Should Younis Khan have been given the Test captaincy for 1-2 years?

Saw his interview on TV, he is not shy at all. He did express some dissapointment that the PCB did not offer him the test captaincy after Misbah's retirement. He was like he had already achieved his goal of over taking Javed Miandad, of achieving 10,000 runs and being Pakistan's highest test scorer, he mentioned that if he was offered the captaincy it would have given him more motivation and a goal to carry on and mould the test team according to his beliefs and vision.

He also revealed that one of the reasons why he wanted to retire was that he did not want a younger captaincy to feel burden by his presence in the dressing room and the pressures involved in managing him.

While Younis wasn't in sublime touch, he was Pakistan's best test batsman, he would surely have delivered on the flat wickets of UAE and Sub Continent and there were no question marks over his fitness.

Should the PCB have offered him the test captaincy for the next 1-2 years in order to have him continue playing?

No not at all.

He retired one series too late (but still not too late) and it is time to give a younger player like Sarfraz the captaincy.

Lol with fans/media coming up with ideas like these how can you guys ever get better in future?

So according to Younis Khan, the captain has to be the oldest guy in the team due to seniority.

No. He was a great batsman but very self centered and childish. Some of his behaviour never convinced me that he would have made a mature captain.

The intrinsically wrong thing is the idea that a younger captain should feel uncomfortable by a senior , this needs to change now. Shoaib malik isnt making any such demands and he made is debut in the last mellinium. Younis's good innings were becoming less and less frequent , a year more and he probably would have ended with an average less than 45. A good retirement call and he should not put the blame on pcb.

He used to be a great player, but in his last eight Tests he:

Had Sixteen Innings
Made 1 century
Made 1 fifty
Failed in 14 of his last 16 innings.

It was time to go.

It was the right call We need to look forward and a younger new captain is what was needed

Yk has been a top test bat for pakistan but he was never captaincy material esp now at the age of 40

What's the use? He could hardly score a fifty these days. It really hurt his batting average which should have been 55 instead of 51/52.

Well there is a point but not at the end of his career.

You can't replace a captain who is about to turn 43 with a captain who is about to turn 42.

no i think this was the perfect way for Y.K to go out on a high and in a historic series win. We all know YKs real age is 41 hence why he used to wear 75 as his ODi shirt number. He was a great performer for Pak but we have to move on with the new gen eventually. We have a 6 month break till.our next Test series so this is a nice way to signify a clean break.

I would've completely stopped following Pakistan cricket if he was given the Test captaincy!
