I was just going throw some pics on cricinfo and fount this recent pic of botha, I must say his action looks extremely suspicious. I still dont know how the ICC's 15 degree rule works but being a bowler myself, If I bowled a ball with this sort of action, I wouldnt be a bowler.

Doesn't matter, he's crap so no-one cares. :murali

oops typo, I meant through, but throw isn't a bad word either given the context of my message.

Pictures do no justice. The arm should have 15 degree or less angle at the point of release.

Shane Warne's action is also suspicious.

not it this picture because he's yet to turn his arm over to bowl the actual delivery, where as in botha's case he just looks to be chucking the ball. I can't believe how you can be allowed to bowl with such action because even I can throw n spin the ball a yard with a similar action.

He looks a lot similar to Shoaib Malik when he was called up by ICC and the poor guy eventually stopped bowling and had to turn into a batsman.

Who cares. Some people throw caution to the wind :afridi, others throw the ball :malik, whilst some decide to throw games :butt.

Ok that's just a wrong comparison.
Warne isn't even delivering the ball in that picture, he's still in his follow up. That picture shows him in his follow up, not the angle of his arm when he bowls the ball.

Here's the thing, Botha has already been suspected of throwing and was referred for testing by the ICC. He turned out to be bowling within the legal limit and that's the end of it.

Of course that's not to say he's within the 15 degree limit every ball, but if the ICC are satisfied, I could care less.

Not strictly true. The arm at the point of delivery can be bent at any angle, it's just not allowed to straighten by more than 15 degrees.

For that reason you can't tell just from looking at a single photo whether a delivery is legal or not.

Botha,Akthar,Ajmal, shabbir,Malinga all of them look chuckers to my eye.

His stock deliveries looks legitimate.Doosra's a bit dodgy though, but he very rarely uses it.

He always looked like he was chucking tbh.

And just on the harbhajan issue i'm not sure but i remember Shillingford got suspended and iirc his action really reminded me of Harbhajan's.

Ajmal, Botha, Harbhajan, Murali all throw 'some' of their deliveries imo.

Their effort ball, the one that turns a little bit more etc go beyond the 15 degrees bend and straightening. But the ICC don't care about chuckers so we should all just move along now.

with our track record - do we really care?

a bit of kink never hurt nobody!

Why isn't Murali and Harbajaan not in your list? the two biggest chuckers of recent times, based on the amount of times reported.

Malinga? Can an arm be straighter than malinga's? if he's chucking all of cricket needs to banned for chucking lol.

i would say troll is troll, but this is a case of dumb is dumb.

@ All,
i know they have been proved innocent and I just stated what i could decipher from looking at them bowl through my naked eye.

Niether malinga chucks nor shoaib chucks ...

Malinga has a round arm action and there is nothing wrong with it

In shoaib's case it is hyper extension he has been checked several times so its not about wat ur eyes see and ajmal also has a legitimate off-spinner may be his doosra is dodgy but same is the case with bhajji and murali so no need to take his name separately

It doesn't matter what the facts are or what has been checked my naked eye tells me that Akhtar and Ajmal are both chuckers...

So instead of using technology ICC should use naked eye to check their action ...???

They have been checked so they are legitimate bowlers ...

Argument closed

haha, my Murali smiley is actually working. Hope this one is here for keeps. :murali

I have heard a simple thumb rule from an ex-cricketer.

If a bowler wears a full arm shirt, then his action should indeed be scrutinized. Else leave him alone .....

Simple theory, but makes sense

Johan chucktha

How is he getting away with such blatant chucking in the BBL?!
Disgusting action.

The thing is that officials are not so strict with bowlers in franchise leagues. If Ajmal had retired from international cricket before the ban, he would have been making tons of money in different leagues.

Johan Botha, an all-rounder in the truest sense of the word, has retired from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.

The off-spinner had been representing Hobart Hurricanes in Australia’s Big Bash League, but has had to cut his stint short, citing “wear and tear on his body and sheer physical fatigue”, according to a Hurricanes statement.

Such is perhaps to be expected after a 19-year career which saw Botha start as a medium-pacer, become an off-spinner, re-model his action in the face of questions over his bowling action, represent South Africa more than 100 times across formats, captain them in 21 of those games, and play for countless T20 franchises.

Johan Botha's fine fielding made him a valuable asset Johan Botha's fine fielding made him a valuable asset
While his spin perhaps didn’t have the bite required to make him a force in Test cricket – he played only five games in the longest format – his canny, accurate off-spin, punchy batting and fine fielding made Botha the archetypal white-ball all-rounder, adaptable in the extreme.

He was one of South Africa’s stand-out performers at the 2011 Men’s Cricket World Cup, maintaining a miserly economy rate of 4.07 runs per over, while his abilities under pressure are further emphasised by his two Player of the Match performances in T20Is, in thrilling one-run and three-run wins against West Indies and New Zealand in 2010 and 2012.

The World T20 in 2012, in which the Proteas crashed out at the group stages, would see Botha’s international career come to an end, with the off-spinner opting to take up the captaincy of South Australia, ruling him out of international contention. He carried on playing in T20 leagues the world over, racking up almost 500 professional games, and grabbing over 500 wickets.

Don't mean to be disrespectful but I thought he has been retired for 4-5 years now.

Have a good life ahead.

No disrespect but he was one of the most blatant chuckers of the ball along with Pragyan Ojha. :warne

What a shameful retirement, he knew he was going to call it quits so chucked in the BBL to grab as many wickets or cash prizes as he could.

I sincerely hope he reverted accidentally but looking at the track record of serial chuckers like Hafeez and Narine I am doubtful.

It's bizarre to retire in the middle of a tournament. Not much respect

He came across as a intelligent player, I wouldn’t mind seeing him in a coaching role.
