As I speak, we are finding that NZ, England and Australia are tied in a 3 horse race for the top 2 pole positions.

However, the NZ vs Ireland match is being played on 4 Nov and Australia vs Afghan match later in the day.

NZ are almost through and it would take a complete destruction for them to ruin their run rate.

However, Australia and England are battling it out for the final spot.

If Australia do thrash Afghanistan, England will play Sri Lanka the next day knowing EXACTLY what they have to do to pip Australia for the 2nd position.

In Champions League, to cater to this, they usually have both matches played simultaneously, so you cannot have an unfair advantage of "knowing exactly what to do" to hit the top position.

Similarly, India will play their last match vs Zimbabwe knowing EXACTY what they have to do to win it all.

In my opinion, the last matches of the group should always be played simultaneously, so that none of the 4 possible teams can work out their best mathematics to get an "unfair advantage".

I know this thread might not get the attention and most people will disagree but I feel the team playing last, in this case England and India will know EXACTLY what they have to do (only win, win by handsome margin, win in certain amount of overs).

To mitigate this, cricket must have the matches being played simultaneously, so that all the teams can be blind to what can be the outcome.

Makes for exciting matches and uncertainty.

Makes the World Cup really worthwhile.

Discuss.

They should but greedy ICC wants to make the most from sponsors so the broadcast has to be seperate

Also it’s too late to change a schedule that has been decided ages ago

Changing schedule on the fly is not possible and it is bad idea for broadcasters.

England will have advantage of knowing the equation but it's just their luck that they are playing last and are still in mix of qualification.

schedule is always driven by the broadcaster, who has paid billions. They won't agree for a schedule where they will miss a lot of eyeballs due to two matches being played at the same time. this is a non starter..

In football, they can play boring draws. In cricket they can't in T20s. So the comparison isn't apt.

One way to address this would be to leave games among either the expected top teams or expected bottom teams for last day rather than game between top team and qualifying team which gives that particular team greater advantage of knowing their target and potentially opportunity to overcome it.
So for e.g. final day games could have been ones among eng,nz, aus, saf, ind, pak. And/or among qualifiers.

In FIFA World Cup, last matches are played simultaneously.

Cricket World Cups should also do the same.

It is a hindsight proposal. If India had beaten SA that match would have been a dead rubber. Nobody knows which match will be significant.

Nope. The reason it happens in football is because specific clubs have specific viewers thus every match is covered by a specific channel.

Cricket broadcast is different as everyone is watching othe games aswell.
