What's new

Sri Lanka (140/4) defeat Bangladesh (139/5) comfortably by 6 wickets in Match 05 of Asia Cup 2025

Problem for BD is they didn't punish full and short balls in the PP.

PP by length

Full - 0/11 off 10 balls
Good - 2/7 off 15 balls
Short - 0/12 off 11 balls

SL,on the other hand, successfully attacked anything full or short by BD seamers in the first 7 overs

Full - 0/9 off 5 balls
Good - 1/9 off 15 balls
Short - 0/28 off 16 balls

Sri Lanka are easily the second best T20 team in Asia right now. They have some stroke making batters who are not scared of playing aggressively and their bowling is pretty decent too.

On true wickets, they'll beat Pak/BD/Afg most of the time in this format.

Across formats, they are the 2nd best side. Not sure about T20 's specifically.

These tiger dolls are so cringy. Are they 5-year olds? Why would you bring in dolls? :inti

Bangladesh should change the mascot from tiger to a goat. Tiger is an overrated animal with not much utility. Goat is an animal with multiple utilities.

SL chased down 140 in 14.4 overs against team Nagin dance.

Congratulations 👏

TEam nagin dance one step closer to Book the flight to Dhaka

:kp

Liton looks so defeated. Feel really bad for him. Can't be easy to captain this donkey herd.
They can never compete in T20. They just have to gloat about odd bilateral win where teams play B team C team. In a serious competition they will get pummelled almost all the time.

Tough to see Bangladesh in Super Fours now. Their NRR will take a hit because of this loss and them not punishing Hong Kong doesn't help either

And all this is if they beat Afghanistan

Equations now:

- If SL beat Afghanistan, BD-AFG game becomes a knockout game. NRR no longer remains a factor.

- If Afghanistan beat SL, BD have to win by a huge margin to have a superior NRR. So, BD need SL to beat Afghanistan ideally.

I agree, given how they turn up for sacrifice against half decent teams, it’ll be very apt. At least they’re of utility for the other team.

New crop of BD players didn’t develop as well as their talent, still got time but with hardly any remarkable domestic setup it would be tough for them to be in top3 in Asia.

Bat first

Score 160, it’s over for AFG

Bowl first, get Atal and Zadran early, they won’t even cross 140

Yes. Let's see what happens.

I think they should bat first if they win the toss. Harder to chase against Afghanistani spinners.

Bangladesh currently the odd one out

Meaning the only recognised team who have lost their first real test.

But don't worry Bangladesh we will join you tomorrow given how hopeless we are

Sri Lanka manage to step it up in the Asia Cup. They were nowhere near the favorites in 2022 either. Last year too they made the final. They looked good today.

I expected Sri Lanka to win but not this comprehensively
I hoped that I didn't had to see and say this but Bangladesh man has been poor for so many years in big games. It's not only disappointing but also getting frustrating as a Cricket fan.

They are not newbies or associate level team yet they behave like one in these big events.

And Pakistan just lost a series against this Bangladeshi team. What a joke of a team we are.
Was this you when Pakistan beat West Indies and Afghanistan in their home after that?

Bangladesh have flattened many teams at home. Even New Zealand recently lost to them. They have whitewashed teams in T20Is at home.

They are a force at home in those Dhaka and Mirpur pitches. But it's also one of the reasons why they get exposed away when they find different pitches.

Pitches in UAE so far closely resemble to pitches in Dhaka. They are slow, low and aid spinners.

Mishara Guides Sri Lanka to Opening Win Over Bangladesh

Sri Lanka began their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a confident six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Dubai, reaching the 140-run target with 32 balls to spare. Opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka restricted Bangladesh to 139 for 5 despite a strong sixth-wicket stand.

Bangladesh slipped to 11 for 3 before Jaker Ali (41* off 34) and Shamim Hossain (42* off 34) steadied the innings with a record partnership, helping their side post a respectable total.Wanindu Hasaranga led the bowling effort with 2 for 20, while early strikes from Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera set the tone.

In the chase, Pathum Nissanka anchored the top order with a brisk 50 from 34 balls, striking six fours and a six. The spotlight, however, belonged to Kamil Mishara, who followed his unbeaten knock in the previous match with a composed 46 not out from 32 deliveries, guiding Sri Lanka home and earning Player of the Match honours.

Sri Lanka finished on 140 for 4 in 14.4 overs, underlining their chasing strength and collecting two valuable points in Group B.

They may seem like it. But, no they do not.

Bangladesh pitches are more dry, slow and low in bounce compared to UAE. They turn more than Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

They deteriorate as the match progresses. Making it difficult for batters to get a hold on the surface's slow turn and spinners.

UAE pitches, specially Abu Dhabi and Dubai offers movement with the new ball under lights to pacers.

Dew has a much bigger role to play in matches. In the last half of the 2nd innings. It becomes difficult for spinners to grip the wet ball. Which is not the case usually in Bangladesh.

UAE pitches are more balanced. In fact I think they are one of the few pitches. Dubai and Abu Dhabi specially that offer everything to everyone and you usually see scores between 160 to 180 between two good teams.

Bangladesh are more spin friendly pitches because of the driness and slowness of the pitch. 140 becomes a winning total. There's no dew or not much when compared to UAE.

You’re talking about overall UAE pitches and comparison which I agree with but I’m talking about pitches we have seen so far. The pitches have been low and sluggish. Sharjah usually is good for batting, but we saw in Tri nations series final that 140 was winning total. Pitches overall have been different from normal UAE pitches.

But in Bangladesh spinners did not do anything. If anything BD spinners didn't do well in the series that pakistan lost. It was seamers. SHoriful islam and Taskin ran through Pakistan. THey played only 2 matches.

BD was very poor today. Jaker and Shamim gave the total some respectability. However, 140 was never going to be enough.

They had some good World Cups in ODI but they've pretty much always been rubbish in this format. Sri Lanka's regression is what's most disappointing for me.
