Has the blowback started? Many prominent sikhs have joined the white nationalists in their fight against Muslims, but did they understand who they were getting in bed with?

@Rajdeep

I know you are a big supporter of Tommy Robinson and his ilk, how does this make you feel?

A Sikh woman who reported she was raped in a “racially motivated attack” has spoken out to thank people for their support.

The victim, reported to be aged in her 20s, told officers a racist remark was made to her during the sexual assault in the Tame Road area of Oldbury, West Midlands, on Tuesday.

The Sikh Federation UK said the perpetrators allegedly told the woman “You don’t belong in this country, get out”.

West Midlands Police said the man was detained on Sunday evening and remains in custody. The force previously said they were looking for two white men in connection with the attack.

The incident has raised concerns by the Sikh community about the “current racist political environment” in the UK.

The incident took place in the Tame Road area of Oldbury (Google Maps)
On Saturday, the woman, who remains anonymous, issued a statement through Sikh Youth UK, thanking everyone for their “love and support”.

"We are going through a lot, but the strength and kindness shown by the right people in the community has been incredible and I can't thank them enough for being my voice,” the statement read.

"I would never wish this on anyone. All I was doing was going about my day on my way to work, and what has happened has deeply affected us."

She said the police are “doing their best” to find those responsible and added: “There has been so much love and support, and I am truly humbled. I want to personally thank my family, Sikh Youth UK who have been so supportive, the local Gurdwara committees and Sikh orgs, and everyone in my community who has stood by me.

"I cannot thank you enough for helping me get through this difficult time."

Dabinderjit Singh, the lead executive for political engagement at the Sikh Federation UK, said the attack took place in “broad daylight on a busy road” and that Sikh Youth UK is supporting the victim and her family.

An emergency meeting took place at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara temple nearby after the attack, according to Sky News, with members of the community expressing concern over safety.

“Politicians from all political parties should have zero tolerance for all violent racist attacks,” Mr Singh said.

“The current racist political environment is driven by popularism and created by politicians playing the anti-immigration card who are unashamedly exploiting those with right-wing and racist views.”

Gurinder Singh Josan, the Labour MP for Smethwick, said the “truly horrific attack” was being treated as a hate crime.

He said: “I have now spoken with the Borough Commander Chief Supt Kim Madill and am reassured Sandwell Police are doing everything they possibly can to find the perpetrators.

“The incidence is being treated as a hate crime. The police are working extremely sympathetically with the victim at her pace who has been traumatised by the attack.”

Anyone with useful information about what happened should contact West Midlands Police via 101, quoting log 798 or 9 September.

Chickens coming home to roost?

An influential Sikh youth group has been accused of associating with far-right English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson and allegedly acting to “propagate hatred towards Muslims”.

Sikh Youth UK has arranged for a film allegedly portraying Muslim men as predatory sex groomers to be shown at university campuses and Sikh community centres throughout the UK.

It has welcomed Tommy Robinson to one screening, prompting another Sikh group to say it is causing more concern than the Sikh branch of the EDL, because it is accepted within the community and therefore better able to influence it.

It seems like OP is celebrating this because some people non related support a political group.....

Terrible tragedy, thoughts and prayers to the poor woman and her family.

No one is celebrating do you see any party emojis anywhere?

This is a serious thread, if you don't want to address it then by all means stay out.
Your are celebrating it. You dont care about the rape that took place, just using it as way to score brownie points..
No need to pretend here

He does he show that he cares? Would you like a crying emoji? If the rape has political dimensions should he not mention it, Would you like him to avoid that dimension?

Its point scoring basically. Not giving a crap about the rape, just saying oh look a member of your community was raped, too bad for not supporting my favourtie party.

Interestingly no one knows who the victim supported in politics.

Are you saying that pointing out to Inds that they too can be victims of the racism of the far right the Hindutuva fully support shouldn't be done.

The audacity of telling someone who comes from a lineage of a population that your own ancestors looted off of trillions, laying the entire land in poverty that they have no choice but to move overseas to start a new life- and now you get to tell them to get out of your country? The country which has its wealth due to all those centuries of leeching?

Incredible, really. Right wing movement in UK is the biggest bunch of hypocrite buffoons of all time. Have zero right to kick out anyone from UK. You brought immigration upon yourselves after benefitting off of others and enslaving others for centuries, and then leaving their lands in tatters that now they have no choice but to move to yours. Didn’t you even force countless Indians etc to fight your world wars? Now enjoy having your culture erased as more and more Asians move in.

