Sky Sports signs 3-year deal to show Pakistan's home series and PSL

Great news for fans in the UK, must be a filler though as Pakistan cricket and PSL are low quality garbage. Both need to up their game to ensure Sky do not regret their decision.

Getting the PSL on there is a bonus for the PSL, but from Sky's POV I don't think they are losing out in anyway regardless in my view especially when you look at the schedule ahead involving Pakistan/England

Wasim and Mani aren't as cunning and often get mislead which often causes delays but they're beginning to learn how to deal with the rot.

It's called honesty - something which from my experience is in short supply in Pakistan.

I'd been pushing the guys at Sky Sports for a while to get this deal sorted and finally they've done it.

I think the fact that Wasim Khan is at PCB has made a difference.

You can imagine WK using his contacts, and also the goodwill generated by the tour in the summer helped. Sky got some of their biggest audiences ever for cricket in the summer

Saj will sky be using the same broadcasting feed production team used by supersport? Also who is the production that will be broadcasting these home matches and PSL? We are going to get 4k resolution, hot spot and proper speed gun coverage?

Im so curious to know these things, feels like we have come out of the stone ages of cricket but not sure if we really have

PCB will produce the telecast themselves through their own production partners. This will be broadcast on to the channels like Sky and Supersport. I doubt Sky will have their own pundit panel in a London studio like they used to as it seems with their recent cost cutting that’s only reserved for England’s away series.

if thats the case then do we know if Wasim Khan and PCB have sourced a proper production partner and not some decent, average production team? Even though the SPL was a rubbish tournament, the production quality and the HD resolution was as top notch as the IPL was. Im sick of seeing poor quality production from Pakistan!

It will be the same production team that produced last years PSL - Tower Sports and Sportzworkz. One is a company from Singapore I think that’s working alongside a Pakistani based company helping to train them up in broadcasting aswell.

I was watching PSL 5 on Willow here in the US in 1080p (probably you won’t get 4k). It was fantastic. Not sure what resolution you got on Hum Masala.

I thought it was done really well, everything from Spider Cam to on-field mics to the speed gun, to even the opening cinematic with the cricket ball flying around Pakistan. Very professional stuff.

Lots of my cousins are gonna love this. I'm trying to get tickets for this yrs t20''s so maybe I'll bang into a few of you ppers there. I remember watching Pakistan vs England at Lords 92..unfortunately that match was affected by rain but I saw waqar wasim in their prime so that was enough lol..

Then met the 96 squad too..

So the PCB has scored the Super Sports Deal, Sky Sports deal, what other deals are left now for them to secure?

Goodbye Hum Masala!! Watching cricket on there made me start questioning my eyesight - why can't I see the ball? Turns out everyone else had the same experience. That and having dreams about Pepe's chicken after seeing the advert after every, single, over!!

This really is great news for everyone who values their sanity!!

It is a massive market actually. Very underrated. There are plenty of the freeloader type who would watch Pakistan cricket on pirate or the free to view channels, and they will not pay the extra money to buy the legal broadcasting feed such as Sky and BT.

But Pakistan cricket is a massive draw, and a very entertaining team to follow for the British Pakistani community here especially because of the drama that is surrounding this team. Following India and Pakistan is like following Barcelona and Real Madrid amongst the British Asian community I recon. Plus the English audience also love the rivalry with both Asian sides as well.

Pakistan are a vibe bro, don’t let a couple of haters on this forum let make you feel otherwise.

Spot on. England/Pakistan series have a bit of extra bite because Pakistan have always had a sense of 'otherness' that you don't get with the likes of India or Sri Lanka. I grew up watching dominant Pakistan teams that my English friends didn't relish facing much. I remember bringing a newspaper in to work after Shoaib knocked them over in 2006 in one of the ODI's, all of them pretended not to notice it. :91:

I will take more of an interest in these games for sure if they are on Sky, their coverage is night and day compared to PTV. Will be nice to watch in HD for a change.

Yes but you need to be shrewd when dealing with those who have mastered the craft of underhanded practices. Unfortunately Wasim, Mani and the PM himself are having a hard time getting the bureaucracy to function.

