It's really interesting how cricket fans from different parts of the world have their own take on their favorite players. Take Shubman Gill, for instance. He's been performing exceptionally well in the ODIs and is currently ranked as the second-best batter globally. Impressive, right? But you might notice that we Indians don't boast about his ranking as much as our Pakistani friends talk about Babar Azam being the top-ranked ODI batter.
Some of us even suggest moving Gill down the order because of his occasional struggle against the moving ball, and we're pretty critical of his batting, even though he consistently racks up runs. Remember his fantastic 91 runs in the Gabba Test while chasing against the Aussies? That was a game-changer and something Babar Azam is yet to do against Australia in Australia.
But here's the question: Why do Pakistanis seem to have this special obsession with Babar Azam, often putting him on a pedestal above players like Kohli, Smith, Root, and even the legendary Bradman? What is it about Babar Azam that makes him stand out in terms of winning major trophies for his team, to the point where some treat him like the second coming of Bradman?
Let's not forget that in his relatively short career, Shubman Gill has delivered more impactful innings than Babar Azam has managed. So, maybe it's time to step back from obsessing over Babar Azam's first-place ODI ranking and realize that Gill is not too far behind. In India, we tend to value a player's contribution to the team's success rather than just their personal milestones.
It's all part of the beauty of cricket, the endless debates, the passion, and the unwavering support for our favorite players. So, what do you think? Is Babar Azam truly the best, or does Shubman Gill deserve more recognition? Let's have a friendly debate!
