Over the course of the years, our spin bowling resources in the national teams, have gone gone from being our strength, now being our weakness. Poor perfomances in the last Asia Cup and last 3 test matches in UAE, is a proof of that.
In all formats of cricket, our spin bowling resources have almost completely dried up and it concerns me to see the same mediocre bowlers being introduced. Yasir Shah has been the lone warrior for our bowling attack in test cricket and he's been our biggest match winner since his debut. Carrying the bowling attack have seem to have taken a toll on his fitness. In limited overs cricket teams we don't even have a single front line spinner and the over reliance on the pacers have proved to be a failure especially in Asia.
I don't for a moment believe that there are no spin bowlers in Pakistan who are good enough for the International Cricket, that is simply not possible.
Spin bowling in Pakistani National Cricket Teams needs a revival, it needs a kick start there needs to be a rethink and reassessment of coaching methods and also the issue of the scouting network needs to be re-examined. The dearth of spin bowlers in the National Cricket Teams needs to be addressed by the Pakistani think thank. We cannot rely on medium pacers, especially in the UAE and we also cannot keep persisting with the mediocre spinners like Nawaz or inexperienced spinners like Shadab.
Looking ahead, I've seen several spin bowlers who I believe have the potential to serve Pakistan well. The Slow Left Arm Orthodox spinners are dominating the domestic circuit, many are performing consistently in multiple formats.
Therefore, inducting a few in the national teams of all formats would be ideal. The ones I feel ready for International Cricket are mentioned below.
Kashif Bhatti
Khalid Usman
Zadar Gohar
Mohammad Asghar
Raza Hasan
Kamran Ghulam
Mohammad Irfan
Nauman Ali
Zohaib Khan
Imran Khalid
Qaiser Ashraf
12th man: Fawad Alam ( no point in playing, he'll carry drinks)
Back up: Imad Wasim ( rotation player for limited overs teams), Hassaan Khan (one for the future).
