India with a lot to do on Day 3 after Australia reached 480 in their first innings - but the start by India openers has been encouraging.

Can they take the fight back to the Aussies or will the visitors dominate?

Starc needs to go full pelt. Pitch is placid so bowl full and keep at it. Runs on the board.

Might as well go for the win

What a performance from the Aussie batters, mainly carried by Khawaja and Green. They're in the driving seat here for 2-2, would be an outstanding result.

This is still a great batting surface on Day-3. Probably from Day-4, spinners might come into play.

If India bats the entire day, this will mostly be a draw.

All Indian batsmen should look to pump up their stats. Their averages have taken a hit playing on rank turners.

No silly point, no forward short leg. No leg slip either.

This is very defensive captaincy from Smith.

Puff of dust coming off. We need to be very vigilant.

Rahul has such a great chance to shut Rahul out of our test team.

Gill is still a bad player of spin. He hides the bat behind the pad. A very bad strategy against Lyon.

Rahul should bat in the middle order. He is not an opener. He is too talented to give Ip that easily.
Of course I meant Gill!

On topic, don't have any hope from Rahul at any slot. So bad he has been in whatever format he plays.

That is because he keeps opening and he has a glaring weakness against inswing. He is a confidence player and right now, his confidence is very low. He is a 360 player and India will not give up on him that easily.

It's not the technical weakness that hurts him, it's the mental weakness which cannot be hidden irrespective of wherever he bats.

After ton in first test, Rohit has done nothing in this series. Don't think he will play teets for too long.

Gill looks like a sitting duck against spin. Very poor technique. Very indecisive and plants his pad first.

Pujara looking uncomfortable even though this pitch is completely in his zone at least in his heydays.

Need these kind of pitches to boost the confidence of our batters! (Also the right way to groom new batsmen into the team! In overseas tests we are anyways provided with hostile pitches)

Day 3: Lunch Break - India trail by 351 runs

Lunch, day three: Morning session - 27 overs | 93 runs | 1 wicket. Starc resorted to the short ball tactic early in the day but the Indian openers went after him and Smith was forced to take him off the attack. Lyon bowled beautifully but it was Kuhnemann who was able to provide the breakthrough as Rohit - who was looking in good touch - chipped one to short cover. Post that, there were hardly any chances created. Shubman Gill has compiled a fifty and Pujara has used his feet superbly against spin. Murphy bowled a ripper that beat the half-centurion's inside edge and bounced over the sticks and that was the closest Australia came to pick a wicket in the second hour. India's session and they still trail by 351 runs.

What about Australian media now? Are they happy with this pitch and enjoying this match? Any other complaint? (Without Pant I guess they would prefer Gabba kind of pitch! I guess that should be their next complaint!)

They'll still find something to sook about.

Gill has been in the 70s since forever.

Need such pitches at home to establish Gill as our premier batsman of this era! Also happy-happy situation (drawn matches, drawn series) for opponents also with no spin-venom to bother them! Lets hit them hard when we go to their own den by building a strong batting lineup (we already have a good bowling unit). We couldn't win many series due to this reason (undeveloped batting lineup) e.g., last England series, last two South Africa series...

Excellent partnership between Gill and Pujara

Gill Hundred will go a long way in establishing his Test credentials

Virat Kohli Kohli Kohli

If he can’t score century here than he is worst than tuk tuk Rahul :))

Well done Gill. Hopefully, this ton will keep Rahul out of team for some time at least.

Day 3: Tea Break - India trail by 292 runs

Looking like a draw now - India must force the pace of this game.

Kohli looking really edgy.

It's tea.

Nowadays, ball just start spinning when Kohli comes on to bat. He is making many mediocre bowlers look great.

Not too happy with Pujara as well, he allowed the bowlers to get on top by his defensive batting.

That's because his batting technique has gone to dogs. That he is failing consistently for 3 years now isn't due to him being unlucky but it's due to his batting technique has become really deficient.

Sunny just pointed out that Kohli is playing with hard hands which may make him a good candidate to get caught at short leg.

If Kohli can't score runs here, he should call it a day.

I think Kohli should stick to LOIs if he ever wants to continue playing! In tests he is absolutely done, no question about it!

Even in LoIs, he is pedestrian save against weak attacks

Just tuned in, baayz r playeeeng well....
Gill good knock, VK not looking comfy at all...
but 200 is up and surely from here we should get close to their total.
I feell our R/r is better than theirs, and we should leave time in the match to knock 10 of theirs over for not so much
On the other front, SL Vs NZ - what a fantastic match...this is what a cricket pitch should be & i hope BCCi andour media take note of this...tommorow woudl be so interesting for nz vs sl...

Lol we made this pitch to save ourselves. Not to prove any point to Australia. :inti

It is only wrong when Pakistanis does this. :rabada2 :inti

Such a great feeling to see Kohli wholeheartedly congratulating Gill for his ton.

well - i call it wrong in this test, the first two tests as well as when your lot played england for all 3 tests.

on the flip side, look at NZ vs SL - that looks like a gr8 test cricket wicket...and hence it has produced an exciting test.

Tired shot from Gill, gone.

Out for 128 Gill

To be honest this is a very boring test match as compared to the first three when things were moving at a fast pace and it was a good contest. In the first two tests Australia had their moments, they were in fact ahead in the game on the 3rd day of the 2nd test only to collapse in 90 mins. For all the talk that 'Rank Turners' are a lottery and all that, well then such tests are a draw unless something really drastic happens.

