In my last trip to Pakistan, I asked people both close to the Pakistan Super League and the Pakistan Cricket Board whether the players had Health Insurance? The answer was a combination of "I don't know" and "no." There is a groundswell of discussion around the PCB's Medical Department. Although a fair point and a necessary topic of discussion, I think it is important that we encourage the concept of Health Insurance. In one of his blogs not too long ago, Julien Fountain mentioned that players didn't want to dive because they were afraid to get injured. One other fear that players have is the possibility and likelihood that they would have to pay for injuries out of their own pockets. Lets not forget, despite the increase in player salary, there is very little security in the system. You are 1 bad year if not 1 bad game away from having nothing. On top of that, why should you go all out and risk the possibility of an injury when you will have to pay it out of your own pocket. Every player associated with International and/or Domestic Cricket should have Health Insurance.