The bureaucrats are very crafty at manipulating those with honest intentions. On the other hand, Sethi knew how to get the best out of these lot.

Yeah the PSL production was very good. The recent Zimbabwe series wasn’t great though seems like they cut back on a few things. Hope it’s abit better for the SA series.

But there were characters previously within the PCB hierarchy that put off broadcasters like Sky Sports and have put off other potential companies dealing with Pakistani players in the past.

Sadly it was a poor reflection on Pakistan and it's still an issue for many outside Pakistan.

Good job for your country. If the new revenues are used professionally to develop young players, there should be a big improvement in the quality of the team.

The quality of life in Pakistan based on the salary Wasim is receiving is significantly better than the lifestyle he'd be able to afford on the equivalent compensation in the UK. Comments such as these reflect the ignorance of folks who have never experienced a good lifestyle in Pakistan.

Good lifestyle in Pakistan? An honest man being trashed for just doing his job. A good lifestyle does not only include a fat pay and nice house. But you wouldn’t know that.

I also believe his family is back home in the UK.

Its not that big deal tbh. Sky Sports shows IPL, Carribean league and even Srilanka premier league. So its not that surprising that they decided to show league cricket from a team like Pakistan which has a massive following in UK.

Also, BT Sports has already took away large amount of cricket and other sports from Sky. Live matches from NZ, Aust etc are no longer with Sky and they are desperate for some live cricket.

Rajdeep, the reason why UK PPers are celebrating is because Sky Sports are the leading sports broadcasters in the country. However relations between PCB and Sky were so poor, and scheduling so haphazard they haven't bought the rights for 20 years.

So if you wanted to watch Pakistan home series in the UK, either it wouldn't be shown at all or relegated to some third class desi cooking channel with ads every over. I don't know what the Indian television equivalent would be.

It's a significant stepup, and increases our exposure to English fans who subscribe to Sky for English cricket, which'll in turn add value to our future UK tours.

The position in England that he turned down in England was a pretty high paying one which would have earned him close to a million pounds a year. He would have led a more than comfortable lifestyle in the UK where he had a set social network, family structure.

He moved to Pakistan and compromised on 750,000 less pounds, his family is living in the UK and he's come to an environment where people are attacking him on a daily basis hour his background, his work and the tough decisions he is making. Inspite of that, he wants to serve another 2-3 years after his first contract expires

Not only this, he is also encouraging other well educated and professional overseas Pakistanis to come and offer their services to the PCB. It’s high time people start giving him the respect that he deserves and put aside their egos.

This deal is even more remarkable considering our team is perhaps at its lowest point as our bottom three rankings in all formats confirm

Sky are notorious at moving IPL+non English cricket matches to Sky sports mix which isn’t a HD channel if England Women’s are playing a live match.

This is annoying
That’s not correct. Sky Sports Mix has always been available on HD. It is a channel available as a showcase ‘free’ sports window for people on the regular packs without sky sports. Who’s your provider? It’s channel 416 on Sky.

The Sky sports mix channel I have is not HD. And my provider is SKY. My Sky News is also not HD actually

Do you have Sky Q or sky plus. I get both sky news sports news and mix in HD. I think it depends if you have the basic entertainment in HD as well as Sports HD. You need basic pack in HD to get sky news, sky sports mix (which is not part of sports pack) in HD.

On another note I have never watched cricket or footy in UHD. Does anyone know how much better tat is?

I would love to know how much this deal is worth , I still think the domestic and international players are seriously under paid.

How can a top Pakistan international be making $10,000 a year

Still no official announce by Sky.

PakPassion is saying this so its official enough, and we have confirmed with Sky as well.

We will add more details when they are known

As they buy so much rights they don’t release media statements for each and everyone, especially as this is ‘minor’ rights compared to top events and for top performing teams, and its not England (India or Aus too who are top draws)

They also bought T10 league rights and its just in the schedule.

I envy those who watched the early 2000’s Pak ODI team at the grounds.

