Sindh (141/2) cruise to an 8-wicket over KPK (140) to win the National T20 Cup

There is a tendency to hype cricketers if if they are young. Qasim akram is a case in point. No where near good enough atm.

Ihsanullah is a 90 mph bowler, unfortunately was injured in the PSL.

He isn’t 90mph but he definitely extracts a lot of bounce

The kind of guy who will be scary to face on South African or Australian wickets

An unbeaten half-century by Haris Sohail and two sixes in the 20th over from Amad Butt guided Balochistan to a five-wicket win over Northern in the 25th fixture of the Kingdom Valley National T20 Cup 2022-23 here at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Thursday.

Requiring 13 off the final over bowled by Zaman Khan, right-handed Amad clubbed first two deliveries for maximums to help his side overhaul the 169-run target with three balls to spare. Amad returned undefeated on 15 from six balls.

Balochistan were well in course to achieve the target as they scored above seven runs an over in the powerplay losing only Haseebullah (eight off 11, one four) in the fourth over. The departure of Ali Waqas (19 off 15, two fours, one six) and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai (27 off 17, three fours, one six) in quick succession had put breaks on the run chase. Shan Masood - who has scored two half-centuries in the tournament failed to make an impact in the match as he had to return back to the pavilion on run-a-ball 11, which included one four.

After the departure of Shan in the 11th over with 76 runs on the board, left-handed Haris was joined by another left-hander Hussain Talat. The pair knitted 68 runs for the fifth wicket before Hussain was dismissed by Zaman for 31 from 22 balls, smashing four fours. An unbroken partnership of 25 runs from just 11 balls between Amad and Haris helped Balochistan to their fifth win in the tournament. Mubasir Khan scored 29 and added 73 runs for the fifth wicket with Umar after Northern wobbled at the top of the innings when they slumped to 47 for four.

Later in the evening, Central Punjab will take on Sindh in the 26th fixture of the tournament.

Excellent innings of sharjeel comes to an end after eating the whole power play and getting out for 13 off 19.

Saim is a very fine prospect

But Is too front footed. Doesn’t move his backfoot against short balls and finds it difficult when cramped for room. Needs some work.
Definitely a good prospect though.

And loves to play offside. Probably most talented youngster in Pakistan along with Haider Ali.

Saud gets out but nice to see him play well after struggling early on. Obviously not a T20 player but hopefully he has a great FC season and plays Test matches vs England & NZ.

It’s a shame that talentless players like imam have played test cricket before Saud who is very classy

Saim reminds me of a young and gifted Salman Butt. He is a class off side player!

Chris Gayle was right about him, this kid has a very bright future

Stats wise, not too Shabby either. He’s 2nd highest run getter at 334 runs in 10 games. He also has the highest s/r amongst the top ten batters at 152. For comparison, Sharjeel has scored 264 runs in 10 games at a s/r of 137

The guy has the aura of something special. We don't know if he can move the ball or has the brain cells and temperament to deal with pressure. But he has real potential with his height and pace

Honestly seeing the kpk attack with likes of Ihsanullah and Arshad Iqbal and it's good enough to be an international attack...and these guys are nowhere in the pecking order as of now.

If only we had half as much batting talent.

After being put into bat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa openers Farhan and Rehan Afridi provided a solid 71-run start. After the dismissal of right-handed Farhan for 102 in the 19th over, the defending champions managed to add only seven in the final over to end up scoring 175 for the loss of three wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Experienced Junaid Khan was Balochistan’s pick of the bowlers with two for 34.

Chasing 176 to win, Balochistan lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 137 in the 17th over. Haris Sohail coming to bat at number five top-scored with a 30-ball 47, studded with five fours and two sixes.

Ejaz Ahmed has single handedly undone the work that Mohammad Waseem had put in to make a decent northern side. This Northern team looks so clueless.

Multan, 17 September 2022: Three wickets off three balls (one run-out) from Mehran Mumtaz’s first over – 10th over of the innings and 40 unbeaten runs from Sohail Tanvir proved game changer for Northern as they defeated Southern Punjab by three runs to qualify for the semi-final in the 30th fixture of the Kingdom Valley National T20 Cup 2022-23 at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Saturday evening.

Southern Punjab – that were set a modest 130-run target by Northern were well in course to achieve the target as they were 58 for two at the end of the ninth over. Introduction of left-arm spinner Mehran in the 10th over put brakes on their run-chase as Mehran got Salman Ali Agha (one off three) lbw on the first ball he bowled. The next ball he sent Sharoon Siraj (first ball duck) lbw without troubling the score. On a hat-trick ball, the direct throw from Usman Khan Shinwari was enough to send back non-striker Sohaib Maqsood (eight off seven, one four) back to the pavilion.

