To my shock there is no Official German Thread here so I'm going to open one since I'm very fluent in this language.

German can be fun especially when you imitate the different dialects.
It also a great language to insult each other (for fun).

Lasst uns also beginnen:

Wie heisst du? - (What's your name lit. How are you called?)
Ich heisse.... - (My name is... lit. I'm called...)

Wie geht es dir? - (How are you? lit. How goes it you?)
Mir gehts gut/nicht so gut/schlecht/scheisse. - (I'm good/not so good/ bad/ sh*tty lit. Me goes... Note: Scheisse (Sh*tty)has become the synonym for schlecht(bad) when replying to these kind of questions. Only mama boys would say schlecht so please don't get offended.)

Was geht ab?/ Wasn los?(Not so 'cool' than was geht ab) - (What's up?/What's going on? lit. What is going up?)
Nix - (Slang word for Nichts mean. Nothing)

Komm verpiss dich du langweiler! - (Go away you Nerd lit. Come **** off you bore. Note: The main word here are 'Verpiss dich' lit. **** off which can be used in any context.
For English speaker this might seem a rude thing to say especially considering the lit. meaning but people use it quite often and it isn't meant that seriously. You can use it here and there or when disagreeing with your friend 'Ach komm verpiss dich, das kann nicht sein, eeeehhh!')

basic notes:
sch is pronunced as sh in English
e is pronunced as a in English
a is pronunced as aaa in ENglish like 'Aaaa that was painful'
ei is pronounced as ie in English
ie is pronunced as ei in English. Confusing?! I know.
ch is pronounced as kh in Urdu.

The correct pronunciation can be troublesome especially if one comes from an English speaking backgorund.

The number one advice I can give to an English speaker is that please try to reduce the English accent when speaking German. Speak the words in a neutral tone.

I started to learn German with an English speaking background and know how confusing it is in the beginning.

Remember:

E is pronounced as A in English
I is pronounced as E in English
EI is prounced as AI
IE is pronunced as EI in Englsih
Sch is pronunced as SH or SHEEN in Urdu
Ä/Ü/Ö have to be learned can't explain
PH = Fh

In my experience the correct pronunciation is easier to master than in English or French all you need to do is to learn the correct pronunciation of the alphabets which isn't difficult. So then when you are trying to read a word you have read it just like it's written no complicated rules.

It depends.

If 'st' is in the beginning of the sentence then it is pronounced as 'sh'.

E.g Strasse(Street)= Shtrasse but in the ending like in 'ist' it's pronounced normally like in 'pssst'

A little lesson in swiss German:

In schweizer deutsch werden in der Regel die 'st' mit 'sch' ersetzt und ei wird zum ie.
Haben wird zum 'han' kann wird zum 'chan'

For e.g

Wo ist er? ---> Wo isch er

These words can be used before saying 'geil' and 'krass' to add more weight :

voll (foll) - kinda like very or completely
echt (acht) - kinda like really
übelst (iu-bal-st) - more than really , kinda like unbelievable
arsch (aarsh) - lit: as* can't be used with 'krass' only with 'geil'
verdammt (fer-daamm-t) - lit: damn
wie (we) - how
super (soopar) - super

You can't exactly translate these word. There are many more words like these but that's for advance person.

These words can be added after 'geil' and 'krass' to sound more 'cool':

man (maaa-n) - Man/dude
Alter (aaltaah) - dude/mate
junge (you-n-gay) - kid/dude
bruder (br-ouu-daah) - bro

e.g: übelst Krass alter!

Note: 'geil' literally means 'horny' be cautious while using it. Use it only to compliment something.
e.g

"Look at afridi's hair!"
"echt geil man"

Don't use it in ''I/You/He is 'geil'' unless you are gay or have brother like relationship with the other person.

If you use it for a female like "She is geil" than geil translates into hot/sexy.

Also use 'krass' and not 'geil' when some thing is unbelievably amazing.
e.g

"Akhtar just bowled at 101mph"
"voll krass alter"

Other word for awesome:
toll (tholl) - nice/good/super/awsome This word is mostly used by adults. We youngster uses it in negative sense while adults don't use the word 'krass'. E.g:

Adult 1 - "How were the holidays?"
Adult 2 - "they were toll"

Adult - 1 "Akhtar just bowled at 101mph"
Adult - 3 "schön" - nice. (youngster would say 'krass')

Youngster 1 - "Du bist heute dran das Zimmer zu putzen." - It's your turn today to clean the room.
Youngster 2 - "Toll!" - sh*t

Angesichts der traurigen Ereignisse von letzter Woche in Norwegen habe ich ein paar norwegische Zeitungen gelesen und zu meinem Erstaunen hat Norwegisch Ähnlichkeit mit Deutsch und mit ein bisschen Mühe könnte ich es verstehen.

