Sri Lanka [201] defeat Afghanistan [152] by 34 runs (D/L method) in group stage of 2019 World Cup

This kid Zazai reminds me of Sharjeel - not much foot movement, but he has POWER and brilliant in hitting trough the line. Great start by AFGs.
If he is a kid then what am I ?? I am 28 bu date of birth?lol.

MMHS Salam PP Universal Boss, what’s your prediction for tomorrow?

I wish India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh all defeat this arrogant Afghan team.

Kiwis to win:( Keep expectations low. We have to make sure that NRR doesn't suffer much. If Mash wins the toss, we should chase.

Other game could be boring - if somehow IND loses, I am sure it'll be a crashing loss, or they'll win comfortably.

Their players are way too arrogant and ungrateful like Karzai de Puppet.
But most of the Afghan people are good.

My ex gf was Afghani, unfortunately her parents didn’t approve of me as I am a Sunni and they are Shiahs, also they think Afghans are superior race than us hence I have decided to lead the life of Salman Khan :inzi

I have a soft corner for the team :butt

wait this makes no sense... :43:

Allow me to explain.

Srilanka were 180-8 after 32 overs considering 50 overs

Let's be honest, Lanka weren't expected to bat more than 4/5 overs and would score 20 more. So even though the number of overs were reduced for Lanka it would not matter.

But as for Afghanistan they came to bat considering 41 overs.

Now if Lanka had lost 3/4 wickets they would actually have their score increased.

Thanks brother, you were spot on about this match too. An asset to PP :imran

The cockiness of Afg got into their head go our Lankan brothers

Afghans collapsing on this green mamba, England would struggle to reach 150 here. Kusal Perera's innings looks much better in hindsight

Unfortunately for ypu, PP already has a bhaijaan in FC, you can be Sohail khan instead :)))

Worst bowling attack against worst batting line-up in play, not the best quality of cricket (to put it kindly).

One of the worst decline in modern day cricket due to the unbalanced batting context is that, most teams have absolutely no clue of what is a good total for a wicket. Every team starts with a 350 mindset and often it results in to one sided game - the day slog swing connects, it's 100+ margin or a chase inside 40 overs.

Today, I saw the wicket and my first impression was - it's a 50 overs wicket. SRL was given a wonderful opportunity to bury AFGs with a target of 270+ with that start, but they targeted 333+ and their batting plan was absolute shambolic - even after 5 down, Tisera with all that experience got run out to an impossible single, Udana slogged to be castled and finally Perera at 75 got out reverse sweeping when RR was still 6+!!!!!!! Even playing out 50 overs for 225 would have been enough for them, which was possible till Perera's dismissal.

I think, now the game is in balance - AFGs need to bat out 41 overs & they'll win it.

Afghanistan don't have enough experience of this type of conditions against this level of skills of Pacers.

So happy that SL is ripping up this mediocre and arrogant side.

Hard to motivate yourself in a team of duds and when you see the team is going nowhere
and everyone is playing aimlessly

That’s why I always give credit to Lara for maintaining his standards when he was stuck in a sea of mediocrity for so many years

Years? Even the 2003-2007 years of West Indies cricket were much better than what Lanka are going through right now . They won CT in 2004 and made the final in 2006 and then atleast qualified for super 8 in 2007 world cup. Windies ODI team still had Gayle, Bravo , Samuels, Sarwan, Collymore, Jerome Taylor etc. That side was only mediocre compared to the era of Ambrose, Walsh etc.

These balls don't swing after few overs and seem dies out too quickly. SRL doesn't have any spinner which is a blunder - on this type of wicket, spinners skid faster than batsmen predicts and little turn, it's tougher than facing medium pacer - I can tell on this wicket, Shakib will kill few teams if he gets his drift working.

I this, if AFG's reach 107/5 after 25, they'll chase 80 in 16 overs. Malinga's last few overs will be crucial.

Root apparently mentioned somewhere yesterday that the balls they are using in WC have more pronounced seam. I don't know where or I misheard.

We are playing England in Cardiff I think, hope we put up a decent fight. Allah Malik

If it's a traditional slow, dry Cardiff pitch then Bangladesh have a chance. However we've seen greentops in Cardiff in this WC so far.

Of course was the scene of that famous 2005 win vs Australia.

The most crucial period is coming - if AFG's resist a wicket after drinks break, they are my favorites.

Then we need a pick an Ashraful type player to play an Eid innings. Sabbir is the man

Last time a team played with 5 seamers in wc was probably WI in 99 Ambrose Walsh Dillon King & Rose
And Aus in a couple of games Mcgrath Fleming Dale Reiffel Gillespie :13:

How is Malinga getting hit by mediocre batsmen? SL should not mess this one up.

Those Eid days are gone with Ashfool/Aftab type of players. We have much better consistent core players now. We dont need to beat Eng. Our aim should be to beat NZ. If we beat NZ, I am pretty sure we will have all but secured semi spot.

But it's Pradeep who gets the skipper. Big blow to Afghans.

Unlucky decision. That could have been not out!

It’s CT 2017 all over again. This time Afghanistan

Bowled him !

This reminds me of our tense game vs Zimbabwe in 2015 WC when we were struggling badly but ground out a much needed win.

Ooh good ball from Pradeep. This has been an excellent over.

Afghans seem more comfortable defending a total than chasing. Runs have ground to a halt.

It's all down to Najibullah right now and his batting partner can't run. Watch that RRR start to spiral out of control for Afghanistan...couldn't have happened to a nicer team!

Will go down to wire it seems. A specialist spinner would have wrapped the game for Sri Lanka.

Man it feels like Pakistan have been involved in many similar games, chasing or defending a low score.

Must be unbearably tense if you're an Afghan or Sri Lankan fan.

NZ will be too hard this time, they are practicing well to tackle Shakib. I just hope we play out 50 overs tomorrow. Don’t want to spoil our Eid, better to keep expectations low. :odoyo

This and the last couple of matches have been fabulous entertainment. There were hardly any games going to wire in 2015 WC.

Oh my god Sri Lanka where is the game awareness ? Of all the ways to concede a no ball !
