New Delhi: Singer Lucky Ali courted controversy after his Facebook post claiming the word “Brahman” was derived from “Abram” was criticised by social media users on Tuesday.

The now deleted post sparked massive backlash that led to Mr Ali issuing an apology just days after posting it.

"The name ‘Brahman' comes from ‘Brahma' which comes from ‘Abram' .. which comes from Abraham or Ibrahim.. The Brahmans are a lineage of Ibrahim. Alaihisalam... The Father of all Nations ... so whys everyone just arguing and fighting without reasoning amongst themselves?” the post read.

In his apology, shared on Tuesday, the 64-year-old singer clarified that his intentions were not to “cause distress or anger” and was instead meant to “bring us all closer together”.

“Dear Everyone, I realise the controversy of my last post. My intentions were not to cause distress or anger amongst anyone and I deeply regret that. My intentions, instead, were to bring us all closer together… but I realise how it didn't come out in the way that I meant it. I will be more aware of what I am posting and of my phrasing as I see now that it has upset many of my Hindu brothers and sisters. For that I am deeply sorry. I Love you all,” he wrote.

Hindus don’t want to be associated with Abraham if faiths at all. Got it!

What is there to apologize? People need to get over it.

Zoroastranism and to some extent the semitic cults have been influenced by Mithraism. Mithraism and Vedic religion share commonalities as Mitra is also one of the Vedic Gods. Ideas would have been exchanged as Persian empire was huge 3000-2000 years ago. I will not be surprised if there is a grain of truth to it. This is how cults evolve.

Presumably he's apologising because it has angered a lot of Hindus and he needs to do some form of damage limitation. Although I would have assumed with Hindu religion being fairly flexible and open to interpretation, this shouldn't really have caused so much consternation.

wow the outrage online against this is unreal. Woke India only seems to respond to Muslim comments

TO be honest, the indian posters did say that Hinduism is flexible.

There are enough morons in India who get outraged by everything. They just scan through twitter tweets and comments to get outraged.
