Sri Lanka (184/8) defeat Bangladesh (183/7) by 2 wickets and qualify for the Super 4 stage

Battle of the two worst commentators in the business.

To be a spinner and bowl a no-ball is just pathetic. But Ebadot is just as much to blame for this loss as Mahedi and the rest of the bowlers who bowled all those extras.

Ebadot was the main culprit.

4-0-51-3.

Also, he was cramping. Why didn't captain take him off? There were bowlers available.

It was an exciting game but let's be real here. The only reason Sri Lanka won was because Bangladesh were too inept and incompetent to win a match they should have easily won. Sri Lanka played some pathetic cricket from conceding 183 against this awful batting line-up to their batters always throwing their wicket away whenever they had momentum. They were simply lucky to escape with a win, nothing more.

They will need to radically change the way they play if they want to beat Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

Oh come on. Arnold is atrocious. But I doubt anyone can seriously compete with Athar, whose voice literally dropped to a murmur in the last over.

What an entertainment. This Asia Cup is surely one the best Asia Cup i have ever watched. Baring Hongkong match all other sides playing competitive cricket. Due to the emergence of Afghanistan Asia Cup have become more entertaining than before. Great format this time

BD should've won both games (AFG and SL). But, they botched it up in the end both times.

Pacers are costing the team frequently.

Mushfiqur and Shakib look like they will kill the bowler for any mistake rather than trying to calm their nerves under pressure. Pretty much sums up why they lose their bit under pressure so many times.

IPL is boring for non-Indians.

Why would I care if Mumbai or Delhi is winning?

For some of them only India matters and they think every tournament should revolve around India. They give no respect to other teams and what their fans want. :inti

A helluva roller coaster ride, two imperct team produciing a perfect thriller. Throughly enjoyed well played both teams

Well said.

Even many Indians do not like IPL.

International cricket trumps T20 leagues.

Makes me laugh when certain Indian posters pretend to act like they are above the Asia Cup.

Yeah tell that to the millions of people in your country who drive more viewership numbers for the first ball of an India Pakistan match than an average IPL match lmao.

Shakib can't be blamed. But having said why did they come to a situation where Mehdi had to bowl the last over. This is very similar to Pakistan used spinner in 20th over.

He is the most confused poster on this forum. He keeps changing his stance. The other day he was jumping in joy because of Pandya's inning in the same tournament he is making fun of now. :91: :inti

Good point. I was actually thinking about this during 16th over.

He didn't rotate the bowlers properly. Should've bowled the spinners out earlier.

one more thing, Pakistan will have to relook at the team combination, 4 paceres are must in Dubai

It's actually worse because he saved two overs for the spinner at the death.

That was a tactical failure from them. I think once they got rid of 3 or 4 wickets they took the foot of the gas. That killer partnership developed during that phase. It made the target more manageable for late order players.

I think that what made the match such a thrilling affair was the fact that neither of the teams were professional and ruthless enough to take their chances to close the game. It might've not gone all the way down to the last over had it not been these two teams playing. Either way, I'm most pleased for Sri Lanka. It's good for the game that they've made it through to the next round. Enough of Bangladesh for me at a personal level.

Not against Hong Kong

They are much much better against pace in comparison to spin where they seem clueless

The "best" bowler of the match ended up conceding 51 runs in the match. Has this ever happened before in a T20I match?

I think at the end of the day though, (regardless of how you choose to look at it) you can't help but feel that Bangladesh's incompetent attack simply wasn't good enough to defend this target.

As Shanaka said, they only have two world-class bowlers in their attack. That amounts to 8 overs. What you have left after that is just a garbage one dimensional spin attack that can only be threatening on those doctored Bangladeshi pitches, and a bunch of rubbish pacers with no understanding of line and length or how to bowl with a brain.

I think Ebadot must have conceded 35 runs in his last two overs

Sri Lanka chased down a target of 184 with four balls and two wickets to spare to qualify to the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai.

In a game that swung back and forth, Sri Lanka held their nerve under pressure to sneak in a two-wicket win and qualify to the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2022.

Chasing 184, Sri Lanka started off well, but soon found themselves in trouble at 77/4 in the ninth over. Kusal Mendis, helped by a series of let-offs, compiled a half-century, and Dasun Shanaka added momentum to the innings to take Sri Lanka close.

However, Bangladesh struck again in quick succession to come out on top.

At 158/7 in the 18th over, Sri Lanka's hopes appeared done and dusted, but helped by a boundary off a no-ball in the penultimate over, Sri Lanka managed 17 runs off Ebadot Hossain's over to turn the game on its head.

