South Africa [206/1] beat Sri Lanka [203] by 9 wickets in 35th match of 2019 World Cup

This is the “off day” for SRL - they are a team of two extremes these days. Poms faced other extreme that day😜

I want SA to win to bring some pride back into their cricket. They are playing like minnows which is hard to understand for kids who grew up in the 90s early 2000s when SA was always a monster team and just one step behind ATG Aussie side. I miss the times of Kallis, Smith, Boucher, Pollack, Gibbs, Ntini, Donald etc etc. Just my nostalgia speaking but I always regard SA as one of the best teams going around and seeing them beaten by even minnow sides like BD is hard to digest.

1999 world cup.
South Africa scored 199 against Sri lanka
And defended it and won.

They were 177 in 49 overs
Lance klusener scored 22 from vaas to make it 199

Surely SA won't mess this up. A win for SA and wins for Pakistan and India would end a perfect week for us.

Wasn't the other recent "bees stopped play" against SL as well? I believe it was. Strange...

Morris looks like a little kid in that photo.

Have had it all in this World Cup - rain and sun. Close matches, one sided matches. Flat wickets, dry wickets, green wickets.

Now killer bees. What more do you want ?

The bees have more sting than the Sri Lankan batting unit.

Sorry.

Malinga should be a Lankan legend got them T20 wc , and still giving his best at this age!

If he would had been from Ind,Pak or BD would had gotten so much fame

We even got the English whining again so really have had everything :warner

Ooh tidbit on commentary.

Shaun Pollock, who sits on the ICC Cricket Committee, is saying going back to one new ball in ODIs is "definitely on the agenda", and other ball manufacturers will be allowed to make their case.

Amla again making runs once pressure off? He is one who has disappointed me most in his career. He has not lived up to his stats reputation at all.

Very boring game this book a flight for Cape town and Hambontota for these two :yk

Itna bhi boring nahi hai in the context of WC. Had SL won this they might have beaten WI and who knows India would have played their bench against them in the final group game, thereby killing Pak's chances. It is imperative that SA win. However, I just keeping an eye on the score to make sure SA don't choke it.

Hashim Amla playing a crucial knock when his needed him the most. What a classy clutch player he is.

I feel ya. But they need to get rid of oldie chokers like Amla, faf, Duminy etc. Need to Janneman, zubayr and other youngsters and play a different , aggressive brand of cricket.

He's a sleeper agent roped in by Tahir bhai. We've activated them all. Watch out for Khwaja sb and then the others who must not be mentioned for the sake of their safety :))

Good. This two new ball farce has been going on for too long.

SA brethren doing work for us :inzi

How far have SL regressed from the likes of even 2nd string spinners were top class to these Mendis' :125:

Upul Chandana Kalpage etc

How could Eng lose to this Lankan side?
Maybe it was all part of Almighty plans for Pakistan's dramatic entry into semis :moyo2

HASHIM AMLA and Faf du Plessis made the Standard Bank Proteas two highest individual scores of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup to lead the way to a nine-wicket victory over Sri Lanka with 76 balls to spare in their penultimate match at Chester-le-Street on Friday.

With the Proteas producing by far their most positive and convincing batting of the tournament the pair also shared South Africa’s biggest partnership of the series of 175 off 206 balls. It was only South Africa’s second century partnership at the World Cup, improving on the 104 between Amla and Quinton de Kock against Afghanistan.

Amla finished on 85 (105 balls, 5 fours) and Du Plessis on 96 (103 balls, 10 fours and a six). It was Amla’s second half-century at the tournament and Du Plessis’ third.

In a complete all-round performance, the bowlers also played their part, managing to dismiss Sri Lanka inside the 50 overs for 203.

Sri Lanka, who had been sent into bat after Du Plessis had won the toss, dominated the first 10 overs of the match, reaching 67/2 at the end of the first power play but the Proteas were totally in charge of the remainder of the contest as Sri Lanka lost their last 9 wickets for 136 runs.

This was in no small part due to the contribution of Man of the Match Dwaine Pretorius whose only previous outing at the World Cup had been almost a month ago in the tournament opener against England.

After taking 1/17 in his first three overs, he then took 2/8 in his remaining seven to finish with the outstanding figures of 3/25 from 10. This included a remarkable 46 dot balls which must constitute a record of some sort.

Ironically, the only one of the six bowlers employed not to take a wicket was Imran Tahir who has been their standout performer in this discipline throughout the tournament.

The Proteas made two changes from the side that had played the last few matches with Pretorius replacing Lungi Ngidi and JP Duminy taking the place of the injured David Miller.

The Proteas play their final match against Australia at Old Trafford, Manchester, next Saturday.

Although the entire base of Pakistan cricket fans were in unison praying for Sri Lanka to lose today so that the Pakistan team has one headache with regards to qualifying for the semi-finals, but I was still supporting Sri Lanka, and that I did mainly for the sake of the tournament, and secondly because such a rapid decline of Sri Lankan cricket is becoming hard to bear for me. However, not to be...... Their batting has sadly not clicked in a single game in this entire tournament, and that´s where they´ve lost the race. There has been individual brilliance from one or two batsmen here and there, but they´ve failed collectively as a unit. They were lucky that the match against Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain, as I´m sure the current Bangladesh team would´ve fancied their chances against this team.
