Kohli needs a well deserved rest. Now that the series is lost, I think management should not play him in the next test as it's a dead rubber. It would be better to have another youngster gain the experience. Also if he rests now, they can play him in the Asia cup knockout stage. He can save India the embarrassment if they don't make it to the final

He will be rested for the Asia cup. He should play the game and try to win it.

If it was 2-2 then it wouldn't even be a question, but they have already lost the series so better to rest him now and keep him fresh for Asia cup. What if India doesn't make the final without him?

How many threads related to kohli.they can drop opner and pandya for new batsman

OP is naughty, he wants the India team to get out under scores of hundred and lose by an innings in the final match. :afridi

Nope, India should aim for 3-2. It's more respectable than 4-1.

Asia Cup rest was an excellent decision by Kohli, I would much rather see him score tough test centuries in England than tons against Bang, SL etc on sub continent airports.

^ I don't think series winning side play with same intensity in dead rubbers especially fast bowlers and understandably so. That's why dead rubber runs like he scored in 3rd test against SA or the centuries against AUS in AUS have same value as scoring when the series was on.

If he is injured or not 100% then no need to play. Araam sai chill karay. He did great in the series already no need to aggravate his condition.

My understanding is that every test match counts in the championship, so there’s no such thing as a dead rubber when it comes to points

Sure dead rubbers are not of the same intensity, that's why Brain Lara's and Younis Khan's record in Australia is massively inflated.

However, it's much better to head back to India having lost 3-2, than 4-1. Also, he has also decided to rest from Asia cup so he will have a months rest after the final test till the WI series begins.

No, tests are important, India must try new faces , Dhawan and Ahwin should be dropped

Virat will not rest for the final Test. He would want to finish the series on a high. A 3-2 series loss is much better than a 4-1 scoreline. Except for Lord's all the Tests have been close. I just hope India wins the toss at the Oval and bats first. Teams chasing targets have struggled in this series.

I'd rather he rest for the final test and play the Asia Cup, which should be nurtured as a premier tournament. Who cares about a dead test?

Oh I get it, according to Indian fans and some neutral purist a dead rubber test Cricket is better than an ODI tournament be it World Cup, Asia Cup, Champions Trophy, etc.

I have nothing to say...I might as well tune into baseball which has a potential to be much more entertaining had they increased the bat size.

By not playing in the Asia Cup he'll have plenty of rest. Kohli missing the the final Test will give England a great chance of making it 4-1. Naturally, India will not want to be thrashed in the series so being their best batsman and skipper Kohli is certain to play like he should.

He will play and will lose, as has been the norm lately.

No reason why he should rest either, given he's not playing the Asia Cup.

Should give it rest to captaincy rather than resting from playing tournament.

But as per him he has nothing to prove in England. Also he already has 500+ runs. His focus should be on the next assignment. As a Pakistani my wish is for Pak to face the best of India and I am honestly hoping for 3 games. Would be really disappointing if India can't make it to the final because Virat decided to rest. He should be resting now to be prepared for an international tournament.

They've been thrashed even with him playing

What do you think, according to you, went wrong with India in this series?

1. Lack of preparation. Not enough practice matches.

2. I was expecting belting hot sun but the clouds and moisture returned.

3. Modern Indian batsmen struggle to play the moving ball. Too much pressure on the skipper - if sometimes supported by Pujara and Rahane.

4. Something went wrong with Ashwin whom I expected to be pivotal with bat and ball. Does he not like bowling with the Duke? Is he carrying injuries?

I really thought India would win the series, with their best ever quick array plus Ashwin, plus sunny weather, plus the weakest England top five in living memory. England have clung on because of the depth of their batting.

Very strange series. If we are being honest only Kohli and Anderson (the latter if playing in England) would make a World XI

The honest truth is India have prioritised the series against Australia over the Asia cup. So they aren't bothred about not making the final.

No way, 2-3 would be a much more respectable result for India than 1-4 which would on paper (regardless of the competitive balance of play) go down as a bit of a squash.

It could be that he feigns injury knowing that England are certain to own India again. At least he can then say "I wasn't playing in the last Test when England made it 4-1".

No. A 3-2 defeat in a Test series looks a lot better than 4-1. Kohli will be rested in the Asia Cup anyway.

No.

This ain't an ordinary dead rubber.

India must fight until the last day of last test. Win game for pride and give some joy to their fans.

If he ain't playing in Asia cup, then it's pointless to rest him either way.