90s/early 00s were the best, the "pitch invasion days" , the atmosphere was something else during those games especially when pakistan won. It was curbed and rightly so but brilliant memories. Hopefully this sky deal can revive some interest for Pakistanis living in the UK for cricket, especially while we are locked down and starved of stuff to watch.

All of Watford, all of Luton are green Army.

East London (Walthamstow) is green army also

Southall is mixed Green/Bleed blue

Richmond is Imran Khan Town ;)

Bradford is green,manchester is green
Birmingham is mixed :)

The pitch invasion days were indeed great days, no longer acceptable of course, but they weren't really about causing problems, it was really just a big celebration with lots of noise and colour.

wow great news .well done to wasim khan for getting the deal done.exciting times ahead !.

Absolutely, the sense of anticipation before the final runs/wicket is taken, the false starts, the sprints from the players trying to make it back to the dressing room before getting mobbed. Those really were the days.

There were of course a few i diots that ruined it for the rest of us, but on a whole it was definitely a well intended, light hearted celebration.

Sky has a lot of competition these days with BT Sport and others fighting for the rights to show cricket in the UK. Of course a few years ago Sky was the dominant force, but they now haven't got the budget to bid for some of the big series.

In fact they are missing out on a number of big series, so they've had to look elsewhere.

A few years ago they wouldn't have opted for Pakistan home series, but now that's all changed.

I think sky will lose the rights to England home series in the near future also

Can you expand on this Saj.

And I agree. Wasim Khan seems far more competent than anyone the PCB had prior.

What was happening was that the PCB was a disorganised mess with last minute tours organised which annoyed broadcasters and put them off. On top of that the officials were just not professional or easy to deal with and that also put broadcasters off from bidding for the rights.

Cant be hotstar or any asian channel i guarantee you that. It will be on SKY BT or Amazon thats a defo. England are playing so those channels for sure

My contact at Sky has told me that Sky Sports have not got the India versus England series.

Thats fine Saj has to be BT or Amazon then. Being an england series I cannot see it happening on an Asian channel or Hotstar

Star owns the rights to all India home games, they usually sub contract the rights to overseas broadcasters e.g. Sky Sports. You might have noticed that the last few India home series have been televised on Star Gold/Hotstar. This time round, Sky Sports didn’t agree with the terms (I think it was too expensive for them) so currently, it’s going to be on Hotstar unless BT or Amazon come in for the rights at the last minute.

Come on BT, step up and agree to show the series. It would be a travesty if its on Hostar (what is that) or any other platform.

Also heard or seen somewhere sony has almost inked a deal to telecast Pak home series n PSL in India...it's gr8 news too if happens

Mate - you ain’t genuinely got a clue and obviously trolling for another team. So drop the nonsense. In England - Australian cricket aside from against England is not a top draw hence why BT struck a cut price deal on BBL which is shown at midnight/1am when everyone is asleep. Can’t stand people who make things up to troll Pakistan cricket fans.

Great deal - pushed because we have a credible leader and board. PSL V was a tremendous success and it builds us for the future with Imran, Mani and Wasim at the lead.

Also the English contingent who attended PSL V in Pakistan absolutely loved it so the incentive was there. This is their biggest announcement and they will do it together with the PCB to announce the series.

Outside of T20 blast - this is the tournament to keep an eye if Khan stays PM, as IPL will get exposed with the money laundering hence why you have a load of Indian companies you have never heard of plastered all over their jerseys and branding and why major international names are removing themselves. Change of government might change their course.

If Pakistan gets organised as they have started to, it’s the second biggest market in the world for cricket. After Vitality Blast - PSL is the next most exciting franchise tournament and if they can get the huge uplift of the TV in 2022 (same members need to be in the PCB decision making process) then only a matter of time before the value of Pakistan cricket is realised. Problem has been corruption and mis-management for decades but with Imran that garbage and those crooks are now not calling the shots.

Record domestic deal - international deals in Africa, England and India. Apparently Fox Sports want a deal next for Australia. Middle East to follow. The future is bright.

The Pakistan Cricket Board has joined hands with tapmad TV for streaming of the HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches in Australia, MENA (Middle East and North Africa) regions as well as the RoW* (Rest of the World).

