Considering wt20 is not a very long tournament, should there be a match between the sides that lost their semi matches? One extra day wouldn't hurt. It can also help with ICC generating more money if for example the game turns out to be something like Pak vs India, Aus vs England, Ind vs Aus, Eng vs Ind.

Would like the admins to make a poll for it.

Bunny bhai you should know pretty well that the runner up, the team which plays the actual final and loses gets no respect or bragging rights after the loss then what makes you think a match for the 3rd place spot will mean anything or be at all relevant for anything really?

Seriously..

No, totally unnecessary. You win or you’re out, shouldn’t be competing for 3rd place as if that means anything.

3rd place doesn't matter here but I believe it should be a best of 3 final as a team can play well all tournament and have 1 bad day. It makes sense for all ICC trophy finals to be best of 3 like the Benson and Hedges tri-series used to be.

I think that is part of the magic of a world cup....the element of 'random chance', needing to perform on a particular day etc. So I think one final is great - actually I would stop watching the world cup if they had a best of three final.

In terms of the thread, no no no no no. Definitely no third place game. It would be the most pointless, boring game in history. Never enjoyed it in the football world cup, sleep inducing cure for insomnia.

ppl dont wanna be runner ups, who would want to be 3rd... unless its given to SA as a participation award coz they are not gonna win anything on their own.

There should be a match made which Afghanistan is guaranteed to win, it’s sad to see them go out on 0 defeats again while everyone else had their World Cup moment. I love their effort though!

Pointless matches whose only purpose is to create extra revenue for suits. As a player on the losing side, you probably just want to go home and rest.
The only positive from these games is that they allow teams to give their squad players a run out, but for cricket teams the traveling squad sizes are too small to allow for fielding of a second XI.

Only asked this question cause this time around, there is a potential of having an India-Pak encounter even if it's not finals which is a cash cow for ICC regardless of whether there's anything on the line of not. And we do know ICC cares about MONEY A LOT.

I do agree in cricket, it's you win or you don't and there's nothing really for any one other than the winners.

But I've seen in football, hockey and Olympics the no.3 matches taking place so just wanted to know what you guys think.

Yeah would be an interesting match between India and New Zealand :sarf2

Didn't say it from fans' perspective or prestige, but we've seen how much ICC, ACCA etc been scheduling games between PakvsInd in wc and Asia Cup, CT etc in last 10 years to milk that cash cow. Infact the last time Pak vs Ind match wasn't scheduled in a world cup was way back in 2010 wt20.

The way Asia Cup has been formatted since 2018 so that Pak vs Ind encounter can face upto 3 times in a span of 2 weeks.

Yes, I don't see why not. There should be something on the line though. Maybe they need to start handing out medals for T20 world cups.

There is no bronze or silver medal in cricket.

Maybe in a qualification type format, this might be a good idea to have top 3 teams qualify and 3-4 play a one-off game.
