Was a very painful partnership to watch, ab and faf batting over 60 overs for about 70 runs.

Hurt to watch but as somebody who gets frustrated at our lots lack of fight in such games when we are fighting for the draw i can only tip my hat to them.

Ab has proven multiple times you can change your natural game if you have the desire to fight it out.

With 5 bowlers, Aus can wrap it up even if SA loses no wicket in the first session. Yes, the first session is very important if SA wants to save this game but it won't necessarily kill the chance for Aus. One brutal spell from Johnson and it will be over. I have hopes from AB and Faf to play out time but not sure about any one else.

yes that definately is,one devasting spell from jhonson and every thing is done and dusted.but still the morning session is one of the most bowling friendly session from a fast bowling prespective .
if batsmen survived through first session without losing any wickets you can trust them to save the match.

Spot on here. That's why I always hate when some one says you can't change your game based on circumstances. It shows a lack of ability in my opinion. Not only one way but other way as well. There are many batsmen who can play only certain way, be it defense or attack.

Aussies should win game tomorrow and gain a well deserved series win, there fragile batting has stood up to S.A bowlers well in this series and the Aus bowlers have exposed chinks in S.A batting line up. S.A will now have to rebuild there batting with Kallis and Smith gone which will be a tough ask for them now,

Smith and warner continuing their ashes form is huge for the future, it's been clarke and hussey or bust for a few years now and we badly need a few blokes under 30 to stand up on a regular basis.

It's one thing them doing it at home but both doing it in SA means a heck of a lot, i thought smith could do it and maybe warner might play one big knock it's been a real shock him scoring 500+ this series.

Still huge worries about our batting on slower pitches or big turners not sure we really are close to getting that right, guess uae is another chance to adapt but i doubt we can.

Warner does have a genuine problem against spin on turning tracks.

Smith and Clarke can play spin well. 1-2 other batsmen need to step up. Also, if Warner can get one big inning then it will do the job because there are only 2 tests. I actually liked Smith the way he played in India and Eng. Many posters were making fun of him but he showed me enough that he can adapt. Sooner or later those players do end up making big runs.

6 wickets needed. You'd have to think we could take 6 wickets in 100 overs but AB and Zip are pretty sticky. I didn't see the whole days play yet due to work just bits and pieces but whether we win this Test or not is up to us. Maybe we could have declared at 450, Doolan used up a few deliveries it looks like.

Farewell Biff. You were a thorn in our side through many a year. All the best to your future. Played the game hard and other than when you were young and whinged about Haydunce sledging you you didn't sook or take a backward step. Good to see the OZ give you the respect you deserved.

If the ball reverses in the first 90 minutes might make a big difference as well, we didn't get much going at adelaide but if we can pick up a couple in the first session before the new ball that could be the key.

SA were still 4 down when we got the new ball in that other game, i think if they are 6 down this time we can get the job done.

I don't expect Abbott to last long. We really need Faf or AB. I think it should be game over after that, just a matter of time. Need to bowl well first thing tomorrow. Good thing they are all fit and contributing (other than Garry).

Don't think that there will be any heroics this time. The top order folded meekly as usual. I'll run naked through Hillbrow if Australia doesn't win from here.

I'm quoting this just in case :D

yes i definitely missed that.rarely anyone discuss about that. but abd always gives me a impression of aggressive batsman

He is, but more importantly he's an intelligent batsman with multiple gears who plays according to the team situation. If the team needs him to score 30 off 200 he will do that and save a Test and bat for hours just blocking the ball. If they need him to score a quick 50 off 25 without time to get himself in he will do that too. He doesn't care about his average and adjusts. Best batsman in the world today.

Welcome to PP btw :D

ABs attacking mode alone has about 15 gears and on top of that, he can switch to automatic from semi auto and just free flow like his partnership vs Aus in Aus with :amla

Anyway, this 'hack' david Warner is proving to be a right pain in the backside for SA. He will falter to half decent spin as he was struggling vs JP Duminy tho..Hack or not, very useful player for Aus..

Yea I think away from SA/OZ surfaces in general he has struggled. I attached his stats. Like in England and India and the WI. 24 in India, 28 in WI and 23 in England. Though I feel, like Johnson, the Ashes last OZ summer might be the step change in his career because prior to that he was always talented and put the odd ton together but his consistency over the last few months has just been at another level. It's where the mental side catches up with the physical side.

The best example of such a step change to me was Andrew Symonds - the tipping point for him was the 2003 WC match vs Pakistan where he scored 130 odd. It was so remarkable the change in him after that knock. I actually made a thread about it where I analysed his pre-Pak match stats with his post-Pak match stats. The thread's probably been archived now since this was in 2003 or 04 that I wrote it. This was a bloke who everyone said was lucky to make the OZ WC side and he was - he averaged 25 with the bat in ODIs before that over like 30-40 ODIs I think. After that he averaged 50 in all ODIs after that. It was like that match gave him his self belief and brought him to another level. Eventually became a Test player in 2006 and had a good career.

I think definitely for Jonno I can see evidence of that step change. With Warner I think the jury is still out, he definitely is in some rich vein of form atm but the opportunities will be there for him to show he can bat well on other surfaces, the UAE this October and then India and England next year I think.
