Should performances against minnows, low ranked team and in dead rubbers be ignored for Pak players?

Pakistan just does not play enough consistent cricket against England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and India. These team are the elite in International Cricket especially in ODI's and T-20's.

For far too long we have seen the likes of Shehzad, Hafeez, Malik and Azhar Ali put in a good performance against the likes of West Indies, Sri Lanka, or other minnow teams or in dead rubbers even against the elite teams when the series has been lost and there is no more pressure on the players. End result is after going missing for an entire series and when the pressure was really on and the boys needed to perform, these guys failed but after performing in a dead rubber or in a series against lowly ranked opposition, these guys were able to survive and cement their places in the team.

This is where Pakistan Cricket really needs to move forward. We have players who hold on to their positions in the team on the basis of just one 50 but when we get them in against the big boys on the stage where it really matters they get exposed really ruthlessly.

India moved on from the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag ruthlessly when their performances dipped for 1-2 series. Sehwag had even scored a century in test cricket before being dropped after a string of poor scores in the next 2-3 games. Yuvraj was dropped and has been made to work extremely hard for a place in the side again in the sense that he was out of the side for 2-3 years straight. And in Pakistan we drop Umar Akmal for one series, he gets to play in a T-20 league world wide and he gets recalled for the next available series.

The selectors and the coaching staff need to look at the big picture where they need to actually identify players who can deliver against a broad range of opposition in all conditions, there is no harm in throwing younger players and seeing if they sink or swim against the top teams.

I am just now getting frustrated seeing the likes of Shehzad, Azhar Ali, Hafeez, Malik do well against minnows, in dead rubbers only to be exposed on the big stage time and time again.
