In response to this report:

"Living in Pakistan is like living in jail,"

"I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me. And I stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. Even I was mentally tortured but by the grace of God I somehow escaped from Pakistan."

Simon Doull clarified to Saj:

Just spoke with Simon Doull. He denies reports quoting him as saying he was not allowed to go out in Pakistan as Babar Azam fans were waiting for him and that he stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. "These allegations are baseless. There is no source to them whatsoever"

"I never said anything like that - I did get some messages as you saw, and as everybody saw on my Instagram after what I said about Babar, I posted one of those on Instagram, and I got as much love as I got hatred for it as well."

"Obviously I had a chat to Babar after that, which we talked about on the podcast. But there is zero base to any of these articles or any of this allegation at all"

"I haven't talked to anyone about Pakistan apart from you"

"I mean, I absolutely loved it there. God, I talked so highly about everything and, I don't know where this come from"

"Apparently it's been picked up from a tweet that someone has written, but I'm not on Twitter anymore,

"I've been blocked out of Twitter since the 19th of February"

"It's probably a made-up account that has said something, and then the the journalists have picked it up, but you can absolutely 100% quote me and say that you have just talked to me now and they are baseless allegations"

"Zero truth to them as I love Pakistan and I love India, I love working in both countries"

"I don't have any agenda. I never have had an agenda"

"I travel anywhere in the world to do my job to the best of my ability"

"I don't have or I don't play favourites as I think people who listen to my commentary or listen to me talk about cricket would well and truly know"

"I just speak my mind, and this hasn't made me feel overly comfortable but hopefully people can understand that it is certainly not me and it is certainly not something I have said or ever would have said"

As a commentator he is entitled to his views. If this is true then it is really a shameful incident.

the biggest change ive seen in pakistani fans over the last decade or so is the importing of this celebro-god worship culture of certain cricketers.

when i was younger ppl used to chat negatively about every single player, openly, and u rarely got people getting offended to the level babars army of social media "supporters" do.

doull's words are a bit harsh, but tbh some of the adoration afforded to these guys is nauseating. ppl forget they are humans and not beyond criticism.

No, what's shameful is media outlets reporting these as accurate before verifying them and checking if he actually said it.

Absolutely shameless misquoting from the clickbait loving media outlets.

I think Simon should come clean and rubbish these claim himself either in his twitter feed or during live IPL commentary. This news is all over Indian media and in every news channel - Republic TV, India Today, NDTV, Times Now etc. Excellent work by Saj to have clarified it but if Doull stays quiet then the suspicion will only increase that there is no smoke without fire. Just like Nasser Hussain rubbishes fake news from his twitter feed after the Ind-Pak Wt20 game, Simon Doull must do the same and expose Indian media.

Doul is highly demanded in both India and Pakistan. No way will he burn his bridges in either countries.

"I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me" :)))

For a news source to take this seriously tells you all you need to know about their credibility.

Did you even read the OP? You are giving credit to Saj for clarifying it but haven't read what Doull said?

This is what he said:

"I've been blocked out of Twitter since the 19th of February"

"It's probably a made-up account that has said something, and then the the journalists have picked it up, but you can absolutely 100% quote me and say that you have just talked to me now and they are baseless allegations"

And why should he rubbish these claims during live IPL commentary and feed the troll indian media? That fake statement was regarding Pakistan and he has already clarified it in OP. :inti

He doesn't use twitter like it says above.

Doul is highly demanded in both India and Pakistan. No way will he burn his bridges in either countries.

But prior to the IPL, you were quite adamant about Doull being silent when it came to criticising Indian players particularly Kohli. What's changed since then?

This fake news was most probably made up by an andhbhakht. Some of them love to make fun of Pakistan using 'food' and 'atta' jokes these days. :inti

India media probably is the least credible out there. Shows the quality of journalism when their regular news look like straight out of the onion.

He has rubbished them. To me as I asked him. Just like Indian media could and should have done.

The incredible thing is that some pretty big Indian media outlets published articles using the quotes without verifying them.

That is incredibly unprofessional.