Asitha Fernando, on debut, hit 10 off three balls, including a crucial four off the second ball in the final over to help Sri Lanka complete their second-highest run chase in T20Is.

It was also the highest-ever successful run chase in UAE in T20Is, beating Afghanistan's run chase of 180 against UAE in 2016.

Across social media BD fans seem to be saying tough luck, I don't understand how is it tough luck, some ridiculous cricket is what it was.

T20 captain Shakib al Hasan blamed death over bowling for Bangladesh’s group stage exit from the Asia Cup.

The Tigers lost both their matches against Afghanistan and Sri Lanka and on each occasion, the opposition sealed the deal in the death overs owing to ineffective Bangladesh bowling.

“Death bowling is something we are looking to improve and that has cost us the game. The last two overs they were eight down and needed to get 17-18 runs and they got home with a lot of balls to spare. We are not bowling well in the death,” said Shakib in the presentation ceremony following their two-wicket loss against India in Dubai Thursday.

“We should give lot of credit to Sri Lanka, the way they held their nerves. We wanted to pick wickets, and saw the fast bowlers were picking wickets. There was pressure on Sri Lanka. Whenever the bowlers bowl, they need to execute their plans.

“If you look at the last six months, we were not competitive but we were very competitive this time. We need to work in a lot of areas before the T20 World Cup in Australia.”

The Tigers will now lick their wounds before turning attention to the T20 tri-series against hosts New Zealand and Pakistan next month.

More than skills it looked like this game was battle of error counts and yucky nerves game.

Musfhiq has a lot to answer

Second failure with the bat

Dropped Mendis early on who scored a 50

Also didn’t insist on the review of a blatant caught behind

Doesnt matter anyway, who won. They’ll get knocked out next round.

Shakibs captaincy was pathetic. Bowled two himself in PP, Sheikh Mahedi wasnt used much first 8, didn’t use bowlers well. He did this before, as captain always bowls whenever he wants !

Mushfiq has been a brilliant servant of BD cricket in ODI n Test, BD cricket legend. But for the love of God, leave T20i asap. He isn’t required at all, done his part, not needed by 5years no, simple as that. Hanging on like some deprived low life **** trying to earn extra p’s wasting a spot in the t20 side! Bcb needs to start proper refresh. No more sebjors, even Shakib, Mahmudullah - goodbye after next T20 WC.

Sri Lanka have been annoyed with Bangladesh since 2018 only when BD fans did Naagin dance after beating them. Since then, all Sri Lanka cares is to not lose vs BD. :inti

I feel bad for BD but to be honest they only have themselves to blame. A team that can beat NZ in a test match in Nz and win an ODI series in SA is clearly good enough at this level.

But BD need to keep executing the basics ruthlessly and not cave in to pressure/excitement every single time. Even teams like India are sometimes guilty of this but for BD this happens every single time

The Bangladesh captain addressed mistakes his team made which cost them the must-win Asia Cup clash against Sri Lanka on Thursday.

Bangladesh failed to qualify for the Super Four phase of the Asia Cup after Sri Lanka sealed a last-over thriller, winning the contest by two wickets by recording the highest successful run chase in the UAE.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan expressed disappointment over Bangladesh's inability to perform under pressure as they gave away extra runs and extra chances to Sri Lanka – eight wides and four no-balls.

Sri Lanka's highest run-getter of the match Kusal Mendis, who smashed a fiery 37-ball 60, was given multiple lifelines, first, when he was dropped by wicket-keeper Mushfiqur Rahim when he was on two off Taskin Ahmed, and again when Mahedi Hasan had induced a faint outside edge in the seventh over, but the spinner had overstepped.

"No captain wants a no-ball and a spinner bowling a no-ball is a crime," said Shakib after the match. "We bowled lot of no-balls and wide balls and that is not disciplined bowling. These are pressure games and we need to learn a lot from here and move forward," he added.

Shakib pointed out the areas Bangladesh need to improve, especially performance in the death overs.

"The turning point could be when our batsmen got out (at crucial moments) and spinners bowling a no-ball is a crime. It proved how we can break (down) in a pressure situation.

"We need to improve on that skill-wise but we break whenever there is pressure and lose the game. We need to improve a lot in the death overs," he admitted.

The Bangladesh captain said that in the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup in Australia, their strategy would be to lead with a pace-heavy attack.

"On this kind of a wicket, 12 overs need to be bowled by pace bowlers and in most cases, you would expect that. Who can deliver will stay and (those) who are unable won't be there," he said.

"We have seen four bowlers in two matches and we hope that we would find four or five such pacers who can bowl 12 to 14 for us, because in Australia we need to depend on the pacers."
