Should the series against the West Indies be Mohammad Amir's last chance?

Sooner rather then later he needs to show that he can take wickets. He was rusty made to bowl in 11 tests in 6 months period it was always going to be a difficult task so soon on his comeback but if he does not have a good series in terms of wickets here then he should be shown the door imo.
 
Amir's not going anywhere, he's held down his own end well enough and should continue to do for the next year or so.
 
I expect him to do well in WI. A month off has done him good. He had a hectic schedule from last year. England was a long tour, he played all 4 tests, played most of the odi's and the t20 as well. Then he only had a couple of weeks off before the UAE series against WI then only a couple of weeks off before NZ and Australia and remember he played ODIs v Australia too and then the PSL. This rest will have had benefits and I hope he bounces back

I always hear about the next series as Amirs last chance, however same questions are raised again during the next series.

It seems like PCB will do anything for Amir to become the next Wasim.
 
He may not be the same player (yet) as he was pre ban but he still deserves a place in the starting XI in all three formats imo. It would be foolish to drop him.
 
For doing well against Aus in ODI's? That would be something.

Had some other bowlers become consistent bowlers in the test format then he wouldn't have been in the test format. But now he is there for his ability. If I were the selector I would have selected him only for the limited overs serie for the time being.
 
Wheres the stats on the amount of catches dropped of his bowling.I remember there was between 5-10 in the England series alone.Lets not forget this guy is not superman, nor is he anywhere near being a legend, so let him get on with his job, if he gets dropped people will be complaining and demanding his reinstatement, familiar cycles.
 
I agree it should be his last chance - only until he has regained form and fitness in domestic. My own bias of preferring a life time ban for him aside, I understand that he is hard working, committed and a fast learner, so if he doesn't perform and is dropped I suspect it will be very good for him personally and he will come back better and soon.
 
Certainly not. He's looked the best of lot even though he doesn't have the figures to prove it. Dropping him even if he fails will only put us in the wrong direction. He's getting better, it'll take time but you have to give him time. This is cricket. Not a joke. Look at Ashwin and Jadega. They were the epitome of mediocrity when they started out but look at where they are now. Both topping the charts for the best bowlers. In fact, Jadega didn't even make the team for his bowling. It was because of his two triples in Ranji that he got to make a comeback into the team for the Aus tour of India.

This is how cricketers are made and polished.

cos PCB are stupid unlike other boards and sometimes play him when he's not needed ie dead rubbers. That's as hectic as a schedule can get, yes they're professional but this was a shock for him considering he was away from the game for FIVE years

I'm sure they loved it when the likes of Umar Gul, Anwar Ali, Aizaz Cheema, Sami Spray-gun and Rahat Ali were opening the bowling for us.

Peak Umar Gul was ten times the bowler Amir was. These guys can barely bowl yorkers.

And select who?

He is not the same bowler but much better than garbage like Aziz Cheema and Umar Gul. We have no bowlers in the domestic cricket.

Muhammad Abbas a trundler is brought into the test squad shows our talent pool.

You can't even say this line for Sohail Tanvir let alone Amir. Amir hasn't taken many wickets but he was not your worst bowler during this period. Let's take a look at the list of bowlers who can replace Amir after he gets dropped because of poor performances against west indies.

Anwar Ali
Bilawal Bhatti
Umar Gul
Aizaz Cheema
 
Not many alternatives at the moment as far as I can see. Amir was never that great to begin with. His first phase was not long enough for him to be judged.

Hasan Ali is young and has time.

sure keep telling yourself that. not Wahabs over or Hasan Ali opening spell or middle spell or Hafeez slow batting. The one who lost was who drew the least number of runs per over among the fast bowlers and got the most wickets among the bowlers....
 
Hasan Ali wipes the floor with the poorly calibrated bowling machine aka Amir. His impact continues to be zero.

Hasan Ali is nearly the same age as Amir..... do you even know your stats? Amir has been mediocre? is that why he had the most drops/game among bowlers since his return? or you know better than Australian and Pak commentators who said he bowled the best without getting wickets or where you make up he lost us two games.. pathetic fans

no one here is saying he is a savior or bowling extra ordinary but many fans are inherently simple minded and not really thinking at all outside their tinted biased glasses.

Of course he wasn't the only reason we lost the game today. However, it isn't wrong in saying that Amir has been trash since his return.
 
Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz bowled filth. Amir was the best of a bad bunch today.

Hasan Ali bowled so bad that captain could only give him 5 overs in which he went for 8.6rpo without picking up a wicket and people are saying he outbowled Amir :)))

Your comprehension skills must be very weak because I don't see anyone seeing that Hasan outbowled Amir.
 
For me all fast bowlers were rubbish and were topped by absolutely pathetic captaincy by Sarfraz.

So Amir picks up 2 wickets and goes for 6.5 while Hasan picks up 0 wickets and goes for 8.6 but Hasan is more impactful LMAO

its about RELATIVE performance. e.g. the bowler with most number of played and misses or unplayable balls gets no wickets and is considered Trash while the bowler who gets spanked like Muhammad Sami nearly every other match with wickets is considered promising. I get some folks have hate which they only show after Amir's return and stay silent or subdued when he takes a wicket and scream when he doesn't. That is a desi trait, to be the worst of fans without thought and logic.

I disagree. Hasan got 5-fer; but that alone doesn't mean that he has outperform Amir. And don't use this "impactful" rubbish either.
 
Its amazing. for Amir worshippers..he is the best and there is no fault in the bowling. for amir haters.. only if he matches Wasim is he considered better than average. There is no middle ground because...that would almost require common sense

That is because Hasan and Wahab have not been hailed as the best bowling talent of this generation and the next Wasim Akram. When you hype someone to the moon and beyond, don't complain when the level of expectations are high, because that is inevitable. Not talking about you, I'm making a general comment.

Amir fans spent years telling everyone how he is better than anyone of his age and will be an ATG, and also got foam in their mouths if someone said that Starc, Boult or Mustafiz are better than him. But then, they cry when he is judged differently. They can't have it both ways. If you are going to put someone on a pedestal, don't expect him to be viewed and judged with the same lens as everyone else.

you are constantly stuck in your rut. Why do you let what others say about his talent as your gauge of performing rather than the person himself. Why not form your own opinion rather than judge based on what others view is and base your view off of that. It seems clear you are only judging the performance of Amir based on what some nutty fans and not on a objective view through your own lens. Maybe that will induldge some common sense in your commentary and make you a better judge of a cricketer

I know who Amir is what his worth is. A decent bowler potential wise but not 50% of what his fans think he is or will be. He is a rung below bowlers like Starc, Boult etc. but superior to no-hopers like Rahat, Wahab and the post-2013 Junaid. My main problem is with his blind fans who refuse to acknowledge that they overrated him and he is not as good as they thought he is, and continue to hide behind the dropped catches and adulation of commentators nonsense.

In short: problem is not Amir, but his fans.

see we are making progress here. base Amir's performance on his performance. there are nutty fans for all sorts of cricketers and sportsmen. You don't say I hate how Jack performed today..you know why? because his fans think he is the best. a common sense approach is to say. I dont care what his fans say, I think Jack's performance could have been better

He is the go to bowler. Not Hasan. And right now he is not delivering that role