Lernt man in norwegischen Schulen Deutsch als obligatorisch oder hast du es freiwillig gelernt?

On a side note the word "Kampf" literally means fight.

I can understand where this curiosity is coming from. You always wish to listen to the other version of anyone´s "atrocious" doings. The fact that I never took any interest in Adolf Hitler is because I think that he is a worldwide accepted terrorist and reading into him won´t change things much.

Don´t know about this somewhat "busy" summer, but if life gives me a chance I will take it to investigate this book.

Reading and listening are two absolutely different things I suppose. Reading my posts no one will ever be able to guess that I need sub-titles if I ever happen to watch any Hollywood films (tell you what, cricket commentary and news are well understood but only face trouble when it comes to films).

Cool! Wusste nicht, dass es hier eine gute Anzahl an deutschen Mitgliedern gibt.

Da dies hier ja ein Cricket Forum ist, würde mich interessieren, ob ihr hier in Deutschland auch eure Freizeit damit verbringt, Cricket zu spielen. Denn da ja jeder wissen müsste, handelt es sich ja bei den Deutschen um eine sehr fußballverrückte Nation, was somit dazu führt, dass andere Sportarten, die hier noch nicht Fuß fassen konnten, komplett ausgeblendet werden. Also bei mir ist das so, dass ich jeden Sonntag mit meinem Bruder zum Cricket spielen, auf ein in der Nähe liegendes Feld gehe.

Wäre nett, wenn ihr eure Erfahrungen teilen könntet, bezüglich des Cricket Spielens - nur rein aus Interesse

Ich muss in Deutshland nachstes Jahr leben. Gottingen,Bochum,Trier,Nurenburg oder Bamberg.

Ich denke das Gottingen oder Bamberg die bestes Universitat fur much sind.

I don't really know the business terms but after checking for their German equivalent on Google and German business dictionaries this is the best possible translation

Oh man, i dont know why i havent reveived any notification, concerning your post. Only just looked into the language forum, and saw that youve tagged me. Dont know, why i faded it out.

If you have other questions regarding translation of english sentences into the german language, i will be open to look into the matter.

Ah okay. So how was it? Has it been taff ? Nearly every relative of mine, who came to study here in Germany or settled here, told me that German is one hell of a difficult language to learn, to which i cant relate, due to me born and raised here.

And to test your German skills, another couple question ive got:
Wieso hast du ein Semester lang Deutsch studiert? Gibt es da irgendwelche speziellen Beweggründe dazu?

I wouldnt say its easy, but at the same time I wouldnt call it really hard either. Tough but manageable IMO, then again I've got a good teacher.

Ich studiere Deutsch seit 8 Jarhen. Ich habe es in Uni gemacht mochten deshalb ich studiere es heute. Ich wurde nach Berlin fur 3 Tagen in Januar fahren, und ich wurde in Deutschland in eine Universitat fur zwei Semester nachstes Jahr leben.

Ah, now thats nice to hear, that people abroad started to develop some interest for the German language ; you now have been the first one, ive come to know, who started studying German. Although, there are a couple of grammatical/spelling mistakes in your sentences, you already are able to construct some halfway decent sentences in German, which many immigrants, who've been living here for at least 40 years, still arent capable to do - so credit goes to you

Speaking of Berlin, I've visited the capital a couple of months ago with my school class - for the first time of my life . Really enjoyed it thoroughly. Spots, you should look to visit are the Brandenburger Tor, Alexander Platz, Olympia Stadion and some historical sights, such as the Berlin Wall & some WW2 memorials. A quick boating through the local river Spree wouldn't be bad either. And yeah, whilst your stay in Berlin, you shouldn't forget, to look for some Döner-Imbiss. Berlin is famous for its delicious Döner Kebab.

Regarding my second question. It's basically the same question, as the first one, just a bit more specified - asking for some special motives, concerning your decision to study German. But you already answered them, by stating that it was the interest, which brought you to this decision.

Ich habe eine Website gefunden, mit viele Auslandische Sendungen z.b The Walking Dead und Black Sails, und das ist sehr gut aber die Dokumentarien sind nur auf Englisch. Ich habe viele Webseite mit downloaden finden aber die Deutsche Gesetz sind sehr streng mit downloaden und man kann eine Steuer bekommen, wenn man diese Seite benutzt.

Firstly, I don´t even know what David Attenborough documentaries are, but even if I did I´m afraid I wouldn´t have been of much help because I myself don´t know of any such website, sadly. I myself struggle to even find Hollywood films dubbed into German.

So I´m sorry about that.

Kein Problem. Ich muss es auf Englisch sehen. Aber du sollst Attenborough kennen. Er ist die beste Dokumentarien Presenter auf der ganzen Welt meiner Meinung nach. Wenn du Naturdokumetarien mochten siehst, du sollst Planet Earth oder Blue Planet sehen. Unglaublich gut. Ich empefehle das