After the quick dismissals of Southern Punjab’s batters, Northern were never in position to stage a comeback. Hasan Ali (26 not out off 16) – who was playing for the first time in the tournament struck two sixes and one four to give Southern Punjab a glimpse of hope, but Southern Punjab fell four runs shy of the target and were send packing from the tournament.

Mehran, Usman Khan Shinwari and Zaman Khan bagged two wickets apiece for Northern.

In the first semi-final table toppers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take on Northern, while Sindh will face Central Punjab in the second semi-final. Both semi-finals will be played tomorrow at the Multan Cricket Stadium and PTV Sports will broadcast the matches live while it be live streamed on the PCB YouTube channel.

Earlier, after a 15-minute delayed start due to dust storm, Umar Amin’s decision to bat first didn’t go down well as Northern wobbled at the top of the innings when they slumped to 83 for seven in the 15th over. That Northern were managed to score over 100 was largely because of a 37-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Usman (21 off 16, three fours) and Sohail – who returned undefeated on 40 from 30 balls, smashing three fours and two sixes.

Northern made 129 for eight from their allotted 20 overs.

Hasan was dispatched for a six by Nasir Nawaz on the first ball he bowled, but the right-arm fast made a strong comeback to get Taimoor Sultan lbw for four on the last ball of his first over which went for 11 runs. Right-arm fast Mohammad Ilyas was amongst the wickets again as he took three wickets for 29. He accounted for Nasir (15, 15b, one four, one six), Mubasir Khan (six off five, one four) and Usman. Leg-spinner Ali Majid and right-arm fast Hasan bagged two wickets apiece for 29 and 3o runs, respectively.

Defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won six matches to make their way to the semi-final stage. Sindh, Central Punjab and Northern – all three also qualified for the semi-final were tied on 10 points from 10 matches, but put them ahead of Balochistan (on net run-rate).

Southern Punjab managed to win four matches and languished at the bottom of the table with eight points.

Scores in brief:

Northern beat Southern Punjab by three runs

Northern 129-8, 20 overs (Sohail Tanvir 40 not out, Usman Khan Shinwari 21; Mohammad Ilyas 3-29, Ali Majid 2-29, Hasan Ali 2-30)

Southern Punjab 126-7, 20 overs (Hasan Ali 26 not out, Umar Siddiq 24, Zain Abbas 22; Mehran Mumtaz 2-17, Zaman Khan 2-17, Usman Khan Shinwari 2-31)

His overs are an event. Pretty much every commentator too thinks he has something special about him.
Around 6.5 height, good pace, bounce there's a lot to like.

A 89-run opening wicket partnership between Sahibzada Farhan and Rehan Afridi and 37 runs from Mohammad Sarwar Afridi at the crucial juncture of the match saw defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through to the final after beating Northern by five wickets with one over to spare in the first semi-final of the Kingdom Valley National T20 2022-23 at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Monday’s final will be the third final for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in as many years – that had previously won both finals.

Chasing 165 to win, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa openers Farhan and Rehan provided a flying start to the innings as both right-handed batters scored 57 runs in the powerplay. Wicketkeeper-batter Rehan struck seven fours and one six and top-scored with a 39-ball 54. Farhan – who scored a match winning century against Balochistan the previous day in the 29th fixture of the tournament – scored 39 off 29 balls today, striking two sixes and one four.

For Northern, Zaman Khan struck twice in the 16th over of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s batting when he accounted for Kamran Ghulam (eight off nine) and Adil Amin (three off three) to give a glimpse of hope to Northern – that had staged a perfect comeback last evening against Southern Punjab to qualify for the semi-final. But sensible batting from Sarwar (37, 28b, three fours, one six) helped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to achieve the target in the 19th over.

Earlier, Northern managed 164 for four after opting to bat first. Opening batter Nasir Nawaz was amongst the runs again as he top-scored with 72 off 55 balls, smashing five fours and three sixes. Taimoor Sultan and Nasir stitched a 42-run partnership for the first wicket. After the departure of Taimoor, the right-handed Nasir was joined by his captain Umar Amin (32, 26b, three fours, one six) and the pair added 70 in 52 balls.

Arshad Iqbal was the most successful Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bowler with two for 34, while Mohammad Abbas Afridi and captain Khalid Usman scooped a wicket each.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will face the winners of the second semi-final between Central Punjab and Sindh.