Condolences to the woman here, one of the lowest of all forms of crimes anyone can commit is sexual assault, may the perpetrators’ tool boil and fall off in pain.

Some context is key.

OP is making the point that right wing Indians are holding hands with racists at the expense of Muslims/Pakistanis in the UK. We keep making the point that Indians will also suffer at the hands of racists.

No amount of hiding behind anti-Muslim hatred will save them.

Correct. This is not understood by people who live in the subcontinent or immigrants to the west. Most of them aren't in tune with political barometer in western countries because they don't live here, or if they are immigrants, live in their own desi bubble and don't really mix on a deeper level with the locals.

All their understanding comes from interactions online or social media, so they assume everything is superficial or about point scoring.

Tragic. The poor girl is only 20 years old walking in her local park to be assaulted in such a disgusting way by two grown white men shouting racist abuse. The Sikhs in Birmingham area wont take this lightly and you will now see a large group from various minorities patrolling local areas and if they catch any racists, they will give them a good hiding.

The OP has a point , as even in the UK there are a few Sikhs who support those who hate their skin colour and culture but its more Hindu extremists who support such fascists, even knowing one day they could turn on them or their families.

Winter is coming, darker days so women of ethnic origin should be careful walking alone but overall the UK is a safe place, this is a very rare incident but serious

The Smethwick/Sandwell/Oldbury area in general has one of the biggest % of Sikh people in the country and muslim as well to be fair, Sikh’s here are very proud & don’t support white nationalist, you get some idiots in the East Midlands as the EDL originated from there, but not down here, all the minority ethnic groups are united against the far right and wont hesitate to fight back against these cowards.

On the surface this ought to send shockwaves through our community, but that part of Oldbury away from the inner city regions is quiet rundown, unemployment / lack of education is high & the main group of people are white living in council flats on benefits; don’t want to berate them for that alone, but this recipe can also shape some of the worst helmets in the country.

These pu$$ies got nothing better to do and are so thick, the force need to punish the criminals severely or else there will be riots.

It’s on the way to Merry Hill, that road and the one next to it is a deprived white area , the far-right feeds on such an environment. There are some isolated parks there which need to be avoided (some don’t even appear on maps), maybe she was new to that area. Oldbury in general is fine but I wouldn’t get closer & closer to the black country, stay in areas which still have a decent mix of people and women should never travel alone. Heck, when Tolkien lived here, he used that region for the inspiration of Mordor in Lord Of The Rings, absolute kutheh have always lived there.

I thought that initially but there is a large section of Pakistani society who are disaffected with life at home and look with yearning eyes to the west and as Indians also do this, their views often align. I don't blame them for this, there is a lot of problems with the subcontinent, but these people have very little idea of genuine western sentiment. They just see the glamorous side and many achievements, they have no idea about working man's life or travails here.

Ive drove past it many times but never walked this area but yes this is a low grade part of West Brom area, which has improved over the last decade. I think they have arrested one person but the cops are working slowly imo, there cant be too many knuckelhead racist scumbags who were walking the area on the day. Also these kind of scm usually have criminal records so dna searchers should find one of them. Birmingham is prob the safest city for minorities overall, they far right will never dare to walk into the streets of the inner city areas, so people in Bham shouldnt be too alarmed or worried, carry on with their lives but be vigilant in such srub lands areas if you're a female or an old person.

seems like he has the desi syndrome of "abroad hai to paisa to bahot hoga"

You probably wont get any Indian from India(barring one ) on this forum who will condemn this. Its confusing for them now, do they condemn an attack on an ethnic Indian women done by those they have cheered for and continue to do so?

I started off life in a rough white area, although family moved out of there quite quickly by the time I was 7. But I saw enough to see the other side which most desis online can't even imagine. The clueless dweebs think everything is Harry Potter or James Bond.

Which is why I tagged @Rajdeep because he is a big supporter of Tommy Robinson, but when he gets shown this stuff he does a runner. Like he did in the thread about Indians getting abuse in Australia.

He was concerned recently (about his own safety) so started a thread. I did reply to him with some sincere advise, he will stand out as an Indian immigrant due to his hairstyle, dress style and his accent. The biggest irony is those who are fresh immigrants standing with racists only for those racist to attack them.

They think these white supremacists are on their side. LOL.

They are delusional with no moral compass.

Correct, this thread was created more to score points against me since I busted OPs bubble multiple times rather than any genuine concern about this specific rape incident. Looks like I am living rent free in OPs head 24*7 :ROFLMAO:

By his own admission, he works at Tesco and he was gloating about his manager once complimented him on his English.

