Need one say more? But you decide.

Yes.

Blame lies mainly on Mickey for seeing him so closely but not pushing for his selection. And please dont give me the same old excuse that he was the no 1 coach for SA so he can never be wrong. This is Pakistan and we are different with different setup and talent plus it is 2019 not 2009.

Umer should have been selected even over Imad Wasim.

Proper spinner comes first, all rounder comes second.

Our selectors are looking for pseudo all rounders like Nawaz and Faheem. Umar Khan doesn’t fit into that description. Can’t blame the selectors though. Our batting lineup will always be fragile enough for us to ignore good spinners and search for ‘all rounders’.

This is true. I'm sure Umar's non selection was also with the WC in mind as there's no room for us to play a specialist spinner there over Imad who is a stone cold lock to play.

I'm genuinely confused with regard to the non-selection.

Yasir is a fine test bowler, but has never looked great in the shorter formats.

The young influx of talent is what we need, and Khan has looked great against some really good players. He has things to learn still, but we will not win this series upcoming regardless, so try to test him in a new area is great, even if it is T20 for example.

Oh well, let's hope this is short lived and we seem him on upcoming tours.

Should have been selected. Has a great mind and is able to outfox batsman.

Seeing as we are lacking good spinners, yes, he should have been picked.

He had a close look at usama Mir too. The one he rates highly was usman shinwari and I think only usman made to the pak squad from KK so far

Perhaps too soon.

Maybe let him play a bit more domestic.

I wouldn't mind I wouldn't personally bring him to World Cup but I would give him this series and look to see what he can do after World Cup

Based on how bad Yasir Shah has been, yes, he should have been picked over Shah, but, as I've said on another thread already, he most likely wasn't picked as we already have Imad Wasim so I guess the think tank felt 1 left arm spinner and 1 leg spinner was better balance. But Yasir Shah is diabolical, if you're that concerned about having a leggie, I guess there was no need to rest Shadab Khan, spinners workload compared to pacers is not that much.

Mickey on Umer Khan today

"I love Umer Khan, but we wanted a wrist-spinner, we wanted to give Yasir an opportunity. Sharjah was incredibly flat and there wasn't much on offer for our seamers or our spinners. I'm hoping here that it grips and turns a little bit more and then we can hopefully see Yasir coming to the game. The key for us is that two spinners need to be challenging both edges, at the moment they're only challenging one edge and that makes them a little predictable"

The lad could not have done any worse than Yasir Shah.

Even now they could call him up for 2 ODIs.