The partnership is another major breakthrough for the PCB as it increases the reach of Pakistan cricket through one of the most popular T20 leagues, the HBL PSL.

This partnership will help further extend the HBL PSL’s coverage while ensuring viewership for the league in the key cricketing markets of MENA and Australia.

With this partnership, the HBL PSL TV and streaming coverage is now extended to North America (Willow TV), Caribbean (Flow Sports), United Kingdom (Sky Sports UK), Sub-Saharan Africa (Super Sports), South Asia (Sony Pictures Network), NZ (Sky NZ), MENA, Australia and RoW (tapmad TV).

The partnership allows for ease of access to fans around the globe, while keeping in mind commercial sustainability of the rights for the PCB and its partner HBL PSL franchises.

The PCB has just gone and decreased accessibility for their product in Australia and the Middle East. The extra money they'll earn from this streaming service will be miniscule in comparison with the benefits of having widespread reach for the casual cricket fan over youtube. The access over youtube would have slowly built an audience, as it did for the IPL in the early years, and allowed the PCB to find a dedicated broadcaster like Fox or Bein in the future.

Freesports sign deal with RDA to show live cricket in the UK free to air.

Following on from the good news that sky sports have signed a deal in the UK to broadcast Pakistan matches and the PSL, Freesports have signed a deal to show various live games free to air, which include pakistans tour to Zimbabwe aswell as Afghanistan matches against various nations.

Thank you so much for this. I knew Zimbabwe vs Afghanistan was on the channel. Didn’t know they got rights for so much series.

The Sourh African T20 domestic tournament was also on the same channel. I hope free sports can get broadcasting rights for South Africa’s series if Sky Sports don’t. Don’t have BT sports. So need it on sky or free to air TV lol.

Where were you for the first 3 psl seasons lol, they were all streamed on youtube.

Thanks for that, I'll take whatever free cricket on TV I can get here in the UK - even if it is Afghanistan and Zimbabwe !

Wait what sky channel is this and is there an app for this or can it be streamed from your smart TV?

No, they weren't. The matches were only streamed on youtube last year when the tournament resumed in November. The tournament has usually been broadcast on some obscure streaming service that no one bothers to use.

No worries, you can never have enough cricket, I even watched the European cricket on this channel few years back , and the quality was so terrible it actually made for decent viewing. RDA who freesports have the deal with also broadcast various other t20 leagues around the world so hopefully more will be added throughout the summer.

Good start to the zim Afghan series, 14 wickets down on day one , any complaints about the pitch :jk

My original point referred to markets outside Pakistan which do not have a dedicated broadcaster (i.e. Australia, Middle East, Asia Pacific). If the tournament was accessible over youtube, you can slowly build a fanbase and sell on the rights to a broadcaster such as Fox or Bein. You kill the market by selling the rights to obscure and unreliable streaming partners.

We got Ch 4 as well in the mix, how do you tend to watch cricket generally ? have you been tempted by Sky recently due to PSL and recent SA tour of Pak

I know, and thats exactly what hapenned in the first couple seasons, bar the playoffs perhaps.

I usually take my chances with a stream.

Not spending any money on a Misbah and Waqar coached team :)) Although I'm tempted to subscribe for our tour of the Caribbean this summer because the UK timings are perfect.

The PSL was broadcast over cricket gateway over the first few seasons (2016-18) in markets which didn't have a broadcaster. That website is now defunct.

The youtube experiment for the markets referred to in my previous post was only tried for one season (2020).

Sky have lost the rights to cricket in the Caribbean. They had been broadcasting West Indies cricket since 1990, but didn't bother to compete with BT in the latest rights cycle.

Same here but lockdown behaviour and excitement over KK/LQ prompted me to sign up for a month, it is expensive though 33 quid! I cancelled my BT for the month so I could pay for the NOW TV pass.

BT have the rights for the Caribbean tour, their coverage is excellent. If you are on EE it is 12.50-15 quid for the month, otherwise its about £25

First time Sky Sports show the PSL and it's called off after a few matches. Oh dear.

I can imagine a few broadcasters not best pleased with the PCB and perhaps wanting some sort of compensation.