Same indian media portrayed Abhinandan as a Hero some years ago, what a day that was lol when i switched to pak channel, some Village people were giving him "phainta" and Pak army rescued him, i laughed so hard that day, i switched back again to ind channel and Modi was live giving Mubarak to janaata lol so Simon has to clarify everything to Saj that these stories are rubbish and he never said that :)

LOL there were people who thought that statement was true? I saw that statement in the morning and laughed it off. The give away was stayed in Pakistan without food.....

Looks like the joke went over the heads of the Indians.

Should give credit to whoever came up with the fake quotes. Babar Azam fans were waiting for him :))) :)))

Indian media spread a 'fake' interview of Simon Doull about Babar Azam while quoting Geo News.

Doull, who commentated during Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 8, faced massive criticism after he criticised Babar's strike rate. The Kiwi commentators even received abusive comments in his inbox. One of such comments was also shared by him on social media.

Twitter was taken by a storm on Thursday evening after some Indian channels began to assert that Doull had termed his stay in Pakistan as “hell” due to threats from Babar fans.

To add credence to their claim, they cited Geo News as the source of their report.

Immediately, cricket fans in India began to make the news viral, as Pakistani fans began to to defend their country.

The question stands: Did Doull say that to Geo News?

The answer: Neither did Doull make such a statement regarding his stay in Pakistan, nor did Geo News report such a comment.

For further clarity on the matter, a UK-based sports reporter Saj Sadiq reached out to Doull.

According to Sadiq, Doull said he “absolutely loved” his stay in the country.

Taking to Twitter, Sadiq said: “Just spoke with Simon Doull. He denies reports quoting him as saying he was not allowed to go out in Pakistan as Babar Azam fans were waiting for him and that he stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. He says that he absolutely loved his time in Pakistan.”

How it started?

Apparently, the claims made by the Indian media outlets were based on a falsified graphic post which stated: “Living in Pakistan is like living in jail. I was not allowed to go out as Babar Azam fans were waiting for me. And I stayed in Pakistan without food for many days. Even I was mentally tortured but by the grace of God I somehow escaped from Pakistan.”

Geo News had denied any association with the making or circulation of the post and the comments they ascribe to Doull.

Hats off to the genius that baited every India media house :))

True colours exposed for the umpteenth time

Oh, if it’s all over Indian media then it has to be credible :)))

India has the trashiest and most despicable media outlets in the world. Them picking up a story, that too about Pakistan, should be a reason enough to disregard the story. Doull doesn’t need to expose the Indian media; its gutter journalism is a well known fact.

what a weird post. The guy literally denied that being said to Saj when asked.

Maybe Indian media could had done the simple thing of asking Simon that did he said that, instead of broadcasting unverified news. I believe Simon was in India at the time too..

Seems like VK fans were more hurt than Babar fans to come up with rubbish like this

No, what's shameful is media outlets reporting these as accurate before verifying them and checking if he actually said it.

Absolutely. If it is Indian media then I can tell you they can stoop to any level and anything where you bash up Pakistan, in any way, sells in India. People are fools and they take advantage of such fools.

When most fair-minded people could not believe the quote when they saw it, India media houses had no qualms dumping the story out because it sounded like something they wanted to believe. No attempt was made by these guys to contact Simon Doull or even hold back to confirm.

This is the really shameful part and speaks volumes.

We have spoken to Simon and he has called these reports "Rubbish"

Quite clearly written by someone from the subcontinent. The way they constructed that last sentence "Even I"..People from English speaking countries don't talk like that.

Just read it in your brain with an Indian accent. Clearly no way a kiwi talks like that..

Hardly surprising it's the same accounts on here that immediately believe anything posted that paints a negative image of Pakistan.

Yet won't post again after a clarification :))

What makes it even more bizarre is that Doull was not in Mars or Jupiter, he was in India - the local media there could have verified the story directly with him. Instead they wanted to get the story out there to tarnish Pakistan's reputation as soon as possible.

With what's currently happening in Pakistan and the political and national upheaval, it's easy to start throwing dirt.

Unfortunately even our own people believe the lies because they can't be bothered to do their research.

Happens all too often now.