Scores in brief:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Northern by five wickets

Northern 164-4, 20 overs (Nasir Nawaz 72, Umar Amin 32; Arshad Iqbal 2-34)

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 165-5, 19 overs (Rehan Afridi 54, Sahibzada Farhan 39, Mohammad Sarwar Afridi 37; Zaman Khan 2-24)

Player of the match – Rehan Afridi (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)

This tournament has been a pretty dour one. Lacking in coverage, star power, thrilling matches and quality. National t20 tournaments are usually scheduled and arranged well.

A lot of the main players were playing in Asia Cup & in leagues around the world.

Positive thing about that is young players getting opportunities when they wouldn't. Some attendance during Multan leg of the tour too during day/night matches.

Central Punjab absolutely smashing Sindh in the powerplay. It's all a bunch of aerial shots that aren't all that risky due to fielders being within the ring. An approach Pakistan needs to adapt.

Qasim Akram is in with Sindh reining in some control.

Big match and I hope Qasim makes a big score today.

He's looking pretty fluid tonight as well.

His career trajectory has been really strange so far; he was backed to the max in PSL but never looked that impressive to me. Also was the captain of the U-19 team but I could never fathom why did he have that job as he mostly flattered to deceive when it mattered.

But watching him play in the last couple of games, I can understand somewhat why is this guy rated highly by Central Punjab/PCB authorities. He seems to have an all-round game and can go big as well when required. His bowling though is quite underwhelming though; always seems like a part time off-spinner to me.

CP needs to score at least 200 as their bowling IMO is the weakest out of all the teams.

Malik gets out on a half tracker against a spinner. Sindh have a chance to restrict them under 200 now.

Sindh bowling attack is not as potent without Abrar. Clearly missed his ability to bowl in the powerplay & control runs.

Agreed, he's not an allrounder but more of a batter who can bowl part-time. But then again, there's plenty of time for improvement. Afridi was a poor bowler in his early days too but for now, I would like to see him focus on his batting.

Technically, he looks compact, plays cut shots really nicely and has power for a smaller guy. Credit to PCB & coaches/management for continuingly to back his talent. It may not work out but the talent is clearly there and they're giving him all the opportunities to turn that talent into results.

For the first time I saw Zahid Mahmood bowl like a proper, world class leg spinner

Much better than the filth we have seen him bowl at international level

A lot of the main players were playing in Asia Cup & in leagues around the world.

Positive thing about that is young players getting opportunities when they wouldn't. Some attendance during Multan leg of the tour too during day/night matches.

Central Punjab absolutely smashing Sindh in the powerplay. It's all a bunch of aerial shots that aren't all that risky due to fielders being within the ring. An approach Pakistan needs to adapt.

Multan always shows up, bless those ppl. It’s important that they get a full complement of 5 Multan home games this PSL and perhaps the play offs as well

He's bowled a lot more googly's this tournament. He will always be a leaker though. Even in FC, he's giving up nearly 4 runs an over.

Not a great shot selection for Qasim Akram there. Played well but got out playing his favourite shot but the ball was aimed towards the stumps and pitched too up to be cut.

Over-reliance on that cut shot proves to be his downfall. Trying to cut a half-volley; terrible choice.

I think he needs to start performing and repaying the faith in the upcoming QeA trophy/One day tournament. His contemporaries; the likes of Mubasir/Bangalzai/Haseebullah etc. performed better than him last season. His game seems tailor-made for four-day games so dont know why he only scored 3 fifties in 9 matches last season; perhaps shot selection in general had been his downfall, not sure. I know young players need to be given opportunities but they should also show something in return to deserve the continued backing.

I think Zahid had Irfan out earlier but wasn't given. Irfan has made them pay.

He destroyed Sindh earlier in the tournament too. Young player, tall guy and big power hitter. Certainly seems like a guy that PSL teams will pick up.

Poor total by Sindh especially after that start

Tayyab Tahir sucked the momentum out of the innings with his brief stay

Faizan slowed down for his 50 and lost his rhythm in the process.

Malik overconfident with nothing to show for it

Qasim looked good but couldn’t kick on after his great start, a bit of an Umar Akmal innings really.

Yeah there are many viable names for emerging player this time round:

Kpk: ihsanullah
Northern: Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir?, Zaman Khan
Central Punjab: Qasim, Irfan Niazi maybe Ali Afsand
South Punjab: ??
Sindh: Saim Ayub, Zeeshan Zameer
Balochistan: Bangalzai, Haseebullah ( don’t think they’re ready for PSL, but would be good to have Balochi representation)

Here’s hoping the majority of these lads get picked

Yamin with great line & length and gets Sharjeel bowled out.

Very tough chase for Sindh now. If they do it, I think it will have to be because of Saim Ayub.
