He has had some memorable performances just they are too few and far between. Reality is he’s incredibly frustrating as a batsman. Gets starts then just gives it away without converting 50’s into 100’s on good batting tracks. But Pak really don’t have many choices and he can only be as good as his bowlers. I guess another 12 months and we can see how well he’s doing.

Should have scored a century, but at least, he is finally starting to justify his place in the team after more than a decade of playing without any real performances.

I was waiting for his hundred all morning, hitting refresh on the scorecard every 15 mins was like being frozen in time, and when he finally got going around my lunch break and the stream was sorted, he got out; I think Shan was doing some mental somersaults in his head and got too excited by the idea of his stats getting better.

Not fair to compare him to the GOAT, but Younis Khan had ice in his veins when he got close to a landmark, he barely broke a sweat and would get big daddy hundreds like somebody stole his lunch money <50 & he was getting it back and giving you a wedgie along the way.

I am hugely concerned regarding the recent decision by the PCB to appoint Shan Masood as the Test captain again. This move has left many of us puzzled and questioning whether Test cricket is being given the importance it deserves

I’m hugely concerned that you are hugely concerned

Zyada mehnat na karain. There is no point :qdkcheeky

Shan should continue as test captain during the current test cycle (until 2027).

His real test will be the test series (3 tests) in England next year.

Pakistan must start planning now for that series. Should try to win one test at least otherwise England might not offer us more than two tests in future!
Pakistan is touring England for 5 tests in 2028

Shan must target WTC final.

If he can somehow achieve that, he will leave a legacy as a captain.

We ain't ever gonna get a chance like this again.
Next cycle it's gonna be England tour for 4-5 tests, NZ tour and Aus home series...so this is only realistic chance.....win 10 tests and draw one in England and you are in finals.....

I feel like Pakistan will lose easier home and subcontinent away Tests and then win a test or two in England.

On to current Test match. Pakistan are in a spot of bother (As Amir Sohail says). Need to get a big 1st innings lead to secure the series.

YK doesn’t get the respect he deserves, because he was a test specialist and Pakistanis don’t care much about test cricket.

Younis wasn’t the most talented but he was as mentally tough and resilient as anyone.

YK was talented though? He's by far one of the best wrist players and his hand eye coordination at reading spin is unmatched by any Pakistani despite YK having a weird technique.

Its just in odi spinners bowl quicker and flatter and you don't have the freedom to play the way you want.

I'm not a statsguru but I believe Babar has a better batting average when he was captain. That's right is it not?
That doesn't mean anything. Babar was more inform from 2016-2022. Everyone knows this. Him being captain or not doesnt change that fact.

Make him captain now and the result would be the same.

Tbh I think @The_KING probably was referring to the early part of his player & Younis overall wasn’t given any god given talent but was one of the toughest & most resilient players to represent Pakistan that had an amazing work ethic. His ODI career needs to be studied to because it’s a lot better then people think & he was played in the wrong positions for most of it, but still has many iconic knocks in the format

He also got complete power then and misused it when you look at the pitches he played on & he padded his stats against weak opposition which people like Harris, Saim etc deserved to play along time ago, our development programme was held under Babar who did not create one good cricketer, his main goal was keeping good friendships, especially with Rizwan; and look what happened? This is the result of keeping bad company, they drag you down to their level

Tough on & off the pitch, I remember one period in his life where literally one by one he began to lose all his family members, Bob Woolmer was coach then & had the difficult task to bring out his best and also help exorcise his demons through cricket, I can’t believe there were people comparing Imran Farhat to Bob, Bob was just special st everything and as a man manager, the most complete cricket coach in history.

Not everyone can be a god given talent but that doesn't mean he isnt talented by default.

YK is in the middle range. He isn't talented like Inzi or Yousaf naturally were but he isn't exactly Fawad Alam levels of Untalented where they had to really grind hard to make it work.

I like fawad and believe he was unfairly treated by Misbah, he was a far better batsmen then Asad Shafique, but Fawad was hard working.

His reactions were next to Zero and he tended to mistime alot. His play against spin was horrific and he basically pre meditated 90% of the time. It worked due to his weird stance and bowlers assuming he'd struggle with straight lines.

YK's reactions never declined, His ability to judge spin was phenomenal and the fact that raw pace never bothered him in test even at the age of 35-40 despite playing in Aussie dens is phenomenal.

His weakenss was swing which is why he was poor in SA. He doesn't mind raw bounce.

I think Fawad's weird technique cost him his career.

Selectors probably didn't have faith in his technique.

I think with Shan, he is basically getting series-by-series basis. I don't think he is long term in PCB eyes & Saud Shakeel is more of a future option once Shan's performance run out.
