The sequel nobody want to miss - Let us rewind to June 2024. Kensington Oval, Barbados. South Africa were cruising in the T20 World Cup final, one hand on the trophy, when Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh produced a spell for the ages to rip it away and leave the Proteas heartbroken. Fast forward to 2026 and the two heavyweights collide again, this time in Match 3 of the Super 8s at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. And this is no ordinary Super 8 group, with West Indies and Zimbabwe also in the mix, two other unbeaten group toppers, this has quickly become the tournament's toughest pool. Perfect group stages, different paths - Both sides arrive unbeaten. South Africa swept past New Zealand, Canada and UAE comfortably, but their defining moment came in that unforgettable clash against Afghanistan - a double Super Over epic that will live long in World Cup folklore. India, too, topped their group with four wins, brushing aside Netherlands and Namibia and dominating Pakistan, but they had to dig deep in their opener against USA, rescued by Suryakumar Yadav's match-winning 84 off 49. India's firepower - India may not have hit absolute top gear yet, but they have found match-winners at every turn. Ishan Kishan smashed a blistering 77 against Pakistan on a slow Colombo surface, Shivam Dube hammered 66 off 31 against Netherlands, and Hardik Pandya has delivered crucial all-round impact time and again. Add Rinku Singh's finishing prowess and India's tally of 40 sixes - the most in the group stage, with Kishan contributing 11 and the batting depth looks formidable. The bowling have been pretty sharp. Varun Chakravarthy has been outstanding with nine wickets, bossing the middle overs, Axar Patel has been reliable (and likely returns after being rested), while Bumrah and Arshdeep have been clinical both up front and at the death. A few warning signs - Yet there are cracks to address. The No.1 ranked T20I batter Abhishek Sharma has three ducks and is yet to score.

A concerning pattern has also emerged when Tilak Varma and SKY bat together, both striking under 125 in recent games, particularly struggling against off-spin. India are scoring at just 6.23 against off-spinners, with an average of 13.25, numbers only better than Nepal and Oman. Add nine dropped catches - the second most in the tournament and there are clear areas to tighten up. Markram's men mean business - South Africa have been equally impressive. Aiden Markram has led from the front with two fifties, including a superb 86 against New Zealand, while Ryan Rickelton boasts the highest strike rate in the squad (minimum 10 balls faced). Quinton de Kock has quietly crossed 100 runs, anchoring things smartly at the top. Dewald Brevis, though, is yet to truly ignite this campaign - something that will be on the management's mind but he will take confidence from the white-ball tour of India late last year, where he played a couple of impactful knocks and showed exactly the kind of damage he can inflict on this very opposition. Tristan Stubbs and David Miller continue to finish strongly - Stubbs already a hero for that last-ball six in the first Super Over against Afghanistan. Proteas pace battery firing - Their pace unit has been nothing short of lethal. Lungi Ngidi, Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch have combined for 20 wickets, with both Ngidi and Jansen registering four-fers in the tournament. Interestingly, Kagiso Rabada has managed just two wickets in four games so far, while Anrich Nortje returned in the final league fixture to pick up a couple himself, creating a healthy selection dilemma ahead of this clash.

India Squad: Suryakumar Yadav (c), Axar Patel (vc), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakaravarthy.

South Africa Squad: Aiden Markram (c), Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Jason Smith, Corbin Bosch, Kwena Maphaka, and George Linde.

India's biggest challenge. SA is so good they can beat India convincingly if they hit the straps. Quality players. Also almost all of them played with and against Indians in IPL for a very long time. Kishan and QDK have opened together for MI 15 to 20 times. Then SKY and QDK together for along time. Markram and ABhishek sharma play for same fracnhisees in the IPL. Tilak also played with QDK if i am right. Jansen has played with a bunch of guys. So both teams know inside out of each team. Both will play on surface that is suitable for both teams. So it will be one hero that will turn up and win the game for their team.

for me it all depends on de kock, - if he can stay in for 40 balls (with a good partnership)- SA have agreat chance to win

QDK, Rickelton, Markram, Brevis, Stubbs, Miller. South Africa has a solid batting line-up with almost everyone is in form.