Let's face it guys, the present day audience is not going to sit all day and watch 90 overs of a test match with the game moving at a snail's pace. Yes, in the past this was a norm but not anymore, people are used to T20s fast paced games, tests are only interesting when wickets keep falling. Else no one is having the patience to watch them.

so fed up of paan masalla advtrs on indian tv channels....
how can these film stars flaunt it as if its some super necessary requisite health related stuff that improves your life or something
Am sure pak tv channels like ptv/dawn/geo have more conscience and donot show such garbage stuff ....what say...

I think it is better to try Axar at No.5 instead of Jadeja! He seems to be in better touch with the bat at the moment, also it can help him gain confidence (and sense of being a part of team, without doing much with the ball)

yes, good point about being in form and sense or being part of team. he is the batsman in good rhythm and has scored crucial runs, yet under rated runs for eg his 39 against Bng in 2nd test was so crucial.
- but hope he turns it around when its his turn to bowl in 2nd innings

Its a pity that such a magnificient Shri Narendra Modi stadium is less than half full even thought this is a saturday.
But the empty seats do give us a sense of perspective of the beauty of the statium, the massiveness of this, the wonderful sun pattern on the seats, the atmosphere of an amphitheatre....some day it will be full of people for a test match and that will be really appreciative of the skills of the two teams and the magnificience of the stadium.
That said, the real USP of this place is at night when the 'ring of fire' overhead lights light up, that is a magnificient sight, unparelleled world wide

Lol these guys are not interested in trying to make a game of this. Just batting at a rate under 3 and happy to end this test as draw. Pretty dull and boring test match this.

It reminds me of Pakistan vs Australia test series.

9nly england team can make it match of it by bazz ball approach.Rest of the teams have don't have it in , they will play traditional old test match

Needed some one like Pant or even a Shastri/Kohli at the helm to make a match of this.

true.
Miss Rishabh here. In such situations he would have lit up the stadium with 50 off 70 odd or something.
Miss Bharat Arun as our bowing coach
miss Sridhar as our fielding coach
Miss Ravi overall...
the current TM does not look a patch on those named above. Throw in our pathetic pitches and our ageing team with no quality replacements on the horizon....not very +ve for the immediate future...

Just 3 wickets lost for 250 runs - looking like a slow draw for now. No real push from India.

Tuk tuk Rahul u still the worst :)))

Virat Kohli and his fans deserve this century

Expecting 75 thousand :)

Test match cricket is dying even in India. If there are no crowds for India vs Australia on a weekend, then there is no hope for the format.

Crowds may still be better than those in any country not named England/Australia but the inexorable push towards its death cannot be stopped.

Can't blame India for batting at this rate . Wickets will tumble if they look to bat any quicker. Only hope is to bat 138 overs and score 430 odd more and ask Aus to chase around 240 off 50 .

If pitch crumbles by then, there is a 1% chance of India win.

I would put lack of test match attendance to two factors :
BCCI does not care for the comfort of the the backside on seat. It wont be much fun to park your car about 5-6 kms away and pass through hoops to reach the stadium only to be told u can only buy the overpriced food and drinks inside. And yeah in 35 deg + heat with no roof overhead, its not exactly paradise. but the BCCI cementheads dont care.
If they did, they would have handled the cancellation of the Dharmshala test better not just thrust it at the last minute on unspecting paying fans.
The pathetic pitches are not helping either.
We either have pitches which do everything from first day first session or nothing at all till end of third day as seen in this series. We need to find the balance.
Lastly, TC is not marketed well in India as the pinnacle of the sport. there is just too much cricket played.
in another 10 days the IPL hungama will start and that is a bloated elephant that needs trimming big time.
Unless we adress issues head on, we are not gonna progress. BCCI has to take the lead but expecting this is too much from those Gadzillion guzzling creeps.

The third day of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy saw Australia bowlers work hard with little success, as India erased a substantial chunk of their deficit.

India v Australia scorecard
Shubman Gill (128), Virat Kohli (59*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (42) made the most of a good batting wicket, helping the hosts to 289/3 at stumps.

India batters have their say in favourable conditions

In the morning, Gill and Rohit Sharma found little trouble to get going on a track which stayed true to its nature. Australia pacer Mitchell Starc bore the brunt of their aggression, as he was taken apart for 26 runs in merely three overs.

India lost their first wicket against the run of play, when Rohit hit a full Matthew Kuhnemann delivery in the air towards the cover region. Marnus Labuschagne held on to a straightforward catch at short extra cover as the India skipper walked back at 35.

Rohit crossed 17,000 international runs during the course of his innings.

Hereafter, Pujara joined hands with Gill to stitch together a comfortable partnership of 113 runs. Pujara followed his usual watchful approach during his 42.

Pujara went on to cross 2000 Test runs against Australia. He becomes only the fourth India batter after Sachin Tendulkar (3630), VVS Laxman (2434) and Rahul Dravid (2166) to achieve this landmark.

Gill, on the other hand, took the more proactive approach. He opened his arms against Cameron Green in the 57th over after a relatively quiet period of play.

The Punjab batter added 64 runs in the partnership.

Gill went on to score his second Test century, and the first at home, with a sweep against Todd Murphy in the 62nd over.

Kohli came to the wicket after Pujara fell to Murphy in the same over. The batter took his time to settle in, and then got amongst runs.

Kohli hit five boundaries during his innings of 59*. This was the Delhi batter's first half-century in Tests since his 79 at Cape Town in January 2022.

For Australia, Nathan Lyon (1/75), Kuhnemann (1/43) and Murphy (1/45) finished with a wicket apiece.

Game is heading toward a draw.

Gill seems to be in great form. Next Kohli perhaps.
