Not a knee jerk reaction but as they say that the team takes image of its captain and Sarfaraz is an honest, street smart fighter who in many ways reminds me of Javed Miandad. He also has the respect of whole team and in India can play nice counter attacking innings in middle order in the upcoming world cup. Can even be considered as a floater batsman and come anywhere from no 3 to no 7 position depending on the status of the match. Can the team be molded as a redemption story based on his own life and reproduce CT 17? There is no better alternative at present and Babar simply cannot lead the team. Should be relieved of his misery
No, No and NO!
We have seen this an unlimited number of times now.
Our criteria to make some a captain is basically two things, either he is the next senior OR he has performed well.
Both of these qualities are imperative to become the captain; however, there is an EVEN BIGGER requirement that must be consider first, and we all ignore it, all the time.
And that is, leadership ability and man handling skills.
Many at times, when we make someone captain because he has performed well with the bat, guess what happens? His performance with the bat starts going down. We have seen this with many players.
It's primarily because they don't have the leadership skills, and they don't know how to handle different personalities in the team to get the best out of each player. So the unconscious guilt puts an adverse effect on their personal performance.
Same is gonna happen with Sarfaraz. Make him the captain, and this one off performance that he gave, will take a nose dive (I think it's happen anyway, whether you make him the captain or not).
It's was good batting performance and credit must be given where due, but IMO, it was also a few flashes in the pan. We already know, he is an extremely limited batsman that has primarily only one shot, and this, sweep towards midwicket.
Even though he performed well in the previous stint and saved this game, and credit where due, but it doesn't warrant the notion of him now being made the captain. That's quite a stupid thought process.