I think that pretty much sums up the state of him.

That is your thinking. No one expects white supremacists (whatever that means) to be on our side neither we want them to be. We tend to agree with them that Islamists are the biggest threat to human civilization. In that line of thinking we are one.

I thought after 13th Sept...you and your ilks will not ask such silly questions

#FightFightFight

2nd post on this thread and still no condemnation of this disgusting racist attack on an ethnic Indian young lady?

Please dont say she deserves because the far right are correct?

Exactly, some Indians are so anti immigration to the point that they scold their own for immigrating when they are over subscribed in this area. We’ve see it on this site, they’re living a life of insecurity and contradiction.

You’re not that important, you’re the textbook Indian living abroad. We pity you and laugh.

We see many of these self-loathing Indians on Speakers Corner.

The other week, on my way back from work, I was listening to LBC Radio. The debate was about whether the Union Flag is a symbol of patriotism or if it carries hidden racist connotations. A black caller came on and said he proudly supports flying the Union and English flags. His point was clear: slavery is in the past, and we have to move forward. If the majority feel flying that flag makes them happy, then let them.

The anchor, a bit surprised, pushed back: “But a majority from your community don’t see it that way. Do you get called a traitor or a brown-noser for saying this?”

Now, this reminds me a lot of what happens here with some Pakistani posters. They seem to think that anyone with brown skin who stands for truth, or who supports what’s right, is automatically “brown-nosing” or “bootlicking” a white person.

Here’s my stance: I couldn’t care less if someone is black, white, brown, or blue. What matters is ideology. I have my own eyes, my own ears, and my own judgment about what’s going on. I don’t buy into stereotypes.

Of course, you don’t have to agree with me and that’s fine. We can agree to disagree. But dismissing someone’s view just because of their skin color or community label isn’t debate, it’s prejudice.

Two posters have been critical and both have attacked the messenger instead of the message. Classic case of ad hominem responses where the posters are taking everything personally. If we all did this there would be no topics up for discussion on PP.

This was a topical discussion very much the centre of news over the last few days in the UK. If anyone feels it is in bad faith then report to the mods and they can take action. Otherwise don't participate if the subject matter doesn't fit your agenda.

The lack of empathy or zero condemnation speaks a lot more. Its strange but fascinating an immigrant from India would support racists attacking someone of Indian ethnicity.

Its like the Natives of America dressing their babies as cowboys while they are shooting at them from a distance.

Terrible News. Guilty individual should Rot behind bars for Good And should be available 365 days a year for service to the LGBTQ community's needs.

Boy. He will soon Regret this.

This is just a false premise to begin with. Why would anyone associate the Union flag with hidden racism? It makes me question why such a debate was set up that way in the first place.

You support the Union Jack? If I had ever immigrated to UK instead of states I wouldn't be able to respect that flag.

Unfortunately when you open the pandoras box to the far right you unleash a stream of racism which cannot be controlled or directed.

Their ultimate aim is to target all non whites. Seeking alliances with these morons will not work in the long run.

I’m old enough to remember people using English flags during Euro 2004, taxi drivers, shops, restaurants all had the flag flying without any encouragement from anyone. We had something to be proud of. These days it’s just a bunch of coke heads, chavs, Zionists, counter protesting Palestinian solidarity with a few Indians or brown people trying to fit in so they don’t get deported.

It’s been hijacked and you’re the useful idiot.

Sad state of affairs, Sikhs faced lot of racism even back in the day ,the olden generation were atleast sensible and created sense of belonging and pushed for education in the community, have really low hopes from the millennials , seeing the article though hoping that is changing(Sikh Youth) guess Gen Z might be better than I think.

1. Look in the mirror. A brown Indian immigrant in UK (without citizenship) cannot be right wing. :ROFLMAO:

2. Why did your right wings imaginary friends rape this women? Have a guess?

And then you call others 'racists'.

You guys are poster boys of hypocrisy who refuse to accept opposing views.

What about Indians who are No.1 in sex crimes in UK now in the recently published figures.
They should be deported or jailed, my political orientation would have nothing to do with law of the land and that would even include theft robbery tax evasion.

In the UK to be considered FAR RIGHT , you have to be white skin. Not only are you not white skinned, you're likely to be of a darker brown complexation. Your accent is deep Indian, your dress is not European etc.

Whatever our disagreements , please do not attend a far right rally in the UK expecting flowers, they will beat you up and likely urinate on you.