Let's see what Bumrah, Arshdeep and Varun have in store for us tomorrow against this batting unit.

I see your excuses are ready. :qdkcheeky

South African players don't need IPL experience to beat India. :inti

Cricket is like football to them right now. Without participating rooting for random teams lol. They are back to their 1990s root. What else can they do. They are lucky they didn't participate. Otherwise teams like Nepal would have pummelled them into submission. Airee alone would have scored a 150 against bangladesh trundlers.

SA doesn't have quality spinners to trouble Indian batters. Just Maharaj and part-timer Markram.
Varun Chakravarty troubled SA batters in the prior series and was the man of the series. Should be an easy India win.

We will know tomorrow if India can actually win the cup or not. I believe they won’t due to numerous factors, although obviously I wish they will. We will how they plan and then see. Both team can still go to semis even if they lose this match

In the entire history of their pathetic existence as a cricketing nation, loser BD hasn’t even once produced a player as exciting as someone from an associate team

India has a record 12 wins in a row in world T20. Maintaining that run is very hard. That is my fear as well. No team can do that. 13th is unlucky number :) Hope that doesn't go against us. But we can still qualify even after a loss. We have to beat Zimbabwe and west indies. But beating SA will put us in a very good position.

Most Consecutive Wins in Men's T20 World Cup:
  • 12 - India (2024–2026)
  • 8 - South Africa
  • 8 - Australia

Imagine this clown praying for India loss 12 matches in a row and failed every single time shamelessly hahaha.
And when they get into an argument they bring matches from 2007. Their reason for fame is that they once knocked out an aging Indian team. That was an upset then and if it happens is it will still be an upset after two decades

India can certainly win mind you. I am just traumatized by all the silly mistakes over the years that have cost us numerous titles. 2014, 2016, 2017, 2023 we were the best team outright and 2019 probably best test team. Yet we found ways to get knocked out. Hopefully we don’t do that again.

Talking about the record run, it is extremely fickle format. I say almost every decent team has a chance of beating beating any other team. So to maintain such high level of consistency takes a lot of work. Twenty years down the line we will be looking back at this era and team with awe

Night and Day difference between this Game Thread and the England Vs SL Game Thread.

Every other post in that thread is about weather/rain where as this thread doesn't have a single post about that, no concerns and live free.

You would think the games are happening across the world from each other.

Surprised that SL get so much rain and other nearby countries don't.

Final before the Final.

South Africa, West Indies & New Zealand are the teams that will challenge the World Champions in this tournament.

India need to bring their A game in remaining 5 matches of this tournament.

I’m just afraid of Kock bhai. He has often played big knocks against Bharat.

If Ind lose this then this sham tourney might get a little interesting.. so far it’s been a nothing tournament.. with major controversies around exclusion of BD and format/venue/scheduling manipulations.

SA will be playing its 4th game today in Ahmedabad and will play another one in the Super 8 vs WI, and possibly a 6th game there if they qualify for the final.

It almost feels like SA are hosting this WC with Ahmedabad as their home base.

:klopp :kp

Yea.. Miller was part of GT for a while. All point to tough day for India.

I don’t know why people think this will even be a close game. India are on top of their game and a powerhouse atm. and will win this World Cup by going unbeaten in the tournament
. That’s how good they are match winners galore

Shastri talks up India XI with ‘all bases covered’

On Wednesday, India wrapped up their group stage with a dominant win over Netherlands, taking their winning streak at T20 World Cups to 12.

Former India coach Ravi Shastri believes the two-time champions, who have an embarrassment of riches in the line-up, may have found their best XI. He believes India will continue with the team that got the better of the Dutch when they begin the Super Eight phase against South Africa on Sunday, February 22.

