounced on to him.... then they threw Umar out as well. And, Shoail is probably their 4th Captain in 5 years!!!!!

If there is a squad reset, I am sure again LQ will find a way to goof-up. Other squads are decent and balanced, don't think too many twists are required.

No, this rule worked pretty well for IPL. Rohit Sharma used to play for Deccan Chargers and now he is the most successful Mumbai captain, same about Gambhir who used to play for Delhi then moved to KKR. I am pretty sure I am missing some other players as well, It changed the core of IPL teams.

That few changes always can happen - players are contracted on yearly basis (that's why every year there is a draft). Don't think, IPL or any franchise league goes through a massive changeover in one season.

After every three seasons of IPL, there is a reset in which they can retain up to 5 players. The matter of the fact is that PSL needs this to happen so the teams could be finally challenged. ISLU, PZ, QG have had the same core for the past few years in their team so need to change that.

Every 2/3 years it wouldn't be a bad idea. Franchies can keep 4/5 players and reset the rest. It happens in the IPL every 2 seasons or so. The smart franchises buy back a couple of their key players and replace older players with younger ones.

Yes, but not yet. PSL has just come back to Pakistan and fans are seeing some of their favorite teams for the first time. So even though it is PSL 5, it is actually closer to IPL 2 than IPL 5 in terms of maturity of fan base and how closely they are attached to these teams.

A mass exodus of players at this point would prevent the brand from developing and throw the fanbase in disarray. Let them form a closer attachment to the current teams now that they are seeing them for the first time ever.

Let’s reopen this thread in 2-3 years. I 100% back the idea as something that can happen every 5 years or so. I would also allow teams to keep 5 players rather than 4 so that at least some of the core is intact