Btw was this you recently in Australia? My apologise to bro @Romali_rotti I thought it was him!

@Rajdeep probably already purchased a confederate flag.
In my mind that's the second most hated flag, luckily even in Texas I haven't seen it anywhere as Texas flag is allowed to fly as high as the national one.

I would still follow all the laws of the land but would never be able to support the Union Jack ,I can understand why first-second generation will support Union Jack though

I have right wing ideology...I sit in that side of political spectrum like my brown brother Zia Yusuf.

I’ve seen it in New York, just take a trip out to rural NY and you'll spot it in the wild. Surprised you haven’t seen it in Texas though, you'd think it’d be a standard there.

Yeah I think Texas cares more about Texas than otherstuff so Texas flags everywhere. Surprised about NY

Far Right? Now you are speaking like BBC.

I have right wing ideology...I sit in that side of political spectrum like my brown brother Zia Yusuf.
Can you describe it, what do you find about it that resonates with you?

Let me guess, anti-Islamism. You can barely spell it yet alone begin to explain its nature or origin.

I associate union jack with colonialism, why wouldn't I?

Perhaps for someone from India that is what it represents. But in Britain most people have grown up without any identity of colonialism, it is only mentioned in history lessons. The average Brit probably has no idea why the flag is made up of those colours or what they represent. Until fairly recently they weren't even aware that there was a separate flag for England from the one which represents the United Kingdom.

This thread is not about me, brother. That’s why I was reluctant to post and open a can of worms until I got tagged here multiple times. Everyone has a political ideology. People with a leftist or communist mindset will align with left-wing ideology and parties irrespective of the country they live in. I have many Indian friends in the UK who are from Kerala and staunch leftists. Even in the UK, they are Jeremy Corbyn supporters. Similarly, people like me, who are Modi supporters and right-wingers, keep the same ideology whether we are in India, Britain, America, or Timbuktu.

However, I know where people like you are coming from and why this concept is so hard to digest for your ilk. Back in Pakistan, you are all right-wingers, albeit ignorantly. Leftism, Marxism, and gay pride have no place in your parts of the world. So, in Pakistan you want majoritarian politics with limited or no rights for minorities. But the moment you step overseas and find yourself as a minority, suddenly you wrap yourselves in leftist ideology because it benefits your position in the West.

That, my friend, is what I call opportunism and hypocrisy. Don’t expect everyone else to flip sides depending on the postcode they live in. Some of us stay consistent.

What are you on about, I asked you why you resonate with it?

What does being right wing in India have to do with being right wing in England? Give an answer.

This Einstein supports the right wing in England throwing him out of the country he’s currently living in.

If you’re so right wing make sure you kick yourself out of the UK voluntarily. Show us you’re a true patriot 😂.

Probably don’t even have a passport yet and going on marches.

I understand that for first second generation.. as someone that grew up in South of India belonging to Panjabi ethnicity it would be very tough to respect that flag as both my core identities were colonized/exploited by ones waving that flag.

My point is mostly for people immigrating to England from South Asia, the Fresh ones.

This is the sentiment that these type of Indians are latching onto, and why so many Sikhs who publicly gave it their backing from an Islamophobic angle are now realising the terrible mistake they have made. Anti-Islam is the thin end of the wedge for the Tommy Robinsons of the world. Those fudge brownies who have latched onto the movement should have understood that doesn't curry them any favours down the line. No pun intended.

It’s as far their thinking goes, if I’m subservient and abide by the laws and regulations I’ll be fine but there’s an inherent racial tension within right wing thinking. It’s all hierarchies and purity.

Why are you as an Indian trying to get between those who were your tormentors and colonisers?

People like @Rajdeep were probably the informant type rather than revolutionary. Feeding grapes to Robert Clive et al.

I am not following your argument at all. If you are a Muslim, you will be Muslim everywhere, be in Pakistan or England. Similarly if someone has certain ideology, they will remain the same everywhere. If one changes it based on location and convenience, he or she is a hypocrite. Nothing wrong with that but dont expect everyone to be the same. I have voted for Reform and Nigel Farage in last election because they are aligned with my right wing ideology.

So you support an ideology or identify with people who probably don’t like your kind or your culture or religion for the sake of what, ideology?

You’re an immigrant here not an immigrant in India.

You’re trying to be smart when it’s beyond you. Use logic instead.

Thanks for thinking of me bro.

I ponder about your safety as well when I see videos from speakers corner 😇...