“I think it will be pretty much the same side because you've got depth, you've got all bases covered, you've got options, you need options,” Shastri told The ICC Review.

“When there's dew around, you need that extra bowling option. Whether it's a Shivam Dube, whether it's Hardik (Pandya) bowling his full quota of overs, whether it's Tilak Varma who might roll his arm for an over or two, you need those options. I don't think they'll tinker with the side. I think the team that played in the last game was a good side.

“I think the positive (for India) is that in every game there's been someone who stood up. It has been Ishan Kishan, sometimes Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) in the first game. Tilak Varma has played his part. He's got off to starts but I still think the best of him is still to come. I look at it as a positive that Abhishek Sharma has got three zeros. So, save your best for the important periods in the tournament. Teams will be a little worried that he's not got runs.”

The only dilemma, Shastri believes, is whether to play Axar Patel or Washington Sundar. While it is not a like-for-like comparison – Patel is a left-arm spinner while Sundar is an off-break bowler – they are both more than handy with the bat. Sundar, who has been out of the team due to injury since the ODI series against New Zealand earlier in the year, was brought in for Patel against the Netherlands, giving him some much-needed game time before the tournament enters the business end.

In the Super Eight stage, India is in Group 1 along with Zimbabwe, West Indies and South Africa. Sunday’s clash between India and South Africa is a repeat of the 2024 final, where India scored a narrow seven-wicket win to claim their second championship.

“There's a lot of self-belief and you know it's going to be a cracking contest because South Africa are no pushovers, they'll compete for sure. And it's a repeat of the World Cup final of 2024, so everyone's looking forward to it,” Shastri said about the match against the Proteas.

Like India, South Africa are unbeaten in the tournament so far and will carry that confidence to the next stage.

Every emotion, and every angle of the heart-stopping second innings of the 2024 T20 World Cup Final between India and South Africa

“They've got depth in batting. India have got depth in batting. I think this is a cracking contest. This is two of the strongest teams, one would say, playing in this tournament, playing this game on the 22nd. Because you'd have to give them that credit because they were World Cup finalists last time around and they're playing to potential at the moment.”

Ahmedabad will play host to the marquee India v South Africa contest. While India played their final group game there, South Africa played three of their four group games, including the epic against Afghanistan and a comprehensive win over New Zealand, at the venue. They also played two evening matches – against New Zealand and Canada – at the Narendra Modi Stadium and will have a measure of the conditions.

“100 per cent. When you're familiar with the ground, you're familiar with the angles, you know which will be the long boundary, which would be the shorter side,” he said.

“So, you know what lengths to bowl and they will come well prepared, as would India. The thing to see is the amount of dew. See, dew can make a lot of difference. Toss can play a crucial role in games like this.”

As the home team, it may be advantage India, but South Africa will be keen on turning the tables.

? SA is a more well rounded side.. and since it’s only a super 8 game , they are way more in line to win this

Bangladeshi demands were unrealistic and political...so ICC was right in not entertaining them. It would have been a sham had ICC changed venue for them in last minute. So it was a good riddance and absolutely no one missed BD.

What other scheduling manipulation happened? Its a co hosted tournament and was already agreed that Pakistan will play all its matches in SL. India going to Colombo to face Pakistan was not absurd either. Remember, India's first game in 2011 world cup was in BD. This is how co hosted tournaments work.

Yes, the boycott drama Pakistan did was unfortunate. But lets face it, only that off field politics made the Ind v Pak match somewhat interesting because on field Pakistan surrendered faster than 1971.

Am guessing our guys will go in for Sanju for Abhi, to get a RH bat in the top order. And Siraj might get a gig too.

Will Jacks is certainly having a T20 World Cup to remember. The most consistent performer with both bat and ball.

39*(18) & 17/1 vs Nepal
16*(10) vs Scotland
53*(22) & 34/1 vs Italy
21(14) & 22/3 vs Sri Lanka
