Once Wasim Akram said that Test bowling is not about play-miss, ooh-aah, it's an art of taking wickets and that matter.

Since England series, Sohail have taken two 5-fer and also 4-fer today. While other fast bowlers lacking.

Whether like it or not, Sohail is leading the pace attack right now.

Yes he is. Our new ball bowling has become alot better after his inclusion.

He moves the ball more than other Pakistani pacers.

His record in tests is very good if you ignore a bad couple of tests 5 years ago. He may not be glamorous enough for some fans here but he gets the results and that's what matters.

He is that. Currently seems to be taking most wickets. Amir is incredibly overrated.

For half of every match.

Falls apart in the 2nd innings cause of poor fitness.

He was never a terrible bowler. I always backed him as a cricketer to deliver for Pak in which he has. SK is a thinking bowler who knows the art of taking wickets, he'll go for runs but not as much as Wahab or Gul would, however he can swing the new ball and bowl great with the old ball. He'll give you those typical Test match wickets where the ball will kiss the outside edge and carry to the keeper/slips. Batting wise he's a decent tailender who can contribute double figures.

Not sure why people are treating this as bad news! This is great for Pakistan as it gives the captain more options.

Mohammad Imran Khan didnt play a test for a whole year , comes back and takes three wickets.

The only pakistani fast bowler currently in and out of the team who averages below 30.

The one bowler who hasn't been a regular in the Test side is currently the leader of the pack

SK got butchered by Southee was no over to hide for him... If he hadnt taken Southee's wicket and he went on to make a 50, this thread wont be here now.

True, reminds me of how Ashwin bats really well but Kohli gets all the glory

Until when players decide to hang on to the catches of Amir's bowling...

2 drops but of the same player, had that been taken, Amir would've still had 3 wickets while Sohail got 4. I like Amir but I don't get this trend of not giving other bowlers credit for out-bowling him...

Amir is seriously overrated. If he can't be lethal on green tracks then when will he be ?
That being said, we don't really have many options in our domestic circuit. I wish Junaid Khan could bring back his old form and swing.

Many Amir fans just can't accept that their guy is massively overrated and that there are better bowlers than him in the team.

How did Amir and Sohail bowl today? I didn't see this new ball spell..

Was Amir swinging the new ball? Cricinfo said he did

Just as I said.

:))

It's like clockwork. Might as well sit him in the 2nd innings of every match.

He's lucky the rest of the bowlers are lacking poise and quality right now. The fitness levels are unacceptable for a test bowler.

I like Sohail a lot but he should only play LOIs as he always run out of steam in the 2nd innings which is a shame because atm he is our best pacer but his fitness is shocking.

We have a history of giving free passes to players who have shocking fitness, Shoaib Akhtar was considered our match winner, though he hardly ever bowled a match winning spell for us from 2003-2007 in Test Matches..

And Akhtar was usually absent in the 2nd innings of a Test Match or a third test match of a series..

Sohail Khan right now is performing for us like Shoaib Akhtar used to do back in the day, and we fully need him as no one else can bowl the channels he can bowl

You are right. I really wish Sohail works on his fitness because he is our best pace bowler when fit.

Does anybody else think we seriously underrate this guy?

Considering he isn't high pace, he still bowls with a lot of aggression and can actually swing the ball, especially when it's new. I think he is moving ahead of the more celebrated pacers like Wahab and Rahat Ali. This guy has usually delivered at the highest levels, at least as far as his limited abilities will allow. Should we start seeing him as a blue chip player for Pakistan rather than second tier?

We all rate him, but Mickey doesn't. Instead he loves Rahat Ali who he even selected for KK.

There's a problem though. This guy is easily 35, low on fitness levels, bad in the field, gets short of breath after bowling a couple of overs and is always on the verge of injury. The most he can play are T20I's. Tests, out of question. I would take him to CT '17 though. He makes it on merit on the back of his performances in England.

However, more so because we need him more as a batsman than a bowler. Especially in the absence of Sharjeel because he is the only player in the team who can give the ball a whack. The management should utilize him as a pinch hitter.

No chances are being given to young fast bowlers they're warming the bench or totally ignored for PSL selection. Sohail is too old and unfit to survive a full match. Totally useless bowler. Give chance to youngsters.

I was thinking in terms of limited overs so not sure what you classify as a full match. He wouldn't be right for test cricket obviously. I don't know about young fast bowlers who haven't been given a chance, but if they are like Irfan Jr. then we need better quality. He's like Wahab, novelty value, but limited in what he can do with the ball because of the weird action.

The reality is, the best Pakistani pace bowlers in the PSL have been the original Mohd Irfan, Hasan Ali and Sohail. The rest have been disappointing at best.

I think he is also working on his fitness and losing some weight. Looked few pounds light yesterday

Should be a fixture in the limited overs squad, especially with the CT in mind. I worry that in the future we risk running Hassan and Amir into the ground.

Sohail is more than decent especially compared to other options

for the time being a quartet of Amir, Hasan, Sohail and Junaid ( hot and cold i know) is decent enough

Needs to be in our LOI squads.

Should only feature in Tests in a 5-man attack.

Been saying this.

The next test tours will Sohail should be useful are both in 2018 ( Eng then SA)

think that's too far him

in ODIS he is a good squad options and arguably first choice

Will always have a soft spot for Sohail as he made a major difference with the ball in the England series.

However fitness is a question, especially when he plays back to back matches, so his appearances should be in limited overs cricket. He can be a handy squad option if not starting.
